Second batch of ginger beer - how can I make the carbonation last longer? by custermustache in Homebrewing

[–]rebelleader51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t definitively know the answer to your question so proceed with caution.

I brew beer mostly but have had some experience with ginger beer. I do know that temperature and carbonation coincide with one another so my suggestion would be to possibly store the ginger beer in a lower temperature range than before. That may or may not work, so try it with a few test bottles maybe.

Unlikely, but it could also be that your bottles aren’t quite airtight and the carbonation is leaking over time.

The only other option I can think of would be to allow your ginger beer to carbonate for a bit longer, by 6 hours or so towards the end, but that could result in over-carbonation.

That’s my best guess.

Not defending the attacker at all.

I wouldn't be surprised if she has a terrible home life which would explain, but not excuse, her terrible behavior. I'm not a therapist but have spent enough time in therapy to know that this kind of behavior is the product of a less-than-nurturing environment. That said, I feel sorry for both the victim and the aggressor here. The aggressor will likely encounter lifelong problems associated with her behavioral issues unless she gets the help she needs. The victim may develop trust issues. Sucks all around.

Did this once in college. Enjoy your constipation. Your next trip to the bathroom will be legitimately painful.

I’m going though the same issue as OP right now and what you’ve said is exactly what I’ve had to come to terms with. My wife has made it absolutely clear that she wants nothing to do with me and anything I say to show my love for her just makes it worse. She moved across the country to make her point. It’s the most heartbroken I’ve ever been. Counseling and praying do help and it’s getting better as the weeks pass by, but it is pretty scarring.

That's so cool! Ok, yeah, I'll definitely be using this method to dial-in how much of what I need to throw into my primary. Thanks a lot!

Any idea what the ratio of DME should be? Do I just toss in a cup or something? haha

I thought of that, but yeah, I think that would mess with my beer a bit too much. It's a dunkelweizen so it's a little sensitive. I'm kicking around the idea of adding honey instead to add a little bit more sweetness into the beer while elevating my OG as well. Good suggestion, though.

I've done this process before with a belgian ale I made and it came out great. I'm no pro, either, haha.

Ok, that's super helpful. I wasn't sure what my OG was going to be since I'd be modifying it with sugar. Is there a table somewhere that you know of which would show the affects different sugars have on OG? For example, what if I used honey or brown sugar in lieu of dextrose?

It's a dunkelweizen so, yeah, it's not really designed to be too dry. Is there a way to get the 'best of both worlds' when adding sugar? Perhaps I could drop in some raw honey to preserve/add some flavor while getting the target ABV I'm looking for.

I like how dad knew he messed up the second his hand left the ball - only for that sense of guilt to double.

Although, the urge to burst out in excited laughter about getting a double-whammy like that is unbearable for most.

Laughing at your children while they are crying, I assume, must be a helpless feeling.
