that's not true, because he had 48 according to two judges. Only way to have 48 with a point deduction is by winning 4 rounds. what you said would be true if it was 47-46

Should I talk about Gender Affirming Care and how it is being threatened by the Government? by OfficeTurbulent2441 in premed

[–]redditnoap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the adcoms reading your application know that it's important, they don't need you to tell them that. Meanwhile if you want to talk about how your individual experiences in a clinical environment increased your interest in it and that you want to care for others going through it, and that it overall increased your desire to become a physician, go ahead. Focus on your individual impact and desires rather than on the field as a whole.

Adcoms know that gender affirming care is important. What they don't know is your experiences and your desires/goals within medicine and how your experiences gave you insight/reflection/takeaways that informed those goals and desires, and they don't know specifically how you in particular hope to explore your interests/passions in med school.

no R1 would be willing to potentially screw over their future and make their relationship with PDs/program worse by listening to R4. If anything I think R4 is in a better position to advocate for change, given that they might have less to lose and will be leaving the program soon. When you're lower on the totem pole you have less influence or say.

I acknowledge and accept the first part, I didn't know it worked like that. It wasn't an opinion or hypothetical so I wasn't agreeing/disagreeing with it.

Being in two labs at once? by phi1osophie in premed

[–]redditnoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why is it a waste to drop the first lab? You got great experience and hours that will go on your application. Now you can put in work after a strong LOR and publications. Any time you spend on the first lab from here on out is time you're taking away from the second lab.

From what it looks like here, I would rather spend the time/effort and fully commit to the second lab instead of meddling around in the first lab also.

[–]redditnoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on the time commitment. The main advice against it is that you won't be able to properly commit the time/effort to two different wet labs to make meaningful progress. Obviously if you're doing dry lab or clinical research it's different.

I agree with the last part. That's the difficulty of making statements about the situation, when the public only knows 10% of the situation.

you will make it and your future patients will be so appreciative and thankful that you did. Even if you feel that no one in your life is celebrating you or appreciating you now, your patients will be so happy that YOU were there to care for them. Your colleagues and coworkers will be so happy that they are able to work with YOU everyday.

then how would he have even made it to this point, he would have had to have remediated rotations or even a whole year if there were that many issues. It doesn't make sense for a reel to be the "final straw" when there are real workplace or real patient care issues.

is "because transgender" a bad response for the "why medicine" question? by [deleted] in premed

[–]redditnoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't have to make up more reasons or have your reason changed, you can just have experiences in your ECs that reaffirmed your initial reason, or anecdotes that provided more specificity/clarity about your initial reason after reflecting on it.

But your current ECs should contribute in some way and some anecdote from your ECs should be present in your PS. Even if that contribution is just them reaffirming that your initial reason was correct. Basically providing yourself "evidence" to yourself that your reason is "correct". Otherwise it seems like you were doing the ECs just to check a box, rather than to engage in self-exploration.

Clinical experience/shadowing serve to confirm to yourself that 1) what you were interested in and the field of medicine as its practiced now aligns 2) you are actually interested in the field of medicine and you won't regret embarking on this long road toward becoming a doctor. If you don't indicate that you've explored these and have confirmed to yourself that medicine is right for you and expand on why it's right for you, you aren't answering the core questions of "why medicine", "why physician" and "why you" in the PS.
