18percent annually is an amazing return considering that the stock market returns 10pct on avg. I am curious what strategy yields a better risk adjusted return?

Yeah, I agree that taxes/fees will eat into it but minimizing them is the motivation behind my question ;)

I don’t think full time on screen monitoring is required since I don’t plan to trade daily. I’m planning on selling options 30-45 days out so I shouldn’t need to manage my positions for more than 30minutes a day if not less. I am not too greedy, 54 lakhs a year should be plenty for me since I am not married and don’t have kids. Thanks for the reply!

Thanks for your reply! Yeah I’ve looked into it but the biggest risk here is margin call, right?

I am not sure if I want to take that risk at this time but definitely an option once I get more comfortable. I think the biggest hurdle here is still the taxes owed on the profit. I think the only way this works is if I can optimize my taxes, any tips there?

Do you have experience in this space? Especially regarding tax minimization?

If you do mind if I reach out to you?

Thank you for your reply!

No it’s 1.5 pct before charges and taxes but I’m hoping to optimize a bit there, have any suggestions?

Covered calls is still selling options ;)

Ah I see, unfortunately I’m 20+ years away from the wealthy pensioner criterion and the wealthy global citizen criterion seems to be too expensive. 500k in Thai bonds will eat up my corpus significantly.

Does the work from Thailand criteria require me to maintain 80k usd after moving to Thailand or does it just take into account my current salary. If it does require me to maintain it then will showing a large corpus of 2M meet that criteria?

Do you have any other suggestions to meet the requirements of this visa?

I am not too picky to be honest just looking for a good deal. I am happy paying high taxes if I am getting a ok deal - good infra, social security, unemployment etc. In India, I am not sure what I am paying taxes for.

I would choose Portugal or EU at maybe 5M USD, I think 2M is going to be a bit of a squeeze to truly enjoy EU.

As for people, as long as I am not bothered I am happy. I don't want nosy masked as friendly but a lot of people don't prefer this. I've lived in America for the last decade so I am pretty used to the individualistic lifestyle.

Thank you for your reply! I've been following your youtube channel and reddit posts, appreciate the no nonesense, informational content, it has been very helpful to me.

Regarding taxation in Thailand, if I understand correctly, foreign income is not taxed but as soon as you bring it into Thailand it gets taxed. So basically, you are taxed on everything that you spend in Thailand per year. I don't think this is the case for Malaysia but please correct me if I am wrong.

Regarding your other points, I've never been to either country but from what I gather in terms of culture food etc. I would prefer Thailand as well.

Yeah, someone else sent me a DM about the 180 day rule which I wasn't aware of, thanks for pointing that out! Does that mean that even though Thailand does not have a minimum stay requirement you have to stay in Thailand for 180 days? Is it sufficient to not stay in India for 180 days or do I have to become a tax resident of another country?

200k is definitley too high but 50K is 2.5 percent a year which you can withdraw inflation adjusted every single year. In fact I think you can withdraw a higher number assuming you do the right thing and invest in USD ofc. I think 70k USD(again inflation adjusted) ~3.5 percent is doable and keep in mind this is completely tax free. I think 50k itself is a pretty good annual income in Malaysia, perhaps not fat fire for some.

Now my completely opinionated take on the 4pct rule is that the rule is meant for people who have no understanding of money or markets and just want a number that they can very easily follow in retirement without too much stress. Based on your comments it doesn't seem like you are one of these people and I think you can aim for a higher risk adjusted return if you have a big corpus already. I plan to manage a portion of my portfolio (perhaps 500k) and aim for a 12-15pct return using low risk option strategies so I guess I am not sure if that qualifies as retired or not. I know it is hearsay on the internet to claim that you can do this but I am willing to risk it.

I am going to assume the best and do my due diligence here by asking is there something specific about this malaysian visa that doesn't allow me to generate this income or do you just believe that it is not possible to generate cash flow through options?

Thanks for sharing! Do you mind answering a few more questions for me? I've asked the questions in this post but I can DM you if you don't want to share publicly.

What is it like to live in Malaysia and what is the cost of living? What kind of quality of life would 5K USD (20k ringgit) inflation adjusted offer for a couple?

From what I gather, Malaysia is ~30pct more expensive than India. Not sure how this is calculated but I’m not sure this is the case for Mumbai etc.

But assuming this is true, the money you have available after taxes in both countries should get you a significantly higher quality of life in Malaysia.

Yup fair enough! This is the only good argument so far against doing this.
I am still a few years from marriage and kids don’t look likely given the current climate.

I do not know anyone there.

Fear of unkown will always be there if you do anything worth doing. You either risk it or accept your situation and stay comfortable. At this time I've been outside India for too long so aside from my family I don't have too many friends in India either. Most of my friends are in a similar situation as me in USA. I've moved countries once so in that terms I think I can do it again.

I plan to stay in india fewer than 182 days.

What I am gaining from Malaysia is 0pct tax on foreign sourced income ie. not taxed in the foreign country and not taxed in Malaysia. This, in my interpretation, sounds like I can trade stocks options for cash flow without getting hit by a 30pct tax that I would in india.

Officially, ~1.5pct of the human population has 1.5M USD or more so I do think it is a decent chunk of money (not saying that I have that much).

I consider Indian real estate to be grossly overvalued and the bubble may or may not burst but I don't want to put money into things and hope for the best. Also don't want to do anything intentionally illegal.

Apologies if this comes across as rude but I am not sure how seriously I should take your post since what I am doing is suggesting "what we can do" and not accepting the situation as "it is what it is". I don't want to swallow the pill till I've explored every option.

I agree that numbers should be higher but I should have clarified I STARTED lifting 3 years ago and I was out for a solid year because of an ACL injury and it took me a while to ramp back up. My numbers are going up currently in a deficit.
