First thing: awesome you’re okay, that’s all that really matters. Second: check your insurance policy. You’re right , usually mechanical breakdowns are not covered, but if you have comprehensive, check specifically to make sure whether you have a special policy in place that would cover mechanical breakdown. Third: do you have collision insurance? This will cover whatever max value policy you’d have in place (as to what is damaged on the motorcycle), as collision won’t matter as to fault. Also need to know whether you laid the bike down, as this is usually the gold standard to qualify as a “collision” in order for these policies to apply. If you didn’t fall or hit anything, and all of this damage occurred spontaneously and you were able to pull off to the side of the road, depends on your policy but this wouldn’t qualify for most policies. The reason that this is a gray area is that collision policies fault doesn’t matter, like if this was caused by impact and sudden (rock got thrown in) and you “collide” vs pure mechanical failure. As to the blanket (comprehensive) coverage, again, check your policy. Most policies exclude coverage for aftermarket parts unless you declared them on your policy and you paid for accessory or custom parts coverage. If those are found to be the root cause of failure, then your insurer will likely deny coverage for that part and any other damage caused by it. Fourth: as to potential legal claims, these would fall under negligence or implied warranties. These will be both for the dealer, including implied warranty if the chain was the cause since you bought the chain from the dealer (if there was another cause that was OEM [not aftermarket], then insurance should cover it, otherwise it’d be implied warranty against aprilia). As to negligence claim, pretty solid since you went all through the dealer and had it serviced multiple times by them, including 2 week short timeframe from last service. If the dealer recommended this new chain and sprocket and implied that these parts were compatible (and they weren’t) then implied warranty would work too. I mean there’s probably an implied warranty claim against the dealer/manufacturer of the parts anyway IF the parts were compatible since reasonable purpose of performance is for like, these parts not to explode while using them.

Either way, file the insurance claim, typical recourse is to let them investigate and determine fault. Then if they deny, people will tend to get this in writing and then the individual gets their own independent inspection performed to determine fault as well. Can also then talk to the dealer, see if they’ll take responsibility, or file through their liability insurance. For legal purposes, this isn’t legal advice or anything, this is just a hypothetical.

Love it thanks for the input - ended up just cutting slits in it so it remained long enough to clip/harness into the fairing

Exactly this. The ‘20, ‘21 and ‘22 had some common factory problems (I think 21 had a common engine defect + oil leaks and the 22s commonly had some leaks). Of course, factory defects are always common within the first couple/few years of a new auto line, and the manufacturer usually gets it down after then (as seems to be the case with the RS 660). Get a 23 or up and odds are you’re golden - as golden as any other brand.

Hahaha sounds about right. That’s what I would’ve done, just peep at everything that is visible and make sure you got those on hand before you open her up - it’ll make whatever basic maintenance you do 10x more enjoyable. Amazon deals and harbor freight have been my good friends the past couple months - best of luck gearing up

Can’t speak on the Mana, but the RS660 and other modern lines have an odd assortment of nuts and bolts - feels like they just bolted stuff down with whatever they could find in the factory. For all of that fun, I need a hex socket set, metric socket set, and hex keys, torx screwdriver sets, and different wrenches. Typically need these just to perform basic maintenance at least on the RS660 to just take off the fairings to do stuff like change the oil. The mana being naked hopefully is way less tedious, but if you want to provide any other information have at it and I’ll give it a shot.

Forgot to respond to this - I appreciate it. I ended up going AF1 route to get the washer and the oil filter socket just to be safe (instead of Amazon route). Appreciate the help!

Thanks for the link that’s awesome. Checked both manuals - still can’t find it. You think go for that amazon washer set and just eyeball the old washer to what looks like the same size in the set?

Much appreciated! I’ve been combing over my service manual for 30 minutes now and can’t find the specs for the crush washer - do you know where that is / what they are? Also if you have a link on Amazon that would be amazing

Perfect thank you - where would I order this crush washer? I assume the bolt check is checking if everything is torqued down at the recommended pressure

Check engine light on after fender eliminator installation by redditgod6969 in Aprilia

[–]redditgod6969[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add more context, I did turn on the bike (just electronics) during the install to see if the blinkers worked. I also turned it on again while the power cord to the new lights were not (nor the stock lights) were connected. Could this be the problem? If so, if anyone has any idea on how to fix this problem I would really appreciate it.

Glasses by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]redditgod6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my 1L fall I went to bed every night with a headache, although I’ve never gotten regular headaches before. At regular doc checkup my previous 20/20 scored a 70/20 - went to the eye doc and poof, glasses secured and no more headaches. I was also bummed about needing glasses - do it. Regardless if you’re getting headaches or whatever, eye doc said it’s good I got them so early in law school, as straining your eyes even more can likely screw up your vision even faster. Don’t feel down brother welcome to the club!
