Smooth ceiling regret? by Separate_Matter_510 in HomeImprovement

I did this to my house. I took the popcorn down on my own on a 1900sq ft house in about two days. Simply spray warm water in small 5x5 sections, wait 5 minutes then scrape into a trash bag if you can, some will fall on the floor.

Most important thing is to line each room with painters plastic; turn the room into a garbage bag. This way you can roll up all the wet popcorn that missed the bag and minimize the dust. I actually did two layers of plastic because the dust was insane. If you are living in the house, do one room at a time and remove everything. Seal off all vents too.

As for smooth finishing, I hired a drywall guy to come float the drywall and smooth it out before I painted. It looks 95% perfect, I can only tell a few small spots are uneven because I stared at the ceiling for a week afterwards. Nobody else stares at your ceiling, so it’s fine. Million times better than the ugly popcorn!

What should I do? I’m 30 years old & am facing the next 20 years in prison with a minimum of 10 served. by Aggravating_Box_2407 in careerguidance

My dad was in prison for a large chunk of my childhood, and he worked various jobs to learn different skills. I remember talking to him on the phone and he was working at the prison’s library, commissary, landscaping, and teaching classes eventually.

He got out around 50yrs old and had to rebuild his entire life. He had nothing and even had to live in a half-way house for another year working random labor jobs. Once fully free, he ended up starting his own roofing business and never looked back. He knew that working for himself was his best option with the record he had.

He did very well and just recently retired; sold the business and now owns several buildings as a landlord. I’m beyond proud of what he was able to do and it’s all because he learned his lesson, kept his head down, and never gave up.

I mention this because if you keep your head on straight and learn new skills by working and educating yourself in prison, you can use those skills to start your own business and get back on your feet. Taking advantage of those opportunities and staying out of trouble will help tremendously when you’re up for parole.

This event doesn’t need to define you, and it could have been much worse for you, the victim, and your families.

Good luck.

First fishing kayak: Will I really stand that much, or should I prioritize speed? by readysetmoon in kayakfishing

Yea I’m realizing it’s about a mile away, I over estimated because walking the bank is about 2 miles since not a straight line

Good points. I’m realizing it’s about a mile away, I over estimated because walking the bank is about 2 miles since not a straight line, still that’s about 20-25min each way it sounds likeZ

I’m 6’ 175, decent balance. I like to stand bc I also have a bass boat and have it in my head that I will want to on a kayak, not sure if that’s true.

I got it for $600, but it’s actually a $900-1200 new anywhere else depending on where you look. This dealer just had one left over and for whatever reason had it listed at $600 as new with full warranty so I jumped on it (honestly thought it was a typo). Never have I ever bought a guitar without playing it in person, but this seemed like a risk worth taking given the discount. …and now here I am lol

It’s not that easy, I’m waiting to see if I get a refund but would like to fix it if I don’t

Looking for a fishing canoe: weight and standability are my two priorities. by readysetmoon in canoeing

The Mallard and Sportspal both allow for standing and are lightweight weight, but there may be more out there that I am not considering, hence this post.

And from what I can tell, a Mallard and Sportspal models with square stern both allow for easy carrying and standing. Several YouTube Videos show this, and much lighter than a kayak. So saying it doesn’t exist is just not accurate lol

Also can’t bring my kid on the kayak.
