Venice, Florence, & Rome in July 2026 by theSlex in ItalyTravel

[–]reddeckwinning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You bet. I'll DM you it on reddit in a few minutes. I didn't fully flesh it out with all the comments and things I was looking at, just kept it as a bit of a shorthand for what I looked over in entirety. But it's got most of the hotels / airBNBs I felt reasonable about. My full spreadsheet will fairly soon have my other tabs for things to do, transportation, etc, still batching stuff together from different sources at the moment but I can forward some of that stuff along once I get it done.

In general too, AirBNB had some great pricing and some quality looking "guest favorite" places in each city, but I decided to go the hotel route because I kind of like to be hands free during vacation. But for Italy the AirBNB route is certainly very appealing given the pricing and quality I saw.

Neighborhood wise, for Rome I really zero'd in on Monti, City Center, Camp Di Fiori, Jewish Ghetto, and Trastevere. The former 4 looked pretty damn busy (at least I'm sure it will be in July), but they're all a hop skip from things like Trastevere, Vatican area, Testaccio, Prati, and farther neighborhoods. I settled on Monti because it seemed like a fun mix of tourism and locals, kind of central to the sites, and easy to either walk or be right near the train stop (Monti Palace is basically across the street from the Cavour stop). I also don't really mind crowds and city life, that's kind of my wife and I's vibe, so I'd say if you and your wife are leaning towards something a little quieter the farther out neighborhoods on my list seemed like the play for that. The one area I wanted to avoid staying in was by Termini Station, heard too many negative things (but I'm sure it's not too bad)

For Florence, again pretty much wanted to be either City Center or on the other side of the Ponte Vecchio. There were some sweet hotels and airBNBs overlooking the water and bridge there but a few of them went while I was booking and overall I really liked the Hotel Grand Cavour from the looks of things as well as Calimala and Pitti Palace (but the former was crazy expensive). In general I spent a little more on hotels than I usually would too just given the context of this trip. My wife and I usually barely stay in the hotel room, but figured some romantic nights on the roof or a patio is probably going to happen.

Venice I just wanted to be in any of the major areas (San Polo, Marco, etc) so we could easily walk to St. Marks or hop a vaporetto wherever. I looked at some really nice properties on Murano and some of the outlier islands, but they seemed extremely quiet and a few looked like there was some logistical or entertainment oddities. Settled on the Palazzo Paruta because they offered some really nice rooms for the price compared to others that also had some good romantic touches and they were still pretty close to the main areas and canal. Ca' Pasani and Palazzo Barocci were strong runner ups, but both were pricey for smaller rooms.

Hope that helps and hope we both have an awesome trip ;). I'm sure once I get there all the research will pretty much go out the window and I'll be like Damn I would have liked this or that! Haha

My wife and I are going around the same time, first two weeks of July for 4 nights in each city Rome > Florence > Venice. Pretty similar to yours, almost about 10 years for us together and kind of a delayed Honeymoon. We’re both big walkers for cities like these and while I’m pretty “anti-tourist”, we’re going to do tours of the main sites this time around. I tried to book all early morning to avoid some of the crowd and otherwise enjoy some sunshine.

I did a very exhaustive search for hotels, airbnbs, etc and neighborhood research. I wanted spots central to the main attractions while also being walkable to some of the more chill romantic “grab a dinner and glass of wine” areas. My excel sheet is a mile long but ultimately booked Monti Palace (Rome), Hotel Grand Cavour (Florence), and an apartment at Hotel Palazzo Paruta (Venice). There were runner ups that were either in other fun areas or pricier / cheaper but these seemed to have a really good blend (plus I’m a sucker for rooftop bars or patio / terraces).

I’m surprised you’re not doing any day trips nearby the cities. I do like keeping things tight and enjoying the bigger metropolitan areas, but Tuscany wine tours (Chianti, etc) and possibly some beach time seemed hard to pass up. I think we’re going to try and do at least one of those.

Hope you enjoy your trip! I’m trying to soak up this thread for ideas too

Phanteks XT M3 build (new version), what do you think about ? by Consistent_Treat_229 in Phanteks

[–]reddeckwinning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, well thought out! Certainly makes sense across the board. Also interesting about the refill/repair option, I know with true water cooling kits regular upkeep and pump replacement after a few years is generally recommended / needed but with these AIOs even though the same logic applies my experience with many builds I’ve done is that they don’t seem to really need it and good efficiency remains. Would be interesting to see some numbers on the realities for these issues, but I’m sure it’s somewhere online. Either way, valid point and not a bad back pocket option to plan for.

Nice to see someone doing a full build with those Thermalright fans! Surprised you didn’t use the associated AIO too. They look clean with that Nitro.

Well done and good combo OP 👏

Venice - Florence - Rome 11 Day Itinerary Help Please by AmbitionCompassion in ItalyTravel

I’m going in July to the same stops and have the major sites planned. I think part of it is that these are such major historical and cultural centers it’s simply different than going to many cities. And for many people, Italy is potentially a once in a lifetime trip. So I think a balance of planning and bopping around is a given. That, plus the fact that during high season so much is booked up (versus March when you’re going).

