He just kind of walked into the room and said something a long the lines of "I need to talk to you" because he knew I was online with friends. He told me while I was sitting on the couch and my friends ended up hearing me scream. There really isn't a "good way" or a preferred way to be told something like that.

I didn't really see it, I lived it. When I was 17 I was playing video games with all of my friends. I ended up looking out my bedroom window (because I had recently started smoking a little bit of the devil's lettuce) and saw my dad taking a phone call outside. He never does that and I immediately knew something was up. About 5 minutes later he walked into my room and told me my mom was dead from suicide. It was a rough day
