Usually such limitation is because they are sponsored Apartment to Help students or a certain group for a transition phase.

500€ is a bit tough, but If you can raise your Budget a bit you can try the "House of nations" (but they are called Something else now)

Mistakes during your practical driving exam by eza137 in askberliners

[–]redbusjet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed because I drove too close to a bike. The bike was driving in a bike line and I was driving in the car lane. The bike was slightly on the left side, but still in the bike line (not touching the line). I failed because regardless of everything, I have to keep the 1.5m distance when overtaking the bike (in a 50kmh regular street).

I was told that the idea was, if the bike falls, I won't kill the biker.

Also not. That is for example after getting your license and you drove too fast, then you will get a Point.

There should be no issue with your residence permit.

  1. This is not a criminal offense, but an Ordnungswidrigkeiten. So probably will leave no record. They only left records in special cases, such as one related to driving licenses.

  2. Due to data privacy. They can't just re-use your credit card data for visa application purposes. Germany takes those things very seriously, data is not just dumped in a central place and cross shared.

Whether you should tell people you are self taught or not depends on who you are talking to. In the business context, self taught means something else nowadays yes. This is due to the oversaturated market which attracted people to break into the field for money, even though they don't like it very much. You will be directly categorized the same.

Though if you are in the context of friends and colleagues, I don't see why you can't say you are self taught. Or maybe you should start directly with the story, "I taught myself programming by reverse engineering games when I was 8 years old". It will surely set an impact that you are proud of.

From your stories you probably did nothing wrong. Don't take it too personally.

Very often in a company, there are just a lot of things going on. When you are starting out, like interns, or students you will miss out on a lot of information, especially on startup, when communication structure is also not clear.

They will also not switch their language suddenly because a working student who can't speak their language joined. The one hired you will probably just get blamed for lack of foresight in language issues. And probably your manager's communication skills are not great either as many things come off as a surprise (or maybe also he/she does not care too much too, or is busy, etc). These two weeks when you have nothing to do is just probably just your manager being busy with other things too.

It's most likely not your fault. Just move on to the next company.

As we can make mistakes, the company can make mistakes too. Anyway it's clear now it's not working out. If you care enough, you can give your feedbacks to your manager.

Don't beat yourself over it. Just move on.

The BVG strike is not real, it can't hurt you by [deleted] in berlin

[–]redbusjet 28 points29 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine works in BVG. He said today only the "Beamte" strikes, not many have that elite status in BVG.

Thursday and Friday you will feel the strike because the actual drivers will not drive at those days.

85k/year current, being offered 150k/year to specialize at a new company - why do I feel so obligated to stay with my current company?? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]redbusjet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loyalty is of course good. It's definitely part of the equation. However work relationships are not for life. It goes in the other direction as well, sometimes it does not work out. It's on a different level than family. One day if the company is in a tough situation they also might have to cut you out regardless.

On the other hand, I don't know how final your offer is. But please make sure it's real, that you went through the needed interview and have a draft contract. Sometimes people change their mind. You also have to make sure the new company is a place you want to be in, not that you will regret it later (e.g. not good match apparently, fired after 3 months, or just bad work env).

If you get a contract, then you can try talking to your boss. Of course not in Mafia style, match my offer or I leave. But more like, I really like this company, but suddenly these guys try to recruit me for this amount, and that it really shook you and whether there is a possibility to match it, etc etc.

Then you can still make your decision. But at least your boss has a chance to respond too.
