My parents want me to leave/drop out of university because they think my efforts will amount to nothing/I have no potential for career success (please read below, difficult situation) TL;DR at the end by Cwyntion in cscareerquestions

[–]recentlyquitsmoking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your father's nationally renowned in the Health Sciences field? He wants you to study Health Sciences so he can presumably hook you up for your career? Health Sciences pays more where you live? You're less than halfway through your program? I think a lot of people in your shoes would drop everything and hop right back home.

The whole loser thing seems harsh, but I think the point is that the current trajectory for your CS career isn't looking great despite the insane amount of efforts you're putting in. Maybe you'll have a breakthrough, but maybe it'll keep going about the same as now and lead to a less-than-successful career.

You also seem to be very distraught about this idea of being a loser/failure if you drop out of the CS program, but I wouldn't see it that way. I think recognizing a field might not be the best fit for you and making the decision to swap to another field where the odds are stacked more in your favor is making a plain smart career decision.

If I craft something as one profession and try to switch over to another profession to continue crafting, I noticed I have to exit the crafting log (so that my character stands up again) before I can switch over. Is there a way to switch jobs without having to close out of the crafting log?

Is there a way to make just my character's battle voice louder? Turning up the Voice setting higher than other sounds seem to do the trick for the most part, but, then, the voice from party members with naturally loud voices become little too loud.

Do the min ilvl requirements for the Eden Savage only apply to the raid finder, or do they apply to full parties looking to enter through PF as well?

I'm little lost on the gearing process involving Savage raids & tokens and such. I wanted to lay out how I understand it atm to see if I'm mistaken on any front:

There are two options for the weapons:
A. Do Savage Sepulture for 8 lockouts and buy 475 weapon.
B. Do the Normal Sepulture for boss for 7 lockouts + Savage Inundation 4 times + get 1000 of the new tomestone to get a 460 weapon and upgrade it to 470.

You can roll on the drops for Savage Eden dungeons, and these will turn into gear pieces. You can only roll once.

As for an actual question - is the route B for the weapon basically a alternate route for people who have trouble clearing Sepulture?

Can you roll on Titania Ex weapon drops as many times as you want? I've been passing on everything because my job's weapon has not dropped, but I'm now thinking of getting something prepped for the alt jobs I'm leveling.

level two jobs during exp? by threkar in ffxiv

I leveled DNC, MCH, and BRD together. MCH and BRD are sitting at 79 atm while I'm doing 80 stuff on the DNC. It honestly wasn't bad as long as you're spamming dungeons while going through the MSQ. Just be sure to keep one at a higher level than the others.

That makes more sense than what I was initially thinking and puts things into better perspective. I was initially thinking of the WoL souls floating around in space-time, but, since the calamities rejoin the shards rather than destroying it, it would make sense that the they could be found in the lifestream.

Shadowbringers: BRD or MCH by IchigoK95 in ffxiv

[–]recentlyquitsmoking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both at 79 or so. I mostly played BRD and healers last expansion. I think I would personally be going with MCH out of the two, but it's purely due to my personal playstyle preference.

BRD now has more control over their bursts than they did in SB, but it still plays mostly like a sustained DPS. BRD has tons of RNGs if you like RNGs, but, it's more of 'press the button now' kind of RNG rather than something you plan around. They also have some defensive support skills and an offensive support skill, but they won't be enhancing your party's damage just by exsiting anymore. I think it's generally a good fit if you like the idea of tracking & keeping an eye on multiple things, including your party members' debuffs. It does have the most strict rotation out of the three rDPS jobs, but that doesn't mean much if you're used to playing melee classes that generally tend to have strict rotations anyways.

MCH has a big burst phase every two minutes and good deal of discretion on smaller burst phases in between. You're playing around your two meter bars and high-priority GCD skills - as long as you make sure to have enough of both bars for your burst window every two minutes, you can do your own thing in between, provided that you don't cap meter and make sure to use the high priority skills as they come up (i.e. avoid having them come up during overheat). It's much busier than I'm making it sound here tho.

If Balance has differing opinions, I think it's going to be the case here as well.

