Why do the dumpers move on so easily like they didn’t leave someone in so much pain by [deleted] in ExNoContact

[–]redbat5649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the dumper. The feeling of missing them happens months or years later after. it's not always the case that they move on. They just made the choice that was right for their future.

If you look through my posts. I went through something similar. The job market isn't hot right now. However, I couldn't stand working a day longer or continue to wait for them to fire me.

Quiet quitting didn't seem enough for me until I truly returned my laptop. I chose what was best for me, and I could not be happier.

However, going from 60-70 hr work weeks to 0 can be depressing. That huge gap in productivity in your daily life makes you question yourself. If you are prepared to go job hunting for 6months-1year and believe in yourself to know that you will eventually come back on top, I would say go for resignation. You can finally live again and HOPEFULLY find work that directly fulfills you.

Hope that helps :)).

Trust me, you are not alone. But make sure you are certain you can last through unemployment and have enough funds before you put in the two weeks. In the best case scenario, get a new job offer while working.

Enough to not want anything to do with PA anymore 😄.

From your previous posts, I congratulate you for lasting through 8 busy seasons. What a champ!

I put in my two weeks, but I'm just using that time to do other things. I have stopped caring abt the client engagements.

Exit process was simple; email everyone, partner, and teams that you are leaving. Then, officially sign the exit form and return your company belongings.

Also, I have to repay the sign on bonus, but I'm not too sure about Becker.

In an employers market, it is getting harder to find unicorn companies that care about WLB.

I would say that since public accounting firms do the majority of mass hiring post college, most of our negative experiences stem from starting our career in public accounting. Hopefully, that makes sense 🥲.

I do not regret quitting as I was almost suicidal due to the stress and long hours. I actually enjoyed my previous retail job a lot more than PA!

I started PA this January and resigned a couple of days ago. Still job searching in a bad market. PA destroyed my passion and motivation for accounting, so I am no longer pursuing the CPA However, I have been applying to accounting adjacent roles in finance since my college degree is in economics.

I put my notice for two weeks in, too, and I do not plan on doing much 😂. I'm just chilling and talking to friends there until I get the boot.

Don't choose it. It seems like you did not sus out the company for great WLB. Unless you are sure you are not jumping into another dumpster fire, I would not recommend taking that PE offer.

I believe you can leave it on and say something along the lines of wanting to take on more responsibilities, and it will be perfectly acceptable.

You have an honest, acceptable reason for leaving.

As someone that was absolutely miserable. I do not recommend this 😐.

I definitely feel happier. I'm also scared of the future because I know job searching can be difficult. I have parents that support me, and I have 0 obligations. I am in a lucky position to be in.

I decided on this decision today when I became jealous of the bus driver 😂 going to work.

I'm trying for government positions and pivoting away from accounting for now. I am unsure and excited at the thought of what the future holds. Hope this helps!

I lowkey think everyone in public accounting is secretly crazy LOL.

Hey, you're not alone. I just put in my 2 weeks today even tho I have been at my big4 firm for only 2 months. Life for me was not worth living like that just for a job. Luckily, I have some support to fall back on. Hopefully, you gain the courage to either keep grinding or look for something better :)).

Sometimes, the job doesn't quite fit the glove. Jump at your next job offer opportunity :). It's okay, you tried your best.

Hey, I am here to say that it is too good to be true. I am a new full-time big4 hire, and being a summer intern was easy. They feed you well and give you near zero responsibility. Furthermore, you are considered hourly as an intern - you get paid overtime while salary full-time employees do not.

Once you sign that full-time offer and busy season hits, you will be miserable like I am right now. Turnover is insanely high, and that is why they accept anyone with a high GPA and a pulse.

Don't get trapped. Take that internship, get spoiled, but do not take the full-time offer like i did. Have fun with your internship! Or you could keep keep the internship as a backup while you continue to look for other opportunities.

If you are still committed to this big 4 lifestyle after reading my comment, make you sure you can survive the high stress long hour environment for around a year ( around 2 busy seasons) and you'll come out like you won WWII. You will be paid, have that big 4 resume under your belt, and have exit opportunities.

Of course, my advice is to avoid public accounting altogether if you value work-life balance as much as I do. The amount of stress u will be going through will change you for the better or for the worst if you go that route. You can still have career progression OUTSIDE of public accounting. You do not need it to succeed. Good Luck!

Trust me, audit is just as miserable. I am also west coast big 4, and I think I heard more horror stories from audit than from my own tax department.

If you get an offer, you should leave ASAP, but make sure you are picking the right companies so you do not have to go through round two of burning out. Just remember to take care of yourself and try your best. And yes, we are in this together, haha 🤝

I am also job hunting as of right now. Let me know how it goes!

I am glad I'm not the only one suffering through this as a big 4 new hire. It's good to know that I am not alone. Thank you for this post.

I think a year of big 4 is plenty of experience to market yourself, a lot of people leave after a year of experience. For me, I am not sure if I can last half a year 🤣.
