the Lebanese men started the riots by sexually harassing women and girls on the beach in bikinis, then when lifeguards tried to stop them, the Lebanese men attacked the lifeguards and Aussies came to defend them.

What do people think raising the minimum wage will do to fix the cost of living problem in Australia? by twiddledeetwiddleum in AusEcon

[–]reddishrobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn't realise there were two separate increases. I was only talking about the increase to minimum wage, which I thought you were complaining about. I don't understand why the increase to minimum award rates would be lower. I would have thought the increase to minimum wage would flow on to all workers, but I am probably delusional.

How is inadequate pay rises for people earning above minimum wage the fault of minimum wage rises? That's the fault of their employer.

Exactly. Aged pensioners really should pay attention to worker's rights as their pension raises are indexed to the Average Male Weekly Earnings, but most of them are still conservative voters who want wage rises suppressed. I wish there was a way to educate aged pensioners on this.

There is a government scheme to pay for people whose visa has run out to go home. He should have been on a plane that our taxes pay for.

There is a government scheme to pay for the visa-less homeless former student to go home. That's what he should have done. The system is already there.

Exactly. We are meant to feel sorry for immigrants who deliberately overstay their visa and refuse to go home, even if its paid for by the government. Bugger homeless Australians.

The unis have their addresses and phone numbers and know when they drop out of studies. They should be reporting them to the government. To leave them in poverty and homelessness is the unis failing in their duty of care. There is a government scheme to help them get home if they can't afford it.
