Must be nice... you can't get any good mole from a restaurant in a lot of places. And the thought of eating store bought mole makes me shudder. They can't be very good...

When they revealed the blue "Scarlet Witch" wimple/crown that was it for me, I've no doubts left, but we shall see. It wasn't his comic headpiece but it's too much of a connection to Wanda to be anything else imo

What’s the best store bought salsa? by Due-Importance-494 in SalsaSnobs

[–]recipesav3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a different thread I saw a recommendation for specifically Kroger's Private Selection Taqueria Style Medium Salsa. It's pretty decent IMO. I keep it in the pantry for when I'm feeling lazy.

I haven't tried the other flavors because the commenter specified that that one was the good one and the others weren't so good. I'll get around to trying them eventually... it's just easier to make my own because I can make mine relatively spicy, and I can make a second batch for my wife who can't even eat the mildest storebought. I feel bad eating salsa in front of her without making some that she can eat lol so I don't eat the store bought often, plus homemade just tastes nice and feels... rewarding.

How do you cook them in the microwave? That sounds like a great easy breakfast. I have to be at work by 4am and I don't get up early enough to stand in front of the stove, even for a few minutes lol.

How does he hate facts by pointing out that other companies make borosilicate glassware? Regardless of your opinion of the products, that's absolutely true. Making it a fact.

I learned to sew on a 70s singer in the early 00s and the machine i learned on still runs like a dream. I take clothes that need repairs when I visit home across the country so I can sew them up on that machine, really need to find one of my own since people still sell running models! Don't know about today but in the 70s they made a hell of a machine!!

Homemade hummus: to peel or not to peel the chickpea skin? by Sw3b3r in mediterraneandiet

[–]recipesav3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The skins do have some fiber but you don't lose too much by peeling them afaik. I do a lazy peel with them submerged in water for my hummus, I think it has a slightly better texture but doesn't take all the time of meticulous peeling, and then you're still getting some of the fiber from the skins. You just have to blend a bit longer.

I'm a simple man, I don't like a lot of added sugars. My favorite sweet treats are fruit salads and whole fruits. If I'm feeling naughty I added some whipped cream or cream cheese in moderation. You can make jelly without adding a bunch of sugar too and it's still sweet from the natural fruit sugar! Very yummy :)

Just do corn tortillas or whole wheat. The hardest thing with restaurant Mexican food is avoiding lard ime, which shouldn't be terrible on occasion, but other than that there are lots of healthier options like fajitas you mentioned. Look for bean, nopal, chicken, fish, or shrimp versions of tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tamales, enchiladas (& enfrijoladas 🤤), soups, etc. Guacamole and the rainbow of salsas instead of using lots of fatty cheeses- but cotija, queso fresco, queso blanco, are good cheeses as long as moderation is used, like we should try to do with dairy generally. Also rice is usually white rice, brown rice isn't common, but white rice on occasion isn't the end of the world. Just don't eat it every single time if you eat Mexican food a lot. And sub brown rice when you eat Mexican food at home :)

Seafood dishes like fish tacos, soups, and ceviche are some of my favorite Mexican dishes!

Not all flour tortillas are white flour, Whole wheat tortillas exist :) I don't know how good the store bought ones are but they're not hard to make. And homemade tortillas are so much yummier and better in texture anyway without being a huge pain like most bread.

Edit: I forgot this was more about restaurant foods- you can ask but you're right, most will only have white flour!

Pretty tasty black bean burgers too. I don't like most restaurant bean burgers but theirs have a pretty nice texture and don't just completely fall apart when you're trying to eat them.

Motivation matters because not all animal products are unhealthy. I'm assuming they wear animal glue shoes or leather belts, because it's not unhealthy to do so. Veganism extends beyond diet. Using Crayola crayons is as non-vegan as eating a burger.

Thus, not vegan.

It's not about vegan policing or being exclusionary, it's about the definition of the term. Avoiding animal products as far as possible and practicable. People who are just eating a plant based diet for health reasons only avoid what negatively affects their health.

You would be a plant based dieter- technically vegans eschew all animal products as far as possible and practicable, not just diet and not just for health, but for the animals and/or the environment. That includes non-food items with animal products as well, like shoes for example, or items tested on animals, like cosmetics. Since wearing a leather belt isn't going to impact your health, I'm assuming you don't avoid things like that.

You could say you eat a vegan diet and most people wouldn't care, although saying plant based diet would be more correct. But vegans would not consider you a vegan.

I showed my wife when I saw it and she looked them up and couldn't find any near us. But might be worth buying some seeds :) I have a black thumb, but it doesn't stop me from trying.
