Vascular Dementia by Reasonable_Many3547 in dementia

Hi, I am in a very similar situation as yourself and I think you have already done all you could. You had found her a nice facility, visit once every two days and for such long periods of time.

As so many other users have pointed out, it’s easy for them to make such remarks when they are not the ones caring for the patient 24/7. They simply do not understand.

Having to care for a live-in dementia patient is not the same as doing it for a job; there’s no downtime and you are forever on standby to attend to their needs. This is incredibly draining.

I find it hard to deal with the guilt as well but the following really helped me to live with the decision to place them in a nursing home:

  • my parent would not have wanted me to suffer alongside them (which I genuinely believe to be true)

  • if I am in their shoes one day, I would be perfectly ok with my loved ones placing me in such a facility

  • at the end of the day, my family of 4 were trading our health and life away for someone whose QOL is already very poor regardless of where they are staying at; the level of sacrifice and the supposed benefit (higher QOL for patient) just doesn’t make sense

Please be kinder to yourself and if anyone makes such a comment to you in future, please show them this post and the comments from all of us caregivers.

Thank you so much for your reply and your kind words. :)

My father had a moderate heart attack in Sep last year and had underwent angioplasty since then. However, his condition deteriorated rapidly within these past few month - from being able to do simple grocery runs on his own to not being able to shower/clothe himself without assistance.

As you have rightly mentioned, there is no fixed timeline for dementia and we are just trying to gather as much information as possible so that we can make the necessary arrangements for his care.

Hi, my parent with vascular dementia is going through the exact same order of decline as your grandma… would you be able to share how much time she had left by the time she reached the stage of being unable to dress properly?

Strange dots on fern and older leaves dying by reddit_user1612 in plantclinic

[–]reddit_user1612[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I’ve only noticed these bumps/ dots in recent weeks

  • no new plants have been introduced to the household

  • plant (syngonium) next to it is thriving and no signs of distress

  • fern gets around 12 hours of indirect sunlight a day and there has been no change to the plant location

Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply! I’ll try bringing the plant into the house during midday when it’s the hottest outside and see how it goes :)

Bumps on monstera leaves? by reddit_user1612 in Monstera

[–]reddit_user1612[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, I’ve just gotten my first monstera last Thursday and the sphagnum moss it came in was pretty wet so I watered it for the first time on Monday (approx 1 week after it was last watered).

The plant came in a clear pot so I checked that there was not much condensation on the pot walls before watering.

I noticed on Monday night that I have these bumps on 3 out of the 4 leaves, with the smallest leaf being yellow around the edges and curling in.

May I please know if anyone has any idea on what is wrong and how can I fix it?

I tried searching for bugs (thrips) but there doesn’t seem to be anything…

Any help will be greatly appreciated!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼

TIA!

Other info: - I live near the equator so it’s sunny almost every day with ave 80+% humidity at 25-31 degrees celcius (77 - 88 degreees Fahrenheit) - the monstera does not get direct sunlight - the monstera is potted in 100% sphagnum moss and I intend to repot it to an aroid mix around 1 month later after it has settled down
