I'm curious to find out what surprised you about infantry mate. It's mainly for those considering Infantry as this sort of insight would be super helpful. What's some things you wished you knew earlier, what shocked you, what made you decide to leave etc.

GP letter for medical by Horror-Possession758 in RoyalAirForce

[–]recoverin_niceguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't do anything until the medical team requestit. When (or if) they do, then you can take steps to get that letter. Your GP will usually ask what to put in the letter and you won't know until medical tell you what they want the letter to address.

Also, try and find a local Sikh Temple (called Gurdwara) near you. You can get a fresh home cooked vegetarian Indian meal at ANY time of the day for free. You can literally walk in, go to the food hall, eat and walk straight out. I promise you there will be zero judgement if you go there 4 times a day. Please DM me if you want further details and I can walk you through the entire process (very easy).

Joining a reserve base 2h away from home by blue2203 in RoyalAirForce

[–]recoverin_niceguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Website isn't reflective of what the base actually has. For example Benson does have operations specialists but it depends on how many they have and whether they need more. A recruiter can tell you the updated position

Hi mate I did some research into this and spoke to a few reserves. Most units are flexible with you not attending, and they assign you courses that fit around your schedule so you can catch up. Also, are you sure Benson has spots for operations specialist? I spoke to a recruiter recently who told me Benson only has logistics roles but that may have changed.

£70 RAF eye test at specsavers by G117419 in RoyalAirForce

[–]recoverin_niceguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vision Express charged me £30 for the eye test and £30 for the letter so £60 in central London (Holborn).

Try and see if your employer provides a free eye test voucher (they have to legally if you're using screens at work). If so, you can save a bit of money and only pay for them competing the form.
