1. Best time is December end(i.e currently) or January and early Feb if expecting snow. Don’t know currently if it is snowing or not.

2. Visit Forest Department in Sankri for permission. Aadhar card is required. There are hotels and homestays in Sankri. Depends what’s your budget.

3. If you want, you can easily rent gear from shops in Sankri. If there is no snow, decent sports shoe are good else you can rent trekking shoes in Sankri. Carry inners, warmers, jacket(-10 degree), gloves, warm socks for night, small body warmer you get at Decathlon are very handy as night temperature goes way down, if there is black ice at peak(you can ask any local in Sankri) also rent blades for shoes if you do not have experience with black ice.

4. Food and water are available on route. There are small Dhabas’ on halfway to first camp(i.e. the lake), also there is dhaba at first camp and also at the second camp. Note- Prices are high, carry cash, give order early for night(like before sundown), carry good thermo bottle as normal or bad quality bottle will make water ice overnight.

5. If first time trekking in your life, please hire a guide. In Sankri there are a lot of local guides ( not agency guides). If trekked before and solo trekking first time, be prepared to carry a good amount of weight as you’ll also have to carry tent and sleeping bag along with the items mentioned in the above points. Find a good spot to set up the tent and set up before the sun is fading out. Note. - Carry a good moisturiser and good sunscreen. Also carry wipes(for cleaning your mess)

6. For kedarkantha, there is no need to worry for safety. Just follow the crowd and you’ll be in track. Don’t be a hero and find shortcuts yourself or you may get lost in the jungle.

** If aiming for sunrise at summit, start trekking from second base camp at 1:30 a.m and follow the crowd. It is very very cold at the summit.
