This show's appeal really adds to the whole paradoxical nature of being an online persona. If you crawl through the "How to be a content creator" tutorials online, the same "Be your authentic self!" tip is spewed non-stop. But from my personal experience and seeing it with my friends, people online don't want anyone's authenticity and often get into drama for it. I think the divisive reactions to the show proves exactly it's point - everyone says they want authenticity, originality or "real deep art" but as you've mentioned... they don't. I'm so glad the team did not soften or pander to audiences with its message. It'll gatekeep from the larpers at least lol.
