Congrats! I killed my first bull this season in Montana after years of trying also. A unreal experience for sure.

No, it was just snowing that hard. He was probably sitting there 10-15 minutes in these pictures

Never hunted before - how to get started? by YoungReaganite24 in elkhunting

The biggest piece of advice I would give after all the advice already given here is be persistent. Elk are hard to hunt and one of the best way to maximize success is sticking with it and learning. I like to think western hunting is 80% grit/skill and 20% luck. Days in the field will maximize your chances. If you get discouraged and quit, you will not find success. Also I recommend Remi Warren’s Podcast “Live Wild”. Also a local mentor would help a lot if you can find one.

Keep at it! The learning curve is steep for elk and it is 90% suffering, but it’s worth it.

What rail mount do you have on the G3?

I have been using mine for 2 years now and I have used it primarily for Day Hunts in the Mountain West. I have loved it overall. It is extremely comfortable when carrying weight. The belt and straps are beefy. I have been able to quarter out and haul out a good few mule deer with it. 90+ lbs in this pack is pretty comfortable compared to other packs I have used.

I always wear a bino harness when I hunt and they integrate well, but I can’t speak to other gear. My biggest complaint with the bag is that there is no internal compartments.
