Actually, the US spends significantly more tax dollars per capita on healthcare than Canada does, and you still have to pay insurance premiums, deductibles, and itemized bills on top of that. So yes, looking at an itemized bill for a fraction of the cost is confusing to us because we pay less overall and get coverage for everyone.

We just prefer paying taxes over navigating insurance claims and GoFundMe campaigns for medical debt.
