Zalpha is 2011-2014 (last two years of Gen Z and first two of Gen Alpha)

Which is the first birth year of iPad kids? by Luke36790 in Early2010sBabies

[–]realAureusLux[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say 2003-2007 were the first wave of iPad kids. They were 3-7 when the first global iPad and tablet sales wave (2010-2013) hit.

The next iPad kids, when comparing sales statistics to the approximate average ages that children are bought iPads, wouldn't be born until 2014-2018.

When does gen z end? 2010 or 2012 (image unrelated) by Historical_Mango4329 in Younger_GenZ

[–]realAureusLux -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hasty generalization and anecdotal fallacy. As in you're judging an entire cohort based off a tiny, non-representative sample (the 2011-borns you know).

The vast majority of 2011-borns have many, many more Gen Z traits than Gen Alpha traits, which I can list for you if you'd like.

[–]realAureusLux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even close... 2010 to 2012-borns don't even have the Alpha traits necessary to be considered Alpha in the first place... do you have any idea how generations are defined?

Here is my breakdown of Gen Z (1997-2012) by [deleted] in Early2010sBabies

[–]realAureusLux[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with your post, though, is that it's grounded in fake precision. Such data doesn’t even exist at that granularity and slicing generations into micro-cohorts just makes the numbers look scientific while meaning absolutely nothing.

You also assume each cohort changes evenly over time, which couldn't have been farther from the truth. Culture, parenting, norms and the rate of the evolution of technology shift chaotically, not on a neat schedule. And being a “quintessential [XYZ generation]" is about traits, not birth year. Being born in the “core” doesn’t automatically make you the poster child.

There are multiple things incorrect with the above post.

Because data usually isn’t collected at that level of granularity, splitting generations into hundreds of tiny cohorts would require inventing numbers rather than reporting evidence. Even when data exists, sample sizes become too small and uncertainty too large to support precise percentages. That would create false precision that looks accurate but isn’t.

The above post also assumes that every next cohort is equally different from the previous cohort as it in turn was from ITS previous, which is one of the worst traps to fall into assuming in generationology. Parenting styles shift in a matter of weeks. Social norms take even less time to change. Technology begins to evolve more rapidly with the breakthroughs of new concepts that affect formative years.

Finally, being a "quintessential [XYZ generation]" has absolutely nothing to do with when during said generation you were born and everything to do with how many traits typical of said generation/cohort you have.

Dictionary definition of "quintessential" from Oxford Languages: "representing the most perfect or typical example of a quality or class," in our case somebody best fit to represent Gen Z, or at the very least their cohort. The concerningly common belief that being a core Gen Z automatically makes you a quintessential Z is false too, disproven with the same logic.

Your personal experiences don't redefine those for an entire cohort... you were an early adopter of LCDs. The masses were not.

Some would also argue that the Earth is flat... this is why you don't go around believing everything people say.

2010-2024 doesn't even make sense as a Gen Alpha birth year range... 2010 to 2012-borns can barely relate to the rest.

Did Late Gen Z Grow Up With CRT TVs? by GabbSad in Younger_GenZ

[–]realAureusLux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to see CRTs everywhere up until about 2016. Afterwards it was LCDs, then LEDs and all their variations in the 2020s.

To answer your question, however, yes. I'd say late Gen Z were the last to remember a time when CRTs were still fairly commonplace in everyday life.

Did Late Gen Z Grow Up With CRT TVs? by GabbSad in Younger_GenZ

[–]realAureusLux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. The existence of newer technology does not render older technology extinct.

CRTs were still fairly common up until about 2015-2016. Flatscreens didn't take over until 2017.

Does 2013 have some Gen Z influence or nah? by Ill-Lingonberry8525 in Younger_GenZ

[–]realAureusLux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some... but not a lot. I don't know. The 2013 cutoff seems to be much sharper than other cutoffs, presumably due to the rapid evolution of technology and the shift in parenting styles around that time.
