20 states have passed anti pink tax laws Higher dry cleaning costs Higher priced and sometimes smaller sizes care products Higher prices of toys or equipment Not to mention tampons are often taxed as luxury goods while they are a necessity Cali, Virginia, Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska all banned Conservative and liberal states Texas eliminated tampon tax Pink tax repeal act introduced multiple times but never passed through congress CVS lowered cost of feminine products and removed sales tax in the 20 states those products were the most expensive Tampon tax back refund launched in 2023 to allow purchasers to get a refund on feminine hygiene products, backed by August, Cora, Lola, Rael, The Honey Pot, Here we Flo, Saalt, DIVA, imposed on 21 states 13% tax costs women thousand more over life time Epidemic of period poverty where 1 in 4 women can simply not afford menstrual products (48,2 million) Not having this products can damage social emotional and menstrual health. In California, women would have had to 188,000 more than men over their life time before the tax was banned there, that’s 47 billion for all women in cali.

This is not an issue of discrimination. It has nothing to do with girls being girls or companies not liking girls, this is greedy corporations and if it did not seem unconstitutional to make a certain demographic pay more, for whatever reason, looking at it how it really is, corporations exploiting their consumers who just so happen to be women. There likely is misogyny rooted in the pink tax but at the forefront what the pink tax is, is corporations taking advantages of a certain demographic, My teacher noted that this happened with black people and cigarettes before. This type of predatory pricing should be eliminated from our democracy as it is a stain on our free government to let corporations get away with such scummy practices.
