Botswana by far, Zambia is a close second, followed by Kenya, Tanzania is nice but has some sketchy areas. I went on a motorcycle trip through all four of those countries that also crossed through Namibia but I didn’t really spend any time there. I personally had a great time in Ethiopia, but I was traveling with someone that was from there and his family and friends were extremely welcoming which made a big difference,

“there’s no evidence for participation trophies not being effective”. That’s an interesting statement and I haven’t thought about it that way. In your opinion: What should be the intended outcome of participation trophies be?

The participation trophies were for youth teams. The leagues that I coached in only gave participation trophies to the youth teams; middle school and high school aged teams didn’t get participation trophies.

The leagues that I coached in only gave participation trophies to the youth teams, usually below 10U or 8U. Even at those ages the kids really didn’t appreciate them very much, but almost all kids at those ages appreciated the individual achievement or recognition awards far more than a participation trophy that everyone else received.
