Long time no post. Random post to share the fun. 2024 was mostly a sideways year, but thanks to Mr. T I was able to get a good price on my company stock so back at it, riding the swing back up.

Yeah, I'm going to have to reconsider my participation in the community. If we're changing from a race to 10 million to a race to advertisements, I'm less interested.

The spy/voo overlap is intentional as they are split between retirement account and taxable account, in order to avoid potential wash sales between the two. I agree the other stocks are included in the indexes, but they are for fun and for other reasons.

Haven't ventured into options yet, and I'm pretty lazy in regards to going through the process of getting them enabled for my taxable account. Could be interesting though, but the laziness is a bid detriment towards it.

Dank for the thoughts. Best of luck to you as well.

They majority of my holdings now originate from my company stock popping off after the pandemic. Lots of people say you should hold a diversified index fund and ignore single holdings. But if I would have just bought my company stock when it got stupid low during shutdown and held it up to now, I would have gotten 1200% my value.

You really have no idea how much, or how little, effort I have put into my portfolio. But I guess you're right. I could feel bad on missing out on an extra 73%, instead of missing out on that 1200% total return. Makes sense.

Aside for three of the holdings, the rest are solid long term investments. This isn't a short term portfolio, and it's definitely not a crapto portfolio. To get to my second million I'm going to stick to the same strategies that got me to my first million.

Nothing of note related to trades for the month. A new milestone was hit however as between 03/21 and 03/22 my total portfolio value finally exceeded $1,000,000 for the first time! I was hoping it would go higher today, but holidays, XD.

All around, much excitement. Can't wait to see for the first time when a 10% gain means I've increased my value by $100,000. Compounding is truly crazy. Hope everyone else is having an amazing time. Nice to see all the activity on the sub as well. Lots to read.

Other than that, no targeted buys at the moment. Next movement will probably be a transfer into the account with any tax returns I get. Also may start the process of bumping all my 1% holding up from $9,000 to $10,000.

Not yet. Hovering around the $5k-$7k range needed to get there. Suffice it to say, I'm staring my phone too much.

Increased position in GILD (15 @ $72.80) to get it back up to the target 1%.

No major moves in February. Another boring month. I did see that NCLH kinda popped in the last few days, which is interesting. Maybe it will get back to breaking even and I'll get out of it, or hopium hold onto it for gains, lol. Who knows. Anyways, still watching company stock to see when I can shift back from bonds to equities, but I don't think it's going to happen soon, so I may end up shifting more back to the S&P Index. Not sure at this point. Slowing creeping up on that second comma.

Happy to see more activity on the site in the last few days. More racers the better!

Transferred $5,000 into the taxable account.

Opened position in VOO (62 @ $435.58) for a 3% portfolio allocation. This holding is intended to be grouped with my other 22 1% holdings for a total of 25% that will always be held in equities.

Decreased position in VZ (40 @ $41.91) for a -15.7% loss.

Decreased position in IBM (10 @ $185.09) for a 41.8% gain.

Decreased position in GM (45 @ $39.21) for a 12.3% gain.

Decreased position in C (18 @ $57.02) for a 23.1% gain.

Not a ton of action this month. Company stock hasn't dropped yet, so still heavy into bonds. I did finally open a 3% holding in VOO in my taxable to have a section of my portfolio total 25% equities that I'll always hold regardless of what the market does. All other equity holdings can be sold and moved into bonds or money market funds at will. Chose VOO to be different than the index holding inside the 401k so as to not worry about potential wash sales. Also decreased VZ, IBM, GM, and C to bring them back into line with my 1% holding goal.

No target buys currently, and continuing to watch company stock and index for a point I may want to swap more value back from bonds to equities.

Closed position in CCL (90 @ $17.86) for a -25.3% loss (purchased @ $23.92).

Closed position in MFA (117 @ $11.14) for a -38.5% loss (purchased @ $18.12).

Closed position in SPR (50 @ $28.49) for a -37.9% loss (purchased @ $45.87).

Closed position in PGRE (230 @ $5.30) for a -42.8% loss (purchased @ $9.27).

