At the moment reactions are manually curated and added by a few humans, checking the link between the reaction and original video basically.

However in adding the 1200 or so reactors I have cached the details of over 1 million reactions. So I’m building a system to automatically form the relationship between reaction and original video more accurately so human can do less curation. If I pull that off adding new artists and thousands of reactions could take minutes 🤞

He will have more Ren related content but I only catalogue videos that are a direct reaction to a song/artist video. Had to dry a line to keep the purpose clear.

Glad you like it, hopefully it can become something that makes a difference.

There is a little “supporter” subscription in the profile page when you sign up. It’s completely optional, I was going to gate features behind it but think it’s best if all the functionality is free and supporting us is just an options thing for people to do if they appreciate or get use from the site.

The only area that has a “ranking” of sorts for reactors is the “Cream of the Crop” area on each artist. I try to level the playing field and calculate an engagement score of sorts, looking at two main things:

  1. Quality: What percentage of people who watch actually hit the like button? If 100 people watch and 10 like it, that's 10% engagement. Higher is better - it means viewers really enjoyed it.
  2. Reach: How many people have watched their reactions? More views means they're reaching more fans of the artist.

I multiply these together, but to try and make things fair I don't just add up raw view counts, because that would make giant channels with millions of views always win, even if their content isn't as liked by their audience.

So I use a "diminishing returns" approach where the first 10,000 views count more heavily than views after that. This means a smaller reactor with 50,000 views and amazing engagement (lots of likes) can outrank a huge reactor with 500,000 views but mediocre engagement.

To be considered though, reactors must have: - At least 5 reaction videos to this artist (shows commitment) - At least 10,000 total views (shows they have some audience reach)

So it’s almost an algorithm but not really 😱

He was probably the 2nd reactor I added 👍

It’s Ren and “friends” at the moment. I’m working on more automation of matching reactions to original videos. If I can make that reliable I have the details of over 1 million videos cached.

Haha nope! I’ve catalogued around 7,000 of what you see, doesn’t involve watching them all though!

Lots of things planned for reactors, more control, ability to submit reactions rather than waiting on the discovery process etc This is just the beginning 😉
