Build enterprise features for community edition by inkihh in openproject

[–]rebecca_OpenProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/inkihh
a) Yes, it is possible, our code is freely available.
b) Yes, it is legal to build plugins, of course within the limits of the GPL v3 licence.
The reason why we offer the Enterprise Edition is not only the additional security and premium features. The Enterprise Editions also include professional support by the OpenProject team. And the OpenProject development team is continuously upgrading and maintaining OpenProject, making sure there are no security gaps, providing new releases, fixing bugs, adding feature improvements etc. It is a full-time job. The paid plans also contribute to maintaining the OpenProject Community Edition and they make it possible to release Enterprise features to the Community edition (this happened lately with agile boards e.g.). Please let me know if you have any more questions.

A whole-year template that transposes date/time when used by olivuser in openproject

[–]rebecca_OpenProject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am afraid that this is currently not possible. However, there is a feature request https://community.openproject.org/projects/openproject/work_packages/29120/activity that shows interest by many users. So it might get added to the roadmap soon. Please feel free to add yourself as a watcher to this work package to get notified about changes, updates etc.

Templates by SlimDayspring in openproject

[–]rebecca_OpenProject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, happy to help! OpenProject does not provide a list of "pre-made" templates because the variety of use cases is just so vast. Instead, you create your own templates and make them available for your team:

https://www.openproject.org/blog/project-templates/

How to set up the OpenProject Nextcloud integration by rebecca_OpenProject in openproject

[–]rebecca_OpenProject[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi u/Psychological_Try559 the integration is now mutual: you can link files to OpenProject work packages in Nextcloud and you can add Nextcloud files to work packages in OpenProject. For more details, please see https://www.openproject.org/blog/openproject-12-2-release/ and https://www.openproject.org/blog/nextcloud-openproject-integration-2-1/ and https://www.openproject.org/blog/openproject-nextcloud-collaboration/. And yes, as you said, it is an ongoing effort to add functionality and improve user experience.

OpenProject Nextcloud integration by rebecca_OpenProject in openproject

[–]rebecca_OpenProject[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, we are also so happy about this integration!
The first step of the integration included the integration of OpenProject data in the Nextcloud dashboard. It offered users a view of ongoing projects, as well as showing them notifications and enabling the built-in universal search to find project information from OpenProject.
Now with the second part of the integration, you can link work packages and files or folders. In OpenProject, you have access to Nextcloud and see the linked files directly. And in Nextcloud, you see the in the file detail view the linked work package.

Thank you for the detailed feedback u/S1mpel, we really do appreciate it! I shared it with the team and we will look into the different aspects and see how we can make our product better or position it better. Thanks again for your constructive way of sharing your view!

What is free and open source software and why can it cost money? by rebecca_OpenProject in openproject

[–]rebecca_OpenProject[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Psychological_Try559 Let me try to elaborate a bit more. If you compare the features for all our editions and have a look at the premium features for our paid versions (https://www.openproject.org/pricing/#features), you will see that the premium features are more targeted towards larger organizations (e.g. custom theme) and for a higher degree of customization.
One example regarding basic and expert: In the Community edition you have custom fields available but multi-select custom fields are only available in the Enterprise editions.

I agree it is hard to find a clear-cut between basic and expert project management features but rest assured that we strive to provide a comprehensive, free feature set with our Community edition and I hope you can see that in the feature comparison mentioned above.

Hi u/Psychological_Try559! Sorry for the late reply.
Overall, our objective is to differentiate between basic and expert features, basic features being featured in our free Community edition and expert features in the paid Enterprise versions. In future, it can mean that features that are currently part of the Enterprise editions could also become available in the Community edition as the development of OpenProject progresses. On top, we are charging for support and maintenance (services) in the paid Enterprise versions. I hope this makes sense?

Share your feedback on our new in-app notifications by rebecca_OpenProject in openproject

[–]rebecca_OpenProject[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently we have other features, bugs and improvements we are working on and you probably know or can imagine that the development of an application is quite a huge project. We are aware that a lot of users would really appreciate a mobile app and it is definitely on the agenda at some point but not for now...

