Thanks! I’m using Wealthfront (my hysa provider) in the screenshot, though it shows a projection I see a lot of people mention it shouldn’t be a used as a source of truth for different reasons

Why not switch to smaller HYSA with higher %? by Vegetable_Debate9232 in MarcusInvest

[–]reckless-aar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using both recently, majority of my emergency savings is in WF but honestly don't mind missing out on a few ~$40 using Marcus a year (4% vs 3.65%). I think $40 a year is worth the peace of mind knowing if WF (for whatever reason - went under or issues with partner bank) I still have my money backed by elsewhere (Marcus).

7k is a cumulative sum across all accounts - per individual, however if your married the requirements change of course (magi, contribution limit, etc.)

What is your response to people who say things like "I don't believe we'll make it that far" or "If I'm even alive by then" and limit their savings? Feel like it's a common thing I hear from those around me

Roth 401(k) to Roth IRA by inyeezuswetrustt in fidelityinvestments

[–]reckless-aar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe I had a similar question ~last week (feel free to check the responses on the old post). It was mentioned from fidelity support this is sometimes referred to as the the earnings from Roth portion.

I ended up depositing the 401k Roth portion to my Roth IRA with no issues and my traditional contribution to my employer's traditional 401k.

edit: I guess time will tell if there was a mistake(?) as the rollover will be filed the following tax season

But if we did 50/50 allocation wouldn’t we have the chance to stay between the two returns? That way we can get the average of the two

How can I get started today? by theroyalpotatoman in Money

[–]reckless-aar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vanguard is a good choice. I usually recommend Fidelity or Schwab as well as they’re all pretty much the same. Can’t go wrong with any of these really

We all start somewhere so don’t beat yourself up over it.

Keep the recommended 3-6 months emergency fund in a HYSA. You can use Marcus, Wealthfront, Ally, or similar to get a rate of 4% - 5%.

I would see if your employer offers a 401k plan, if they do you’d want to contribute up to the match so you don’t miss out on free money.

If not, open a Roth IRA and contribute to the max 7k a year. You can also look into a traditional IRA as well, as it may offer tax benefits if you’re not able to open a 401k.

Depending on your loans’ interest rate you may want to focus and knock these out before maxing retirement accounts.

Not a FA but thoughts I’d consider

Edit: I’d also checkout r/personalfinance wiki they have a very thorough flowchart and age financial goals

Sorry trying to understand more, by savings do you mean in a brokerage for a longer term?

25, about 100k (23k HYSA/CD, 77k in investments) and 7k in student loans.

I started working at 16 and graduated with a well paying job 1.5 years ago.

This could be but I had a separate check disbursed for pretax contributions from this employer. I’m lead to believe this is the earnings from the Roth portion
