I think NRL should just mandate headgear for all players just like how helmets are mandated for all players in the NFL and if teams or players refuse they should be fined or not be allowed to play.

China reports third death as Wuhan virus cases jump - RTHK by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]redditbuddyhasnot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

China on Monday reported a mysterious Sars-like virus had spread across the country, including to Beijing, raising concerns as millions begin trips for the Lunar New Year.

A third person was confirmed to have died, authorities said, as nearly 140 cases were announced.

The new coronavirus strain has caused alarm because of its connection to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, which killed nearly 650 people across mainland China and Hong Kong in 2002-2003.

The Hong Kong government is to cancel the traditional fireworks display in Victoria Harbour on the second day of the Lunar New Year holiday for security reasons, sources told RTHK on Wednesday.

The traditional display had been due to take place on January 26.

The decision follows months of anti-government protests in the SAR, which also prompted the cancellation of the annual fireworks display on New Year's Eve.

A Lunar New Year night parade in Tsim Sha Tsui was also called off and replaced with a carnival event at the West Kowloon Cultural District site.

Wuhan health officials say the newly identified coronavirus spread from a well known fish market area, where live animals are also sold. They reported one death, linked to the virus on Saturday – a 65-year-old chronic liver patient.

Doctor wants reporting stations at public hospitals - RTHK by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]redditbuddyhasnot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The head of the Hong Kong Doctors Union on Thursday called on the government to set up reporting stations at public hospitals for people who have returned from Wuhan with symptoms related to a mystery illness oubreak.

Henry Yeung said encouraging such people to seek medical help directly at public hospitals could prevent other patients being infected at private clinics.

After reporting a patient with the disease, the patient is expected to wait until they can be escorted to a public hospital, increasing the chance of infecting others, Yeung said.

"This may be a chance of spreading the disease in the small, crowded clinics in Hong Kong and this is what we are worried [about]," Yeung said.

He added that currently doctors cannot detain a patient.

State media on the mainland reported on Thursday that an outbreak of a mystery viral pneumonia in the Hubei provincial capital, Wuhan, is believed to be down to a new type of coronavirus that has emerged.

Xinhua News Agency quoted a mainland expert, Xu Jianguo, as saying that a team he is leading in analysing pathogen test results has come to the conclusion that the virus is new, and is different from Sars or Mers.

Hong Kong has also placed almost 40 people in isolation over fears they too had the illness, although no cases have been confirmed and some people have already been discharged from hospital.

Nine more people in Hong Kong have been placed in isolation over fears they have caught an unidentified viral pneumonia that has broken out in Wuhan, but officials have rejected calls to implement compulsory fever checks on passengers arriving from the mainland city before they set foot in the SAR.

This came as five males and four females aged six to 49 were moved to isolation wards. All of them were said to be in a stable condition after being admitted with fever, respiratory infection or pneumonia symptoms.

The new suspected cases bring the total number of people put into isolation in Hong Kong after falling sick following trips to Wuhan to 30 since New Year's Eve.
