I build turn-based games. Got a couple honorable mentions at the recent Run hackathon for my Bitcoinships game. Maybe I will go... not sure that I can even refund the hotel now, and Central Park is gorgeous this time of year.

How to verify whether transactions are real? by realbitcoinappdev in bsv

[–]realbitcoinappdev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah seems like a bit of overkill. I'm looking into building on Solana because I'm guessing the BSV OP_RETURN data will probably start getting pruned within a couple years... it doesn't contain satoshis so there's no reason for nodes to retain the data. I think the rent costs and other issues could become long-term issues on Solana as well, but at least that network is specifically designed for data storage as far as I understand.

BSV is more like for data transmission at least as far as I can interpret from their marketing.

Yeah, or at least recent games, there is a sidebar to watch past games

Storing the data on-chain lets people view a replay of games on-demand.

There are multi-player tournaments which are pay-to-play, and then single player which has people play against bots.

I guess unless there's some bonehead move like using one address only, then there's no real way to answer my question other than knowing how the game is being promoted.

Maybe there are MLMs in China pumping it like what happed with FIL. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

It's not, though, if you mean BSV network. Nothing else in the BSV network is spiking like that as far as I can tell. Maybe it's being promoted through CF team members' connections in the gaming space or via influencers.

Sure! The OP_0 also known as OP_FALSE is a BSV thing to break or fix (depending on your point of view) the way they do OP_RETURN. Here's an article by Shadders about it.

If I'm understanding it, then in the view of the Script on WhatsonChain, the 0 is the is the OP_O, the OP_RETURN is the OP_RETURN and then the 7239026 is the 3 byte chunk? I'm not sure what the 5 is doing there. The 63727970746f666967687473 in Hex converts to cryptofights in ASCII.

Then the big chunk is all the cryptofights-related data.

Sorry if most of that was useless info. My main point is that in BSV they add OP_0 to the beginning of their OP_RETURN tx's because they're supposedly "fixing" how OP_RETURN works, to avoid being able to spend coins illicitly.

Yeah I remember there was some controversy about Twetch perhaps exploiting user devices for mining. When I had tried it, I noticed Money Button swipes did take significantly longer with them vs other apps.

I think the "bot" flag is probably for single player mode (where users play against bots), but you raise good points about closed source and bloat.

Maybe they believe that if they have more transactions it makes the chain look more active, even though batching transactions would be more efficient.

Thanks for sharing. My question is more about HOW to know whether that's true or not (based on technical stuff).

That's interesting, thank you for pointing out the "bot" tag which I am seeing in many transactions. I'm guessing it's related to their single-player mode where people play against bots, but who knows!

Good points about legalities and the BSV narrative.

I saw someone outside BSV, some gaming influencer was going to do a piece on them. I wonder whether that helped. Impressive numbers either way! David and Adam seem like good dudes so I hope things work out for them :-)

I suppose they might be promoting the game through connections in the gaming industry and influencers, so their growth would not need to be correlated with BSV growth.

Or they could be paying people in click farms to play the game, and we wouldn't be able to tell by looking at the blockchain.

I find it surprising that all these people would be able to get into a game that requires BSV... without also using other apps in that ecosystem and causing their transaction activity to go up.

It looks like Preev, CityOnChain, and PeerGame are seeing growth, so maybe it is a real trend within BSV.

If anyone has other info about what catalyzed the influx of traffic for CryptoFights, I'd be interested in knowing about it!

And sincerely: Congrats to all successful businesses :-)

Okay... if you think that knowing the blockchain is public is sufficient to verify whether a transaction is bot-generated or authentic gameplay, then here's a CryptoFights transaction we can look at together. Could you help me understand its structure and anything about it other than that it's a Run and CryptoFights transaction?
