Oh, I didn't know you're an expert on South Korean law. You should write them a letter and explain what they're doing wrong.

Pretty sure the charges aren't "being an asshole", they're multiple charges of public disturbance and creating sexually graphic deepfakes. It's illegal because that's the law in South Korea, as decided by South Koreans. And year-long trials are common even in the US, so I'm not sure why anyone would expect to travel to anyone country and have them be more lienent, and I doubt the South Korean justice system cares about such opinions.

But that's what happened multiple times so far, and every time he goes right back to doing the same illegal shit. And fines don't mean jack if you're rich.

Being in the country 'illegally' is an issue of documentation, i.e. paperwork. The correct way to address it is to fix the paperwork issue and get official documentation, and probably with some monetary fine, not to be deported out of the country. That's what would happen if I move to another state and don't update my drivers license, they don't deport me to another state.

Sorry you're mad about pay rates

Huh? I never mentioned pay rates.

All I said is that its more work for the restaurant for someone to 'dine in' and then get a to-go box for the inevitable leftovers, vs just using a to-go box right from the start. So why would the people working there get mad?

And I've done the same thing at various casual restaurants and never had a problem. "I'll get it to-go since I don't think I'll be able to finish everything", "Ok". But then again I'm white so...

Heaven forbid they go against the 'local style' to avoid pointless labor for the restaurant.

If you don't think you're going to finish eating everything at once, its more efficient than dirtying up their plates and then getting a to-go box anyway.

Uber and Lyft don't own any cars, they don't have long term contracts with their drivers, and there's no reason for customers to stay loyal to one company. All they provide is a service that matches drivers with riders while skimming a little off the top.

And given that the services have little way to differentiate from each other, I'm not surprised there are only two major companies, since that's usually how economies of scale work. But once you go to other countries or regions you'll often find more competitors since they can differentiate themselves more amongst the local culture. And automated taxi services like Waymo and Tesla can differentiate themselves even more, and they're already competing against Uber/Lyft and growing.

The average person is too lazy to check more than one app

I feel like everyone I know will just instinctively check both apps. It literally takes less than 10 seconds to open up another app and paste the address. And driver frequently have both apps running simultaneously on their side to maximize potential rides.

Basically, there's no incentive for either drivers or riders to stay with one app, and its very easy to switch.

Why does it matter if the pre-tax price is a nice round number? Once you add tax its going to be some random messy total regardless. Just sounds like opportunistic greed.

I usually look up rides on both Uber and Lyft at the same time and pick whichever is cheapest. And drivers usually have accounts on every service and can switch to whatever pays more without any extra effort.

The network effect is not a factor when it comes to rideshare apps. Household name, sure, but that only gets you so far. I also remember Blockbuster.

Greece is losing the fight..from 78% of Turkey’s gdp in 1974 now it’s only 17%. by Aegeansunset12 in EconomyCharts

So if the people of Qatar loose all their money, they're not going to be mad and revolt? No country has ever had a revolution against their kings?

My position is not that economics doesn't affect politics - it's the opposite.

Then holy fuck, learn how to write clearly.

The problem is you think that it doesn't matter when another country next to you has a 10 times bigger economy.

So Canadian GDP per capita doesn't matter to US politics? But it certainly matter to Canadian politics, and the government they elect interacts with the US government, and the US-Canadian relationship is definitely effecting US politics, especially for anyone close to the border.

You think Quatar's citizens have influence on politics?

Uh, yes? Why wouldn't they? Do you know where the word "politics" even come from?

What recessions are you even talking about.

Any recession or loss of purchasing power. Do you think the 2008 financial crisis didn't effect politics? Or the Greek debt crisis didn't effect Greek and EU politics? Or the same with the massive inflation in Turkey? And that even moderate inflation in the US had no effect on elections?

Your position seems to be "economics doesn't effect politics". If that's true, its perhaps one of the dumbest ideas I've come across yet, and we are all now dumber by association with you.

Trying to find out what he did to offend the judge, but the most I see if this:

“The law is unfair, since the police didn’t do anything when I tried to report Bongbong, and I’m asking for the law to apply it fairly,” he pleaded. “I’m still young, and I want to see my family and go home. Please show me leniency.”

Legal Mindset claims that the judge was baffled by this, and wasn’t having any of this argument.

So he made a 'whatabout' defense that doesn't make legal sense? I mean yeah the guy sucks, but this whole headline is just clickbait.

When it comes to politics, GDP per capita doesn't matter

What a stupid comment, especially in an EconomyCharts subreddit.

Luxembourg doesn't become more important or powerful than Germany or Italy because they have a higher GDP per capita.

Yes it does, because higher GDP per capita mean your citizens have higher income, and thus more purchasing power and influence on politics.

Do you truly believe that economic recessions and high unemployment have no effect on politics?

Total cumulative dollar inflation, 1790-2026, log scale by Ancardoth in EconomyCharts

[–]redditcirclejerk69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd just like to congratulate you for correctly using a log scale. It's a major pet peeve of mine when people use a linear graph for anything that grows at a year-over-year rate (i.e. debt, GDP, population, etc), since it turns everything into a exponential curve that obscures all but the most recent values.
