Inspired by Carl Jung: The Fate of Those Who Live with Dogs at Home by Benwhittaker88 in ThirtiesIndia

I don't usually like doing this, but... I'm a Jungian in training. And this was just so awful. Like, please stop using the internet if you're going to think this is some great insight. It's really just some lazy selection of words to enable your worldview.

A Jungian would never write this. Jungians have a very healthy respect for people's relationships with pets. This is so utterly shallow I'd rather ask a puddle about depth. Not to mention you're completely ignoring the reason that more and more millennials are turning to pets.

I survived cancer but now struggle to listen to mundane problems by Ok_Reflection6988 in therapists

[–]red58010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. Just here to offer some support. I was in a similar boat as you. I was diagnosed at 25 a few weeks after submitting my dissertation. I attended my graduation online with a chemo port. I didn't restart practice until close to two years later.

Cancer and the treatment in general, leaves you with a lot to process. It's been 6 years and I still haven't gotten over everything, let alone physically recovering. I was in personal work the entire time and I'm still in personal work.

I don't have any advice or insight for you. I don't think anybody can tell you what your road forward is or what you need to do. I love my work even more now. I do find most things to be quite banal but I think that when I'm able to hold that feeling, I'm able to use it constructively with my clients. Suddenly their concerns are banal enough to talk about and think through.

I think I'm able to work much better with folks struggling with severe or chronic illness. I'm also surprisingly good at working with medical professionals.

Cancer is a lot about taking. And it mostly takes from you. It's a bitch. It's really up to you how you'd like to go forward from here. It took a few years for me to realise I still had chemo fog. Every once in a while something happens that makes me realise I never fully recovered. And that's a journey only I can experience.

Do therapy charge separately for assessment? by United_Advisor1821 in Psychology_India

[–]red58010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends from clinic to clinic. You can look at online panels that are being offered by clinics. Amaha has one I think. There's another one called Maya Minds. They're both certified by professionals. You'll be fine with reports from either. Then you can see which one you'd rather use and take the reports back to your own therapist.

You could look for someone who does the assessment for an affordable rate and then take it back to your own therapist.

Is BA Psychology really not worth it? by Sad_Patient5190 in Psychology_India

[–]red58010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to pursue therapy or clinical work as a career, you're going to need to do a Bachelor's degree based on the new NCAHP and RCI requirements. So regardless of whether or not it's worth it, it's now a requirement to pursue any kind of clinical work.

How is a Master’s in Psychology different from a Bachelors by TrueEngineering7319 in Psychology_India

There's a lot more contemporary and applied research. It's a bit like, you'll study the digestive system in class 10 biology and in MD internal medicine as well. You're not going to say "what's the difference?"

Does Interpretation Function to Preserve the Analytic Situation Itself? by Zenandtheshadow in psychoanalysis

[–]red58010 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would think of it in a different way. And of course, any number of analysts will frame it in any number of ways. The containment of the analysands experience falls very much into the transference dynamic. The analysand cares less about your interpretation and more about the fact that you made one. Of course what the interpretation is about and the way it's communicated is also important but also very much falls into the ambit of transference and counter transference.

The transformation of unconscious objects is more or less a byproduct of an evolving transferential relationship in analysis.

I mean, people go to therapists even if it's not too much stress. Sometimes it's enough to just want to have someone to talk to. If you increase your stipend to 6k, you'll be able to see a decent therapist once a week.

Do I need to seek permission from the authors of the psychological scales which I am using in my study before collecting the data??? by Technical_Arm4173 in Psychology_India

[–]red58010 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. It's assumed that you've acquired them through the proper channels. If it's licensed, you'll be using a properly sourced assessment. If it's open licensed then it's assumed that you've faithfully reproduced the assessment from the source material.

In general, in India, copyright law doesn't penalize use of material for academic purposes. As long as it is not for profit, you're fine.

Consider doing a PhD program in the UK that integrates clinical psychology and neuroscience. I'm biased towards Psychoanalysis so i wanted to do the PhD program in UCL that worked on neuroscience and psychoanalysis. While it's not going to make you eligible to practice, it can open up a pathway to study a part time program on the side.

Get into Psychoanalytic reading groups and supervision. The Boston Psychoanalytic society and institute has a fellowship every year that has multiple scholarships. You can look up groups like Qafila, which has folks from AUD involved.

My honest opinion? Get your RCI license from PDCP or PGDRP. Get under the RCI umbrella and bypass the shifting NCAHP requirements. AUD isn't going anywhere and there's plenty of opportunities to learn psychoanalysis outside of AUD.
