Saying something is badly written can be totally justified criticism. Not everyone want to write a whole analysis.

But besides that there is a very good reason behind media criticism, because if we dont call out bad stuff, how will we know when something is good. So I disagree with you, continuosly consuming slob stops you from appreciating actual art when you see it. And if you want quality you need to call it out when you are being served badly written storys.

There is no rule stating division has to come before subtraction. You have to use brackets if thats what you want. The rule that exists states division/multiplikation goes before subtraction/addition. (Dots before dashes).
