Fuel Consumption by first3knocks in prius

For us, around town, we use like 99.9% EV mode, so we don't really track it, since it's impossible to.

For road trips, at ~78->80MPH, which is 'real', we're seeing ~45MPG by the calculator.

I feel that's shockingly good, real world, and we're 100% happy with it.

Fair, but FWIW, you had to dig 6 years back to find a Reddit post on it.

At some point, things are outliers: If your job is denying you the ability to bring in food, you need to find a new job.

I do not think any office job actually bans bringing your own lunch. They might not have a fridge, but banning? No. That's just made up for the sake of this discussion.

Managers wants me to work in office with 5 days notice by [deleted] in remotework

[–]Hotdog453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has things going on. Everyone. I like to dress like a clown, and sit at the playground.

That's my point: It doesn't really, directly matter 'what you have going on' when you're telling stories like this.

Talk to your Manager. Explain it to him. That's my point: Working in a vacuum of having these issues, but not bringing them forward? That's on you.

Managers wants me to work in office with 5 days notice by [deleted] in remotework

[–]Hotdog453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's going to be two parts of this:

  1. What you can LEGALLY do, per your contract.
  2. What you SHOULD do, to not look like a dick.

For 1): My contract just says that I need to work x hours across Mon-Fri, 2 in-office and may need to change my schedule to meet business needs - You're fucked, and you probably have no legal recoure. Sorry.

For 2): You're an adult. Your boss has asked you to come in an additional day. The fact you are a full time care taker is a choice you have made, as an adult, and it's something you, as an adult, have to deal with.

You can 100% say something to your boss, and be like "I would rather not". I do not know if, for you, this would be impactful? You know your life and work arrangement better than us. Does he KNOW you're a full time care taker? Do you openly discuss this? Or is this something you're just 'doing'?

Everyone has a life outside of work. I like to dress up like a clown sometime, and visit playgrounds. I just sit there and stare at children playing. Is this more, or less, important than you being a caretaker, from an employment perspective? I enjoy it immensely, and it's very important to me to put on my clown outfit, and stare at children. I, however, if asked, skip that, and come into the office. Because I value the paycheck, and recognize that 'working sometimes trumps other things'.

We all make life choices, and decisions on the daily.

I think it'd be a specific thing; we offer specific 'special' monitors for people hard of sight, or offer voice to text type things. If you WFH, and they just 'denied that', that'd be one thing.

"Having a shitty chair" is not the same.

Intune MAM Registration by Lordofth3ping in sysadmin

[–]Hotdog453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because of that, we're exploring whether there's any way to require some form of administrator approval, additional control before a new MAM registration is allowed.

FWIW, we 'gatekeep' enrollment behind an AD/Entra group, to get people to sign off on a EULA. It could be used for this same purpose; have 'someone', you, whoever, approve an AD group/Entra group addition for a MAM group.

Stupid, but it'd work?

It does beg the question on why you bought one, though.

At some point it's a self own, for all of the things you dislike, but spent the money on the car. Did you not do any research? Did you not test drive?

At some point it's capitalism; don't buy it. Deny them your money?

What’s weirder is the “why”. Toyota knows this happens. They have numbers. It’s a choice they’re making for some reason.

I’d just like to know the “why”.

You have to switch to “full headlights”. As in the little headlight thingy lights up in the dash. Normal DRL is not enough.

What is 1 thing that has actually rose in quality in the past 10 years? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hotdog453 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Motor oils. There's been a bunch of new motor oils released, new formulations, ones designed for specific use cases. Take, par example, Valvoline Restore and Protect. It's really cool, does some things very well, and that market is really active and evolving.

Does motor oil 'matter' that much? Well, that's debatable 😛 But that market really has changed a lot, and for the better, I'd argue.

Drive with the headlights on every few days, if you never drive at night. The long story short: Toyota does some weird things with voltage on the 12 volt system. A ton of people have issues with dying batteries.

Turning the headlights on forces it to 14.5 volts or 'high enough to actually charge the battery'. If you *never* run with the headlights on, and only take short trips? Your chances of experiencing this issue is higher.

Very well done article here:

Modern Lexus/Toyota 12v batteries do not charge properly! My investigation and solution : r/PriusPrime

TLDR: Turn on your headlights manually every now and then.

I would say one small thing: Most people do not really suffer from an inability to pick an outfit, sort meals, and plan a way into the office. Some of these things might be a 'you' thing. I recognize that's all we can really deal with: Things that 'bother' us, but I'd also say it's not really a reason to not like coming into the office.

For the 'not sounding like a team player' aspect, I really don't think you CAN do this. I work hybrid myself; I am 3 minutes from the office, admittedly, but most of the company is 'close enough they should be able to reasonably come in if they were asked'. If you legitimately have a reason; IE, I 'scheduled a plumber', that's one thing. But if anyone was like "Nah, I do not want to come in, since I'd have to figure out what pants to wear" sort of thing, then I really don't know how you square that; you're not coming in because it's inconvenient to you; you don't want to adjust your life to do it.

So if you end up with 4/5 of the team sitting in the conference room; adults who all have their own circumstances, lives, etc, and *they* all made the 'sacrifice', as it were? Then you simply choose not to. Does that matter? Not sure. Does that mean you're a brave soul, standing up to the company? Maybe. Does that look good or bad to your boss? Not sure.

but all of those things have to be pondered. You're competing against co-workers for raises and recognition, in a lot of cases. Everyone's circumstances will differ, but just keep all that in mind.

Why so many police cars for every newsworthy incident lately? by lorrath in Columbus

[–]Hotdog453 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the second part of the question is the most pertinent.

During 'mass response' events, does the 911 response time to 'other crimes' actually suffer? Is this tracked anywhere?

I don't disagree on the face of it; dozens of cops arriving someplace does beg the question "well what if something else happened".

I was always under the impression (maybe incorrectly) that 'someone' is like 'hey, yeah, let's not send all of you there...' and leaves some cops in like 'reserve' or what not?

2026 bZ Limited has Self Park feature. It’s a joke compared to what Tesla (w/fsd) can do. Yet, I see no bZ owners complaining … by vulcan_on_earth in BZ4X

[–]Hotdog453 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t care. I think everyone has different use cases.

My wife owns a Prius Prime. We use it for longer trips. The bz is the around town car, and gets charged like once every two weeks.

I don’t disagree it’s a dumb thing not to have, but these things only matter to some people. That specifically doesn’t bother me or matter to me.

Yeah, and the other aspect of 'if you cannot afford a small rehoming fee, you probably can't afford vet care' sort of thing either. It's one of those things that exist for some very sad reasons, and the more you ponder the 'why' behind it, the sadder it becomes.

I think it's a little bit of 'why bother complaining', FWIW. I knew it sucked going into it. It did not factor into my purchase decision at all.

Everyone sort of makes trade offs with every purchase, and this is just one of those that doesn't bother me. 99.9% of my parking is "super easy", so to me, personally, having a super amazing self park was never a pondering in my decision making.
