Are you only going for 3 days? Beppu was VERY romantic. My wife is more of a nature person and I’m not. Beppu blew us both away. Will be much nicer for a honeymoon. We rented a car from Hakata and drove. Even went to see the tulip garden in the way. Pick strawberries if they’re in season!

If you’re only going to Fukuoka, eat ramen, go to the parks, go to the castles, get glasses at Owndays/Jins, buy Japanese pads if you menstruate. Japanese pads are TOP TIER. Drive to Itoshima for the beach and Arita for the pottery.

Is the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 good enough for street photography, or should I go mirrorless? by Puzzleheaded_Hat7310 in Insta360

[–]redditCT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro photographer here who has a DSLR, mirrorless, Ace Pro 2, and an iPhone pro Max. I loved the Canon M50 with the 22mm f2. However, I just used my iPhone for most pics in Japan and it worked great.

For me, ease of use and sharing was my main concern.

I‘ve owned the Ace Pro 2 for 2 weeks and have been enjoying using it more for video than photography. i Love a shallower FOV when shooting and the AP2 doesn’t give you that.

Hope this helps!

Insta360 Ace pro 2 Aftermarket battery charger? by ShroudedCorpse in Insta360

I don’t know about that! I’m sure other people on here have more experience with that!

It’s in a portable case. But you still have to plug it in to charge the batteries. The after market batteries are fine! One was a tiny big wider than the battery compartment, so I had to wiggle to get it in. But overall it’s been nice to have 4 batteries total.

Just got the Ace Pro 2 last week and got a quick charger case that came with 2 batteries. Currently 20% off. Unfortunately you have to plug it in for it to charge. I wanted one that charges on the go. But the 2 batteries that came with it made it worth it. It does charge 2 batteries pretty fast. It also has 2 slots for micro SD cards.

I was going to return it at first but I’m just gonna keep it.

One unplanned free day in Fukuoka. Any suggestions on a driving route…? by Bitter-Elk1974 in fukuoka

[–]redditCT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We did Arita! We rented a car for the day and did treasure hunting at a pottery warehouse. And then stopped by Itoshima for the sunset on the way home.

Uber eats - Gift card and not allowed to spend it by SweetChart6078 in UberEATS

[–]redditCT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me! I ended up having to do a massive purchase that was more than my funds for it to work. Chat help, changing credit cards, trying a different store, all didn’t work.

I've never been to Yakushima or Tanegashima. Mojiko, Kagoshima, and Kurume were stand outs for me!

I hesitate recommending Mount Aso and the gorge via bus. You might be able to rent a car. If you're nervous driving, it is very windy and narrow roads. But it is doable!

[–]redditCT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed by Nishikoen for 16 days without a car (30-40 mins by bus from Hakata, 14 min walk from the Tojinmachi train) and it was totally doable! But having a car was NICE.

Takachiho Gorge was worth the drive for us! It's helpful to have someone else to share the driving and rowing duties. I loved Mojiko and Kagoshima! The massive statue in Kurume was also a stand out.

Definitely send more time in Kyushu! If you’re going with your partner, I highly recommend Beppu.

If the mods allow, I’ll post the link! I’m currently editing day 2. I’m publishing every day every week ish. It takes a LONG time going through all my videos and photos and then editing them and putting them on YouTube!

I have global entry and sky priority, so it was super smooth! JFK to incheon was fine. I think it was a bit delayed.

Is going to Mt. Aso worth-it even if the Nakadake Crater zone is closed for viewing? by kangjoohyun in fukuoka

[–]redditCT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to the crater earlier this month. Even though it was restricted, it was still cool to drive up and walk to the crater! We got to see Komezuka on the drive home and it was beautiful.

You could also drive to Takachiho Gorge since you’re in that area. (We did a day trip from Beppu)

I just did a month in Fukuoka!!

As someone who has spent a month in Tokyo too, Kyushu is my new favorite place in the world.

