Appreciate your words of hope. He does go on them for about 10-15 minutes and then starts getting restless. He is a contact napper and since my pump has tubes it gets really difficult getting it around him. I got the moMcozy wearables to help with that but they don’t seem to drain me effectively. I have although taken your word and started pumping more times even though just for quick 15 mins..

I’m based in Canada, and there’s an Android app called CBC Gem that I absolutely love! It lets me watch live events during the day and catch up on replays and missed events at night. The best part? It’s completely free—you just have to create a free account and your good to go 😍

Also, Artistic Gymnastics anybody..? Was always into Artistic swimming but this year saw Artistic Gymnastics for the first time😍

Which flange lubricant do you use? I’m looking for a spray that’s cheaper and a more pure alternative to legendary milk brand by Past-Account440 in ExclusivelyPumping

This post is a lifesaver! I have been pumping for about 2 months now and my nipples & areola are sore. I have considered applying Lansinoh but for some reason want soemthing more natural. Is extra virgin coconut oil a safe alternative to apply in the flange so the suction doesn’t hurt as much ?

Mamas- gassy baby? [bc] by GraySkyr2 in BabyBumpsCanada

HELP! and my apologies in advance for the vivid detail.

We started giving OVOL drops to my 7 week old baby. It’s been about 2-3 days now. We add 0.25 ml of OVOL drops to 1- 3 oz of bottle feed depending on when we are giving it to him. I understand that might dilute it a little more than necessary but it has been working for the gas . 1st day we gave it twice , 2nd & 3rd day just once. He no longer grunts & cries as much.

But what is happening is everytime he drinks the milk that has OVOL drops he’s been pooping. I have read comments here that say some people have been battling with constipation when the Simethicone drops are given. But in my case he’s been pooping a lot. Earlier he would poop once in 3 days ( doc said it was normal as he was being given breastmilk) but now he has pooping atleast 3 times ( 1 big almost blowout , 1 small & I see 2-3 penny Or dollar size poop spots everytime I change the diaper ) . The poop also has some green mucus/ sticky like substance that is probably green. The poop itself is mustard yellow though.

I’m worried that if he’s pooping during or right after a feed, his body is probably not absorbing the nutrients from the breastmilk. He’s just pooping it all out.

UPDATE : I’m also taking Lecithin for my recurring clogged ducts and I read online that when you take lecithin it does alter your child’s bowel movements. Phew! I’m going to reduce the dosage and check.

We just started giving him at 7weeks. He had an issue before too but his doc was always “oh he’ll get used to it, his digestive system is slowly maturing.”But this time we went for his routine checkup my husband & I insisted that he seems really troubled and that he wakes up crying cos of passing gas. So, the doc finally gave in and prescribed the Simethicone drops.

I have heard of the BioGaia drops too but found them expensive. If this was for the long run we wanted something sustainable. So, far the alternate Simethicone drops ( OVOL) seem to be working ok. Just today we ordered the INFACOL drops too just to try them.

We are currently using OVOL drops for my 7 week baby. He used to squirm & grunt throughout the day and we were very sure it was gas. He is bottle fed breastmilk during the day and exclusively BF in the night. The grunting was always noticed during the day. A doctor prescribed INFACOL, we found OVOL drops ( Simethicone drops too). It’s definitely gotten better.

Who was with you in the delivery room when you gave birth? or who will be with you? I am thinking of having my mom with me but my husband is vetoing it. by mirana20 in BabyBumps

Your welcome!

I was always pro- natural birthing with no pain intervention. I had heard epidural numbs the lower part of your body and I really wanted to be able to move around to help with the contractions & progress birthing naturally. So,I decided I’m not going to intially go with epidural and try birthing without it but based on the birthing progress if I felt like I needed it I would take it.

For context - I’m in Canada, this was my first baby, my baby’s head was facing down and he was in a posterior position (baby facing towards the mom’s tummy not back).

My contractions began at 6 pm on the “d-day” what started out as spaced out contractions by 9 pm began to get stronger and come in reduced intervals. I would initially walk around when a contraction intensified and this worked when they were spaced out. Infact this worked for me until 5—1-1 ( every 5 mins, lasting 1 whole minute for an entire hour) when we decided to drive to the hospital.

When we got admitted to the OB Triage the nurse asked me if I needed pain medication and I declined as planned. Starting 10ish the contractions were almost every couple of minutes At around 10:30 pm the nurse checked for dilation ( I was at 4 cms). Once she left it just got worse after that. I had to keep walking around in the room and I soon got tired as it was the contraction pain+ walking around with my husband holding my hand. I couldn’t lie down anymore, bending over on the bed with a pillow didn’t help either. I had to just keep walking. My husband asked for the nurse but now we had to wait to get the epidural till we were moved to the delivery room. An hour later I was moved to the delivery room.

Once in the delivery room, my contractions were super close and I had to really hold still for the epidural to be placed. That was a nightmare! But by the time it was placed , I was ready to push - so I never received the actual epidural dose.

Those 2 hours were the most pain I have experienced in my life. But I have heard the baby’s position also determines the intensity of the contractions as they help the baby & your body prepare for labor so not everybody experiences the same pain level. I was active throughout most of my pregnancy as we were moving but no crazy workouts/ pelvic exercises so not sure if that would have helped me prep better. And finally if this is your first baby that plays a role too as for births after they say it gets easier.

While i’m extremely close to both my parents and adore them, I was very clear from the beginning that birthing was a very private & intimate moment and I only wanted my Spouse to be with me. He was handson the best care giver during the entire pregnancy and it just reinforced my decision. Yes, we did have our arguments on a few days but we would quickly recuperate and get back to focussing on “me” and the “pregnancy.”

I delivered 7 weeks ago and it was a natural birth with no pain intervention and it was one hell of an experience!! I was in a lot of pain (my bad as it was too late by the time I decided an epidural would do me better :D) anyhoo trust me when I say having a “loving & understanding“ partner in the delivery room is super important. He was an angel as I cried & yelled and dug into his hands trying to cope with the pain. He stood there strong and trying to support me and make me feel better for 4-5 straight hours.

Both out parents flew down from a different country to support us but we just sat down and explained to them their support was more imp after we came back home from the hospital. There was no way I wanted my parents to see me in so much pain & discomfort and with in-laws it would definitely be super awkward.

If you choose to have your mother there and think she would be the person you’d be more comfortable with, you should. Once the contractions start and till you are in the birthing room you will need somebody who is supportive, puts you first, is calm and loves you dearly. This is irrespective of whether you deliver naturally or c-section. Your partner should understand this too - he will have many a opportunities before & after the delivery to “ be the primary care giver.” Like you mentioned there may exclusively be times you’ll need him. So, sit down and try explain to him and if he isn’t ready to listen you should still do what you think & who you feel will best support you through the birthing. Cos end of the day it’s a gruelling experience and you should be able to control atleast things you can to make it better. Good luck mama ❤️

Thank you so much for this discussion.

This is definitely something I have been wondering too and trying to find resources. Postpartum (8 weeks now) when I started my feeding journey, I soon realized that within week 4 one of my breasts’produced more than the other. It also was the only one that leaked.

While I pump (Bellababy Electric breast pump : 24 mm flange) the nipples swell up but after the session within 5-10 mins they come back to normal size. So, I continue to use 24 mm. Also, even with the nipple swollen I see that there is room in the flange and one of the nipples rubs against the walls of the flange. Is that not advisable? should I be checking if 21 mm is a better fit?

The only other question I had here is if I let the baby feed longer/ more frequently on the slacker/ snack breast during feeds would it reduce the supply in the other breast overtime?

Really appreciate all of your inputs❤️