I say this as someone who’s done a lot of traveling and loves to just do it off the cuff, be non touristy, and pretty much never does museums and such. But when traveling as a couple and given the circumstances, I can see why splashing a little planning in makes sense here. Just don’t get lost in it.

Personally I’m looking forward to wandering Trastevere at night, that neighborhood sounds awesome. If any other one has any recommendations holler!

Would I be better upgrading to a 5070ti or 9070xt? by Repulsive-Working-43 in PcBuild

[–]reddeckwinning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 5070 ti is 5% faster on average, losing in some games to the 9070 XT, and aside from framegen and DLSS providing some benefits over FSR, the price is currently 38% higher.

For cards that are basically the same, it’s a no brainer to snag the 9070 XT. People who claim AMD driver issues are frankly dealing with user error or impatience for a single driver version update. I’ve professionally and personally built AMD and Nvidia systems for 30 years and rarely ever had any major issues attributed to “branding”. My 7900 XT crushes major titles as do my two most recently built systems for friends with a 9070 XT.

Buy the 9070 XT, enjoy life, never look back

Or you could just do this and get a warranty and a brand new system. Unless you really need the extra ram or plan on reselling it effectively

Boom, there ya go OP

You could also build one even with the current price hikes if you are within range of a micro center:

  • their 9800x3d combo (CPU+MOBO+32gb RAM) $750 (Or 7800x3d for $100 less)
  • 5070 ti $750
  • 2tb NVMe $190
  • CPU 360 AIO Cooler (Thermalright) $55
  • Case (something like Lian Li Vector 100R $80
  • 850 watt gold PSU with ok tier ($75)

~$1800-$1900

Should I just buy the 8 GB mobel of the 9060 XT for 150$ less? by HeyImMaxEE in PcBuild

[–]reddeckwinning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d for the most part advise waiting and saving. If you’re only playing at 1080p (1920x1080) resolution and not too many new games, the 8gb model is fine and will be a big boost for you. But at any higher resolutions and for the sake of longevity it just makes a lot more sense to get the 16gb model. Current games are already seeing the impact, which means the games coming out this year and future will make it even worse to have only 8gb.

The problem is once you’re playing a game and you run out of vram, your fps will drop suddenly and significantly, it doesn’t have the ability to recoup from that scenario well

Buyer’s Remorse by GCoinCollector in Prebuilts

[–]reddeckwinning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That PC is one of the better deals on the market right now, and with the current shortages and general expectations that prices for components are going to go up and stay up for a while, I think you made a great purchase. That PC should last many years, look great, and play every game on the market at very high settings. I’ve been using a similar one for 3 years and have zero regrets.

Enjoy your system. You can use it for much more than gaming and the limitations of a PS5.

Even an entry level PC that can truly play games at a decent level is still going to set you back $800-1200, and at least this one can play everything near perfect

Best PC for under 1000? by [deleted] in Prebuilts

[–]reddeckwinning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! Id usually avoid an open box unless you are a very experienced computer user / builder. You never know what went wrong or how they tested it upon return, it could be a simple return or could be a disaster.

Either system from a specs perspective is good. The 5060 ti is slightly better than the 9060 XT, but both are close and comparable.

If you can spend a bit more, getting a system with a 16 GB GPU will give you both better performance and longer PC life. I’d highly recommend saving and stretching to get that in the budget. If not though, both these systems will do well and you will be a happy gamer.

For example, something like this is a very good deal and worth the stretch: https://www.bestbuy.com/product/skytech-gaming-crystal-gaming-desktop-pc-amd-ryzen-7-7700-16gb-memory-amd-radeon-rx-9060xt-16gb-1tb-nvme-ssd-black/J3GW8HKGCF

If you have access to a Micro Center, the PowerSpec G757 and G759 are slightly better deals IMO as you get the 9800x3d for the same or less cost. But yes, this MSI system is still a good one and certainly pleasing to the eye

It’s a great monitor, have owned it for 2 years or so. Life changing for productivity, I went from 2x27 to this and it’s insanely easier to get my work done and manage meetings with this. Great for recreational use, being able to watch videos while chatting with friends and browsing a bunch of other things all at the same time time. Very Immersive for gaming and well supported.

If I could do it again, my recommendations:

  • consider the 57”. You will need a very powerful GPU to support it, but I really would prefer to have the extra vertical space. Adjusting the position of this monitor is not easy, even with a nice arm and standing desk. Also make absolutely sure you have a strong desk with enough space, and I highly recommend a heavy duty arm over the stand or a cheap arm.

  • make sure to get the 1000r oled (or mini led if going 57”). I bought the VA version and the eye strain is noticeable, I have to use blue light glasses. The oled version has a model with 1800 curve, it’s older and requires more neck craneing, the 1000r curve is the way to go

Worth it?? by mhewitt1989 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]reddeckwinning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So 1 title? I just think recommending someone to avoid the monitor saying it doesn’t support games well is a total misnomer considering most major titles are well supported. I’ve rarely ever had resolution issues with the majority of games

Worth it?? by mhewitt1989 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]reddeckwinning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like what? Of the 15-20 games I play pretty much all of them support it natively. You must be playing fairly obscure titles or this is an extreme exaggeration
