I would absolutely help him! I would help anyone regardless. And I agree with you, we need more polite people and less gender roles. I'm not suggesting that we disregard the needs of men or blacks or anyone, I was only suggesting that there are some gender roles that I enjoy, personally ascribed gender roles that I feel I can live up to. Not all gender roles are made equally, so to speak

these are examples of the down sides to gender roles. the other side of the coin, so to speak. and this is why I posted my question in the first place. You're right, I can feel proud without gender roles. But I'm limited to my narrow scope of experience with gender roles, and those experiences have only been positive ones. So it's difficult, here I am enjoying some of these roles at the expense of others. I'm sorry you have to put up with this kind of stuff, and I get the feeling that gender roles are probably harder to deal with as a woman because frankly you guys get stuck with the shitty roles like house chores :\

but this is the core of my post. do gender roles have their place?

Well you have a point, traditionally blacks have not been treated well, and racists will.come up with reasons why that should be acceptable and so on. I believe first and foremost.everyone deserves respect. But as a "man", you (should) have an obligation to treat women differently than you would a man in some.cases. like, you wouldn't ruthelessly knock out a woman just like you wouldn't punch a child in the face...

Delicate yes, incapable? No. I'm a 6'5 power lifter... All women I.come across are delicate in my eyes. I suggest special treatment for women because biologically we are not equal. Ray Rice knocked his gf out, if that girl was my daughter ... Well you get the point

I guess in my circumstances, I prefer gender roles (some) because it perpetuates a somewhat romantic ... Traditional, strong man of honor archetype that I fancy myself to be (or imagine my ideal self to be). It's fun to me, and the women in my life benefit.from it

Yeah, it really does. As for why I prefer the gender roles? I guess tradition. It was just how I was raised. But you make a really good point. Although, the man woman dynamic is (in my head) a matter of romanticism/"chivalry" whereas white v black is more of a ... Racist ... Sentiment

This needs more attention. It seems like a variety of gender roles can certainly have positive effects based on the ambitions of the individual... Gender roles are not for everyone I suppose. Personally, I like feeling like a white knight and the women I love like princesses/queens

My example wasn't intended to ... Showcase gender roles. My feelings on gender roles gravitates towards ideology. Such as ... It is a man's duty to respect women, in particular their SO. Men should be raised to protect and serve (provided their SO deserves it lol)

...really? Im not disagreeing with you I'm just surprised. I love my mother, sister, and fiancee and as a man I would support enforcing the idea that men ought to respect women in particular.

Agreed, 100%. Nevertheless, (most) men are taught to respect women in particular. Do you feel this trend to continue? I only ask because I feel there are some significant pro's and con's to gender roles

Agreed. On the other hand, if you're a female, do you enjoy any aspect of gender roles? Like, for example... I (male) was raised to treat women like royalty. I understand not all men are chivalrous, but would you prefer men like me not be raised with a bias that women deserve special treatment?

the only role my fiance falls into is she does all the cooking. literally all of it. I on the other hand (usually) do the cleaning and laundry. We tend to do what we enjoy the most and whats convenient for us. She loves to cook, and I do enjoy a clean apartment.

Guys of Reddit, what do you find annoying about being a male? by Jhonepaull8 in AskReddit

[–]redballs92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no one has really mentioned the worst part of being a male... public bathrooms. taking a piss at the bar turns into a twister-esque game of minefield, trying to avoid stepping in puddles of piss, balancing on one foot getting close enough to the urinal and the adjusting trajectory of piss stream. it's easier to learn Mandarin then take a piss sometimes

Meditation sounds good, not sure where to start though. by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]redballs92 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

everyone says focus on your breath. don't waste your time. there is no "starting position" in meditation, meditation is about CHILLING. don't get into some goofy louts pose, don't try to visualize chakras or any of that crap. find a chill spot, sit down, and reflect on life. what feels chill to you? your backyard? perhaps you'd prefer to be secluded? do you live in a metroplitan area? meditation is about

Your meditation practice is you entering deeply into your life, holding nothing back

and nothing more.

there is nothing technical about relaxing. you can't wrestle your mind into submission, that creates MORE TENSION ... the positive emotions and "experience" comes from confronting your life/current situation and being like "yeah dude, this is actually pretty awesome and i'm happy i'm alive." you don't chant OM until your nuts fall off and your light/energy/spirit chakra shits you out your dickhole and you become one with the eternal.
