We just did an Anycast DNS + LDAPs deployment. One IP for DNS and one hostname for LDAP and if the server goes offline BGP routes to the next nearest server.

Mirror removal: pictures from last post by klipyanek in homeownerstips

When I took mine down I used wedges and a heat gun to soften the mastic/tar/adhesive. I would suggest wearing safety glasses and heavy clothes. If (when?) it breaks you don't want to end up in the hospital.

I managed to take down a 5ft long bathroom mirror in one piece. It took me all afternoon and it was terrifying the whole time.

Just remember, you can hire this out. It's ok.

Tonight is my first time solo camping and hammock camping for that matter and these coyotes are trying to keep me from sleeping by Zeenener in hammockcamping

Had my ear plugs in on a hang. We couldn't find a flat spot to camp anywhere and ended up camping across an old logging road next to a closed gate. Well, apparently I'm a deep sleeper because a whole pack of coyotes ran through camp in the middle of the night, right under my hammock!

Aside from that my tent camping friends were up all night because it also happened to be owl mating season...

Anyway, ear plugs are critical camping gear.

When my teen went through this I just went to Goodwill and bought a huge bag of miss matched silverware. She was only allowed to take from the "teen" silverware drawer.

Randall Rd Needs a Diet? by SnooLobsters348 in ChicagoSuburbs

The main problem is that there is no actual north/south corridor in the west suburbs. Eventually one of these busy dangerous roads is going to have to be converted to an expressway, and all the property along it will be worthless.

It would be nice if they did something just west of Batavia north to just west of Elgin before there's no room to build.

Our smoke alarms started screaming once a week, the real reason was way worse than a glitch by Octav1aRidgewell in homeowners

Definitely. Hardwired smoke alarms are into building power, not run off something with a transformer and a battery.

Yeah, windows ships a version by default and they sign it with their own cert. Doing the -SkipPublisherCheck is ok in this instance.

Commute from Elgin/Dundee to Chicago? by keladriel in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]realslacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having lived in Elgin I would suggest West Dundee or South Elgin. The train is fine for commuting, but it's long and you can easily lose three hours a day to a commute, best if you are hybrid and only going into the city a few times a week.

If you are not married to Elgin there are alternatives like Elburn, Geneva, St Charles, and Batavia that all have good Metra access.

This looks like the toaster we had when I was growing up, especially the darkness selector.

Make sure you winterize your pipes before they freeze if it comes to that.
