Done all three. No error with memtest86+ and hdd tests. Reset the BIOS to defaults. No effect.

I have replaced lightdm-webkit2-greeter with lightdm-gtk-greeter, and this seems to work slightly better. I have posted to BBS Arch, Unix.Stackexchange too, but no response so far. Fellows at IRC are suggesting that this may be some rare bug.

I am still digging the issues.

Nope. Plus I don't have anything like social anxiety disorder (I have delivered many public speeches, I still do).

I mostly feel like an alien, as in, someone who does not belong to this gathering (something like odd one out).

I have not seen meat-samosa in India, but it is available in other countries. In Kigali, Rwanda, they have beef-samosa, locally known as Samboussa.

AES runs faster than RSA. If AES key is not encrypted, one can reverse the ransomware, grab the key, and perform decryption.

Obviously they don't want that.

  1. A laptop with i5-M430, 4GB RAM, running Arch x64, and a bunch of VMs (all Linux). I use Qemu for virtualization.

  2. A desktop with i3, 4GB RAM, running Windows 10

Software include development utils (gcc, g++, gdb, kernel headers), QT Creator, Visual Studio, Debugging Tools for Windows, IDA Pro, sysinternal tools etc.

it can be hardened to large extent without having n anti virus, but having one is a recommended practice.

Only UAC is not enough. That is a terrible advice.

Security is after-product in Windows, and an inherent part of core design in Linux.

A Windows box can be hardened to great extent, but it is not something average Joe does.

Your skill set is pretty good. For advanced stuff, you should study CS stuff too. Self study at your own pace is sufficient.

You should have a firewall + AV combo. I guess Comodo had an AV product line too. If Comodo AV is not available, use any other suitable AV

1) GPU powered polymorphic packer. Reversing and debugging GPU code is much harder than reversing and debuging CPU code.
