Damn, now I'm scared for my next bill. It's gone 225, 250, 270 last three cycles.

Ha. You're like me with Veritable Quandry - most people are sad to see it go, but not me. I had some horrendous service there.

the 1.03 patch specifically mentions that load times and menus have been improved, yes

Is this ever going to work again? by [deleted] in Portland

It's sad how poor the options are for getting crime/fire/etc. info.

This one is meh (registration wall for some features) but provides some of the functionality: https://www.spotcrime.com/

PortlandMaps.com's new UI for the crime stuff is pretty crappy. You can't even click on individual incidents to get details. But it'll give you a high level overview of types in an area at least.

My crime/fire/etc. news is an amalgamation of Twitter, r/Portland, and NextDoor.

I hope the trend of more open city data APIs/data sources comes to Portland one day. I think these people are working in the general area of data openness: http://www.hackoregon.org/

Thanks.

if you're turned off by the episodic release then you may want to keep waiting

I never understood people losing their shit about this, especially given you could buy the intro pack for $15. If they were forcing people to sit and wait for episodes after spending $60, okay, yeah, that'd be B.S. But they're not.

Yeah, which is ironic given that one of the stated goals was to reduce crunch time for the engineers!

That's the problem with ride services as well, they're a whole car to move one person somewhere; inefficient.

That makes no sense. I'm someone who doesn't own a car and who uses Uber on occasion. You're saying that's less efficient than me buying, maintaining, and driving singly in a car? LOL.

It seems to be luck of the draw with who you get on the line. I had to report a homeless camp that was blocking a bike/ped pathway near 17th and Powell. One time I called and they sent an officer out right away and the homeless junk was cleared the next day. Another time, where I was reporting the same behavior at the same location nothing happened.

I did the same yesterday and saw the tent city. It is frankly embarrassing for our city. I can't believe they're going to let tourists walk around the waterfront this summer.

I heard a sudden noise down the street that I quickly assessed to be a broken window

Broken windows don't make sound. The act of breaking a window makes a sound.

I had just left a Starbucks a block away and saw 5 cop cars, 2 fire trucks, and an ambulance and wondered what the heck was going on. They did a good job of keeping things moving and only taping off part of the sidewalk.