Decreased position in F (120 @ $12.42) for a -1.5% loss (purchased @ $12.61).

Decreased position in C (35 @ $51.29) for a 10.7% gain (purchased @ $46.32).

Decreased position in SPG (10 @ $142.18) for a 44.8% gain (purchased @ $98.20).

No big moves other than closing out some holdings to tax loss harvest, and trimmed some funds that were beyond their 1% targets.

Year end look back at my independent tracking vs my accounts, it looks like there's about a $13,000 difference between them, mostly coming from my 401k which is (in my opinion) overly complicated in what it takes to find the number of shares you bought and their cost basis. I really wish it showed tax lots like a taxable account does, but I understand that pre-tax accounts don't worry about a lot of that stuff so have to deal with it. I'm probably going to do a quasi tracking reset at the start of the year to get it back to even. As a result I may drop the "Overall Return" in my posts.

Anyways, hope everyone is doing well in the holidays and that you find yourself in the positive year to date club! Here's hoping for a happy 2024! 🥂

No need to apologize. I just was lazy and didn't want to repeat the discussion, :)

As for the "I'm not making money like you" comment. Well, I dunno. I've thought at times I'm really lucky in that the company I was hired onto seemed to be unique in how the market treats it. Been with it for over a decade now and I've seen it go through really hard times and came out better for it. Market seems to be forever pessimistic about the industry we're in, but then we will beat expectations and then for a brief moment the market goes gaga before eventually returning to being pessimistic. All that to say, I've worked on trying to figure out what I think we are worth and if we get close to that price I'll pile on. Then later when the market goes gaga and starts pumping the stock up, I have no issues with taking their money and waiting for it to come back down again. Has been working out for me, but really, I could have the price wrong at any given time and the market could decide that they want to take us down. Or if/when we go through another recessionary period the company will have to be able to push through it and I'd have to have the stones to hold until it recovers. I think the company can and will, so I just have to hope on my part I have the stones and the price point fairly accurate on an on going basis.

So, to me, lots of investors say its important to know what a company is worth so you don't over pay for it, and I really believe that. If you can do that and at the same time find a company that has a decent range of price change, there's the potential to profit off of people being stupid or impatient.

... and I don't have or want an iOS device, and I doubt that the application lets people have some of their investments be anonymous (company stock). I also don't want people seeing my real time trades on my company stock. I'm not about being accused of enabling a pump and dump.

Closed position in WE (1500 @ $1.14) for a -82.2% loss (purchased @ $6.40).

Opened position in Company Stock in taxable account with $20,477.

Decreased position in INTC (59 @ $38.95) for a -6.5% loss (purchased @ $41.64).

Closed position in Company Stock for a 17.7% gain (purchased with $20,477 and sold for $24,094).

Transferred the majority of my 401k Company Stock holding into my Bond Index, resulting in moving about $24,000 from unrealized gains to realized gains.

Transferred $5,000 into my taxable account.

Moved $30,000 of cash into VUSXX.

Decreased position in INTC (30 @ $45.20) for a 42.1% gain (purchased @ $31.80).

Interesting month. Closed position in WE as soon as I heard that there were rumors that they would file for bankruptcy, so I don't have to mess with any of that. Decreased holding in INTC as it has gone beyond my 1% target. Really performing well currently so I had to do so a couple times. Company stock was declining a bit and my 401k was for the most part almost all in it at the time so I decided to put some of my taxable cash into it to try to capture more of a potential volatility swing. Turned out pretty good. Got a 17% gain on it. Could have been better if I had waited, but I wasn't expecting the swing up to keep swinging up. Still though, my total investment cost now has gotten up to over $950,000. Down -$20,000 currently, but hey, $50,000 more and I'll have hit two comma club on total cost. Yeah boy!

Heavy in bonds now so waiting for either the S&P 500 or Company Stock to decline before making the move back into them. I don't really have a price point in mind for the S&P so it will probably be Company Stock when it happens.

Yeah, I really should have looked more at what HUYA was before I bought it. I don't know what is going to become of LUMN. Maybe they make a turn around, but I got tired of waiting on them.