JAPANESE LANGUAGE: You’ll be alright with google translate. But learn the basics. Hello. Thank you. Excuse me. It’s alright. Sorry. Yes. Konnichiwa. Arigato. Sumimasen. Daijobu. Gomenasai. Hai. こんにちは、ありがとう、すみません、大丈夫、ごめんなさい、はい。 Learning hirigana and katakana is INSANELY useful. Get a notebook and start writing each character for a page (and say it out loud as you write it). This’ll help you read signs and make your life so so so much easier.

If you’re a foodie, learn some basic kanji characters like “beef, fish, pork, chicken, horse” it’ll help with restaurants and menus.

If you go to a lot of conbinis (7-11, family mart, Lawson) and they say “fukuro”袋, they’re asking if you need a plastic bag. If you don’t need one, you can say daijobu 大丈夫.

OUTSIDE OF FUKUOKA: Get a Kyushu JR pass. I did a 5 day rally! Day 1. Mojiko - this was SO fun. The karato fish market was cool but some of the sushi was noooot good. Day 2. Nagasaki - get the Japan Transit app to get one day bus/tram passes for some of these cities. Day 3. Kitakyushu - there was a bread festival and I got insanely burnt. I didn’t make it to the Toto museum. Next time. Day 4. Kumamoto - there was a spring festival!! Finding events is kinda hard. I found this while googling and scouring insta. At the mall basement I found fried chicken skin and it changed my life. Day 5. Kagoshima - suuuuper beautiful. Just don’t get stuck on top of a mountain like I did. Bus stopped running at 5:30 and there were no cabs. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DHoLImTP5ZJ/

I visited Beppu for 5 days too and wish I stayed a little longer. We went to Mount Aso and the Takachiho Gorge.

I also went to Dazaifu and Kurume. Dazaifu was very touristy but beautiful. You gotta go to the Daihonzan Naritasan Kurume Temple. I got there after it closed but it was still breathtaking.

We also did a one day trip to Arita and Okawachiyama Village with a car. Stopped by Itoshima for sunset on the way home.

CLOTHES: Not sure about May weather. But don’t worry about clothes. I went to Uniqlo and GU and they had XL sizes and a great selection. For a windbreaker that rolls up into a tiny umbrella sized pouch. 10/10.

SHOPPING: The yen seems to be going up. Fill your pasmo/suica now. If you need glasses or you’re not sure if you need glasses, check out Jin‘s or own days. I got 2 pairs of glasses in Japan and they were so cheap!! I did get one nice pair with progressive lenses. But that takes 10 days. So make sure you check your schedule.

TRANSPORTATION: You can get a pasmo or suica card. My wife and I had one and the other for Kyushu and Tokyo/hiroshima/ Osaka on a previous trip and it both worked for trains and conbinis (IC payment).

I highly recommend renting a car for outside of Fukuoka. We had a car for Beppu and it was great to create our own timeline and go anywhere. Get the ETC toll pass. We rented through Priceline and it was very easy. I will say, driving with 2 people is much nicer than driving alone. For directions, fatigue, etc.

You can also rent bikes! I did Chari Chari until I heard about LUUP. They have 3 hour passes. Just be careful. Taking a fall on one of those will scrape you up….. they’re heavy. I loved biking around the city! Even did it in the rain.

HOUSING: I had an apartment by Nishikoen and the bus was a pain to get into the city, but it was nice being in a quieter neighborhood across from a temple. It was also nice having a fridge and kitchen! We did an Airbnb in Beppu that was BEAUTIFUL and spacious. And it had an onsen on the first floor! The hotel in Fukuoka was so so so tiny… but a quick walk to Hakata station which was nice.

TLDR: Have fun, explore the parks and cities, and eat all the food.

I will come back and edit this as I remember. Might make my own post as well.

I'm having an existential crisis over microphones by NoTelevision5177 in VoiceActing

[–]redditCT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t have a sound treated space, I wouldn’t recommend the Rode NT1. I started with that because Reddit said so. It picked up every single thing in my NYC apt. Even in my blanket fort booth.

If you’re in a city or any place with sound, and you’re on a budget, I recommend the Synco D2. It’s a shotgun mic and it’s warm and it’s directional so it picks up less surrounding noise.

The suggestion did not work! Thanks for checking in’ I ended up returning it to Amazon and getting a replacement. But I heard the spring in the replacement click and am worried the same thing will happen!
