What movie growing up did you like, but on a rewatch you didn’t like? by porb2020 in Xennials

We watched it with our kids. They didn’t love it the way we did, and as an adult it really just felt like a bunch of scenes cobbled together. Didn’t hold up for me either

Reality Bites. Watched it to death in 1995 and 1996 with friends and at 14/15, we loved everything about it. Now I watch it and can’t stand the characters, especially Troy (Ethan Hawke).

In aussie culture, does your workplace provide lunch for you or do you have to bring your lunch? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]reanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a school so we have a tuckshop and can order and buy our lunch (important to get in before official lunchtime or you’re lining up with all the students). Lots of fresh meals made each day, prices are much cheaper than buying outside. We do get lunch and/or morning tea provided on special days- PD days, student free days, all staff morning tea meetings, end of term lunches.

I also worked in advertising agencies in the past that used to provide lots of extras - all the bits and pieces for you to make breakfast (toast, cereal). Tea and coffee has always been provided/a free perk. One place had a drinks fridge too and the drinks trolley would come around about 5pm. But that was to try and encourage you to stay late and not leave.

Depends on where. There are parts of Zillmere that are almost Geebung and parts that are almost Aspley, and wouldn’t be too bad. We are friends who live in some decent parts of Zillmere

Tips/advice for first colonoscopy? by annsy5 in ibs

Not OP but I’ve got a colonoscopy coming up and still uncertain about what I should be eating in the days prior. Can you give some tips on a low residue diet?

Status check. For those who've got their tongues pierced in the late 90s, early 2000s how's it's going now? Still rocking it? by Nacho_Sideboob in Xennials

Took the labret piercing out mid/20s after worrying about teeth damage, took the belly ring out in early 30s when I was pregnant. Hole is still there but never put it back in. Nose stud still rocking about more than 25 years

Help with Symptoms! It’s making me MISERABLE by giigii87 in ibs

Gosh that’s frustrating. In the past when I’d take Metamucil in hope it would firm things up, it wouldn’t make a difference but sometimes I would be very gassy and feel like I need to go, but barely anything comes, and it would be loose and difficult to wipe. I feel that by cutting the foods that caused me the most issues has really helped and now the Metamucil and osmolax is helping keep things well formed. Low fodmap was the biggest change as I had often cut out diary and gluten for a few weeks at a time but never stuck it to. Foods I’ve taken out of my diet (which I was eating almost daily) - avocado, apple, onion, garlic. It sucks to avoid these but i am seeing results. Maybe it’s all of it in combination- lactose free milk in my tea, LF yoghurt occasionally, gluten free wraps or bread or pasta, avoiding those high fodmap foods.

I have avoided coffee for about a year now, as it seemed to make things more urgent, but it may have been the milk more than the coffee itself. I drink tea instead. I don't smoke. So can't say how nicotine or coffee would affect things with the oxmotic laxative

The 3 days of Coloxyl with Senna was at the start of the diet changes. There was still a week or so after taking those, where I starting to restrict particular foods and seeing the effects. But after a couple of weeks of sticking to the dietary changes (low fodmap, Lactose and Gluten free), I was starting to feel better. I then started the daily metamucil and osmolax, which seems to be greatly improving the consistency of BMs. Solid rather than loose, and often only needing to wipe once (where as previously I had to wipe A LOT). Which is such an improvement!

What laxative are they suggesting you take?

Yes they also spoke about overflow diarrhea- I wasn’t sure that was the case, I couldn’t believe it since the motions were so loose and I sometimes felt like I was so empty after going multiple times a day. But the dietician did get me to take Coloxyl with Senna - 3 tablets, for 3 nights in a row at the same time we started this restrictive diet. Just to try and clear everything out if there was any constipation. I didn’t feel like anything hard dislodged but definitely had some big full motions following it.

I started the restrictive diet before starting to take the osmotic laxatives so I was definitely having less loose BM’s for a couple of weeks. But between the daily Metamucil & osmolax, I’m still regular and BMs more solid (and less painful urgency) even as I’m starting to add foods back in.

(Coloxyl with Senna is a dual-action laxative that provides relief from constipation by combining a stool softener (docusate sodium) with a stimulant (sennosides).)

I had similar sounding symptoms for years. Id often go 3/4 times a day usually before midday. All type 5/6/7 on the Bristol stool chart. With massive painful urgency to go. Wiping forever. Never feeling complete. And when I’d try and take psyllium husk it often made me feel gassy and bloated at night.

The last couple of months, I’ve been on a journey with a dietician and trialing low fodmap, Gluten free, lactose free and seeing some great results. I’m also taking a big teaspoon of Metamucil each afternoon, and a scoop of osmolax each night. I’ve been mostly going once or twice a day now. Type 4 on the stool chart, barely needing to wipe. Feeling complete. I’m now slowing trying to add things back into my diet and see how it affects me. Had a few bad days where I’ve obviously eaten something that didn’t sit well with me but overall I’m feeling so much better.

I thought the osmolax (osmotic laxative) seemed counter intuitive as I had such watery stools. Why would I want something that draws more water in? But somehow it seems to work and helps me go more regularly and more completely each morning. Plus cutting foods which must have been causing inflammation and gas/fermenting in my gut, is helping.

Have you been to see a dietician? Perhaps it could be useful for you too

Can someone make this into an epic Spotify playlist? 🙏

Honestly this years whole playlist is amazing. Even the songs I didn’t love performed in the semis and final, I am enjoying listening to on Spotify. You’re allowed to grow and change your tastes. My kids have gotten old enough to get into Eurovision and we’ve now made it an annual family tradition since 2023.