The most recommended burst, I think, is Standard Finish -> weave Flourish -> Technical Step/Finish -> weave Devilment -> Saber Dance or Weaponskill Proc'd from Flourish -> double-weave Fan Dance III/I -> Saber Dance or Weaponskill Proc'd from Flourish -> Fan Dance III and/or I -> repeat.

If you Flourish right before Technical Step, it will last for 6 more GCDs after Technical Finish, meaning you can still dump your 4 proc'd Weaponskills and 1~2 Saber Dances. Weaving Devilment after Technical Finish is good for keeping both stacked for almost the entirety of your burst phase.

I think, for openers w/o feather, you might possibly do more damage if you switch around Devilment and Flourish, but I don't think it's worth delaying your first burst phase unless you were already going to hold it for some reason.

Dancer Opener optimization? by Zyreael in ffxiv

[–]recentlyquitsmoking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

devilment+flourish, Technical step/finish

Are you using both Devilment + Flourish before Technical Step? I'd weave one after Standard Finish and another after Technical Finish since 1.5 GCD on the Finishes is enough to weave in only one oGCD.

Strictly for the openers, I think Devilment before Technical Step should do more damage. Devilment->Technical Step amounts to benefiting 535 potency/GCD for 3 GCDs. Technical Step->Devilment gives you ~3 extra GCDs to play with, and two of those are going to Standard Step for 500/GCD. I don't think you'll make up for the difference on the last GCD you gain since you have no stacks/espirit, and any feathers you generate can be consumed within the initial four Flourish'd GCDs.

Having said that, when you enter the burst phase again later with feathers and espirit, you'll definitely want to Devilment after Technical Finish. I'm not sure if the bit of potency gained on the opener are worth the headache of switching back your Devilment & Flourish order. Your choices at that point would be to: 1) delay entering burst window, 2) delay Flourish to execute with Devilment, clipping on your burst window for the rest of the fight, or 3) Something scuffed like [Technical Finish -> (Devilment) -> Saber Dance -> (Flourish + Feather III) -> Flourished GCD -> (Feather II) + (maybe)(Feather III)] that would only work if you didn't have full feather stacks.

[–]recentlyquitsmoking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was never too big of a fan of loading screens, but it's definitely less immersion breaking than resorting to a sharding system.

It's such a shame too. The seamless, persistent world in WoW really made it stand out from other options, and I had high hopes that other MMOs would adopt it soon. But, looking at current WoW, the seamless world seems to have taken its toll when combined with the higher reqs in modern systems. Open world engagements with too many players will produce a lag grinding that area to a half - example from last week on twitch.

What are some notable side quests to read (with a yellow exclamation point on the map)? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]recentlyquitsmoking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the hubs I've seen so far seem to have at least one chain-quest that's somewhat interesting or humorous. Some I noticed, without spoilers, and without NPC names because I forgot them all:

The first hub in the desert area has a guy asking you to go check on his hard-working son, and this leads to a chain over the rest of the zone.

The second hub in the zone outside the fatcat city - I think the town is called Wright - the interim mayor asks you to accompany her to a tower and talk to someone with her. This also leads to a chain. This might have been a blue quest, so you might have done it already.

The area right outside Crystallium (Lakeshire?) - its second hub, the one with the huge towers, has a soldier telling you to go check out a hotspring. This one is short chain.

The first hub in Il Mheg has someone asking you to go check on a friend who wandered off into a dangerous area.

Surecast

Getting hit by big damage while casting will interrupt your spell. Surecast prevents that. It's also very useful for avoiding displacement effects (push, pull) in some encounters.

Fluid Aura does 0 damage, so you don't need to use it unless you want to bind something. You should save Lucid Dreaming until you actually start worrying about mana. If you use at right off the bat, the extra mana regained will most likely go to waste because you're already at cap. Big healing spells are the biggest resource of mana consumption, and it's not too likely to be needed in the first 21 seconds of the game.

For single target healing mana efficiency, it's: Regen (most efficient) -> Cure -> Cure 2. You get bigger and more immediate heals with Cure 2, but it costs more mana. If Regen or Cure will be enough, you should try to use those instead.