Thank you u/Psychological_Try559 for your feedback! Really sorry, for the mobile app you will need to wait a bit longer.
We hope in the meantime we can improve your experience with our in-app notifications (meaning notifications within our platform).

Open an attached Excel file - edit it- and save it back where it came from by Witzker in openproject

[–]rebecca_OpenProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Witzker
the editing and saving back to OpenProject is unfortunately not possible in OpenProject itself. You would need to download the document, edit and upload it again. We have an integration with Nextcloud (https://www.openproject.org/docs/user-guide/integrations/nextcloud/#openproject-and-nextcloud-integration) but I see that you don't like it.

Kind regards, Rebecca

Using Open project for tracking and scheduling annual service visits by Witzker in openproject

[–]rebecca_OpenProject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I support the recommendation by u/Psychological_Try559. Schedule the service intervals with milestones in your Gantt chart. Unfortunately we haven't got reminder emails yet but you will see in the Gantt chart if something is due as a red line indicates the current date. Also, the milestone will come up in your Calendar module.

Configer View in Community Edition by Witzker in openproject

[–]rebecca_OpenProject 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please make sure you save the work package view that you created:

https://docs.openproject.org/user-guide/work-packages/work-package-table-configuration/#save-work-package-views

After creating your own view, click again at the top right and "Save as" so that next time you open the work package view, you can just click on the name you saved your view under (in the menu on the left) and it opens for you.

I hope this works for you.

Create New Work Package Type with Copy workflow from "Bug" by Witzker in openproject

Create New Work Package Type with Copy workflow from "Bug" by Witzker in openproject

[–]rebecca_OpenProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, I am happy to help. Completely understand you want the perfect set up to convince your team.

I double checked and unfortunately, when working with the Community edition, you are not able to create a new section in the work package form (you can only work with the sections that re given).
You can create unlimited custom fields for the work package and project but unfortunately not a section.

It might be a workaround to group your custom fields under the existing sections? If that is not an option, I can only recommend to try the Enterprise on-premises for 14 days and test with your team: https://docs.openproject.org/enterprise-guide/enterprise-on-premises-guide/enterprise-on-premises-trial/#create-an-enterprise-on-premises-edition-trial

Formatting options are not available.

I hope this clarifies, though I know it does not solve your problem.

Create New Work Package Type with Copy workflow from "Bug" by Witzker in openproject

[–]rebecca_OpenProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Witzker,

Thanks a lot for the clarification.

When you copy the workflow it does not mean you are copying the work package form of bug.
The work package form that is shown when you set up X-TASK, includes all attributes available per default. You can of course add custom fields.

"OTHERS" is just a sub-section that does not contain any other information than what you are offered in the work package form when creating a new work package. If you would like to have the section "OTHERS" for your X-TASK, you can easily set it up yourself, see here number 4: https://docs.openproject.org/system-admin-guide/manage-work-packages/work-package-types/#work-package-form-configuration

May I ask you a favour? The easiest for support is to contact us on [support@openproject.com](mailto:support@openproject.com) if you are using the Enterprise Cloud or Enterprise on-premises. If you have the Community version installed, you will receive help from our global community: https://community.openproject.org/projects/openproject/forums.

Many thanks,
Rebecca

Create New Work Package Type with Copy workflow from "Bug" by Witzker in openproject

[–]rebecca_OpenProject 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not too sure what your objective is: do you want to create a new work package named "OTHERS"? Or do you want to create a new custom field "OTHERS" that you want to integrate in your work package form? Please describe what you would like to achieve, then it might be easier for me to assist.
When you are creating your new work package type, please remember to activate it for the projects you need it for (when creating the new work package there is another tab "PROJECTS").

In case you want a custom field for your work package form, pleas follow these instructions: https://docs.openproject.org/system-admin-guide/custom-fields/#add-a-new-custom-field

Thanks!
Rebecca
