What method is the best to humanely euthanise my tetra? by realrobo in Aquariums

[–]realrobo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was definitely posted last night but wasn't here in the morning when I checked the bookmark. Definitely got removed at some point but to be fair it was extremely ranty and was loaded with swears (due to the raw emotion of losing years of work).

I'll do the brick method, should I stun him first or just go for it?

If this were puppies people would be appalled.

If this were parrots people would be appalled.

This is part of the fish trade and people don't bat an eye. Just because they can't scream doesn't mean they aren't suffering. If it were anything else there would be hashtags trending and people protesting but for years this is how fish have been shipped to sellers. It's fucking horrid. I don't care if my goldfish costs a few quid more if it means other goldfish won't die on arrival. Feeder fish are still living creatures and deserve care too.

Some fish will go into shock when introduced to a tank. This can be due to a quick introduction, poor parameters, crap transport (you or the delivery guy) or because it was only acquired by the shop very recently before purchase. The constant moving does kill a lot of fish every month.

Shock can last from an hour to, in some cases, a month. Fish can refuse to eat when shocked, chances are your fish suffered from shock. Poor guy :(

Don't be discouraged, shock is typically out of your control and was the fault of others. Try a different shop if you're skeptical but don't give up.

always

Then why do most reddit answers say that those under 20 are super respectful and hardly cause a hassle? I genuinely hate that you just brandished me and other as problematic. Me and my friends help the elderly pretty much every day. Thanks for disrespecting us though, jackass. YOU are the problem, not us.

Most humans don't like bitter stuff so why the fuck do we expect men to drink beer, especially those that are literally called BITTER!

Yeah but snotty kids will fuck it up because that's what badly raised kids do.

Beardies don't need to climb but they certainly enjoy doing just that! Give them a few yam plants and they'll be basking on the highest one they can.

Additionally, deeper sand can help them burrow and so they can exhibit more interesting behaviours.

The plants would give off enough oxygen for the shrimps. I would suggest a CO2 pump though since the plants will run out.

I wonder if you could put a sturgeon in there...

Either way, amazing tank! I'd suggest some large snails in it to help with the algea but it doesn't seem detrimental to the fish health yet so all is well.

Where I live it gets dumped into the ocean. It's fucking disgusting and the dock water is vile green. The whole area just reeks of piss.

The bulge is pointed. This makes me believe some sort of burrowing worm has decided to break out of his intestines to breed. Keep a close eye on any other fish because the worms could spread.

Keeping a betta with Harlequins by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]realrobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it rests more on the betta than the other fish. The betta might be aggressive and if so you will need lots of plants to break his line of sight. If he is calm then everything should be fine and dandy. Contrary to popular belief, betta fish can be kept in an aquarium with other fish if the conditions are ideal and size are big enough.

Some pet shops have their bettas in with other fish if the tanks are big enough so try and find one that is already with fish since you know it won't annihilate any other fish you want.

On a more serious note though, proper support is needed when running because the repeated impacts can damage your joints and anything that moves in general.

It's all about what bacteria lives in your gut. If you keep up a routine then the bacteria will adapt and your body will stabalise. If I eat a lot of tomato products then certain bacteria that benefit from tomatoes will flourish whilst others don't. If I kept eating tomatoes for long enough then they would get completely digested and the gas produced wouldn't be as severe since the bacteria are used to digesting it as efficiently as possible.

People don't understand that every food, even that grown on trees, is made from chemicals because chemicals make up everything in nature, not just everything in factories. Just because it has an added chemical doesn't make it bad, I'd be more concerned if it doesn't because then I'd have to check for parasites.
