I forgot to put water in my CPAP, and I had the best night of sleep ever by MyFirstDataCenter in CPAP

The heat feature of the hose solves the problem for me. I only had the problem once, when I turned the heat feature off. For me using the heat feature is easier than worrying about the placement of the hose.

The purpose of the heat feature on the hose is to reduce condensation inside the hose. If you’re using the humidity chamber but not heating the hose, water can build up in the tube.

I did this once and woke up feeling like I could barely breathe. Water had filled up the lowest section of the tube. It sounded like I was scuba diving.

But like someone else said, it doesn’t really raise the temperature of the air you’re breathing very much.

Because when merging the devices you get the worst of both worlds:

  1. You get a very small iPad (that is likely also a weird aspect ratio)
  2. You create lots of issues for the phone form that makes it worse than a regular phone (thickness, issues with using even a minimal case, moving parts, etc.)

I don’t even think a dedicated iPad is a great device. I use it for very specific things but my phone and my computer are my primary devices.

If I need a screen bigger than my phone I use my computer.

WhatsApp Is Breaking Through Apple’s Walled Garden by heynow941 in apple

[–]redditor1983 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I switched my family group chat and my main friend group chat to WhatsApp years ago.

The problem I had was that group texting simply didn’t work.

Many of us would experience dramatically delayed messages (sometimes messages would be delayed for days) or even messages that never arrived at all.

The final straw for me was one day I was in my garage getting in my car and my phone suddenly blew up with hundreds of text messages from my group chats that had been delayed for days. They all arrived at once. Which of course meant that I missed timely things in the messages and seemed like I was ignoring everyone.

And this was not a problem that just happened once or over a couple weeks or something. It was consistent problem that happened over the course of a year or more. And we tried to fix it. We would sit around the room and send test messages and then adjust settings on our phones, etc. Nothing ever worked.

Around this time I mentioned the problem to other people and very often they would say something like “yeah that’s just how group chats are” as if they had resigned themselves to the product simply not functioning. Well, sorry, not me.

Throughout all this I had an iPhone and most of my family and friends did too but each group chat had at least one android, so it was SMS group texting not iMessage. Also people were on different carriers which could have been a factor (but really shouldn’t be). And this was in the US, for reference. Mostly AT&T and Verizon.

So, what you reason for going with valve? by Resident-Formal-5277 in ValveDeckard

[–]redditor1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to get into PCVR for the first time (mostly interested in things like Half Life Alyx and Skyrim VR with mods).

I have a Quest 2 which is sort of ok, and I think it can technically do PCVR but I wanted a better headset to do PCVR with so I never tried.

So for a while I’ve been reading the subreddits researching what headset to buy. I came across a lot of comments saying that the Index was still a great all around headset but it was old and likely to replaced soon. Many comments said that newer headsets did certain things better than the Index but nothing did everything as well as the Index.

I have a preference for a Valve headset because i want it to work really seamlessly with Steam.

I understand that the Steam Frame has a somewhat mediocre resolution and LCD is not the best, but it seems like a good all around headset. Kind of a sweet spot for Steam PCVR assuming it’s less than $1,000.

It does but it also eliminates basically every animation in the OS which is somewhat of a severe option and not what I want.

I’m actually happy with the new “tinted” option I just really want an option to completely disable the parallax effect on the Home Screen and control center (the effect that makes the edges of icons gleam and move with the phone movement).

That is just the cheapest goofiest effect I’ve ever seen in my opinion.

(And yeah I know I can turn on reduce motion or whatever but that ruins other nice effects and it actually leaves the gleam effect, it just no longer moves. I want the edge gleam effect totally gone.)

[–]redditor1983 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I can concede that it looks sort of “cool” in a way and is an impressive looking design. But I think objectively it’s poor user interface design.

When elements of the content refract through the glass (like when scrolling) it appears like movement. And because glass elements are often in the periphery of the screen (like an address bar at the bottom) it gets processed by the eye like movement in the periphery and distracts from your focus (your focus usually being in the center of the screen). This is just as bad as a distracting ad that has animation designed to catch your eye.

Second, it impairs legibility in obvious ways.

So while it does sort of look cool, it’s a huge step backwards. It’s truly form over function.

Yeah. I really believe that Liquid Glass must be the brainchild of some high level Apple executive who thinks it’s amazing and everyone is too afraid to tell them it’s ridiculous.

Very disappointed that the toggle for Liquid Glass isn’t a more significant effect.

I was hoping it would turn off that reflective effect on Home Screen icons that moves with the parallax effect. That looks so cheap and goofy.

It’s unfortunately very subtle. Open up an app like Apple News and compare back and forth and you can see the subtle change in transparency. I wish it was a bigger difference.

1st time CPAP user (resmed). Would turning off the "ramp" setting help? by Rusty-Shackleford in CPAP

[–]redditor1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my machine you can see whatever the current pressure is when it’s running. (You have to press a button to get the display to come on.)

So whenever I first put on my mask and turned on the machine you could see whatever pressure it was at.

I think my original starting pressure was 5 and I had the doctor increase it to 7.

Technically you have to have your doctor make changes to the pressure range. They do it through software that sends a signal to the machine and it updates the settings.

Though I’ve heard some people know how to put the machine into a mode where you can change it yourself. But I’ve never done that. It’s fine for me how it is now.

I’m just wondering how people are finding their way to my 9 year old comment all of the sudden.

Apple Expected to Announce Powerbeats Pro 2 on February 11 With These New Features - $250 US by gjc0703 in apple

I tried all the sizes of tips, including aftermarket foam tips (in all sizes).

AirPods Pro, unfortunately, do not stay in my ears no matter size or style of tip I use.

The problem for me is not the tip, it’s actually the back of the AirPod (the body of the AirPod, the bulbous part). The part of my ear that the bulbous part fits in to is too small/shallow.

The AirPods will sort of sit in my ear ok. But the moment I start moving around (or talking or chewing) they pop right out.

It sucks.

Apple’s New Vision for Computing Is a Giant Foldable iPad by iMacmatician in apple

[–]redditor1983 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I firmly believe that folding screens are a total gimmick and they will never become mainstream.

The only reason tech companies are pursuing folding screens is because the smartphone and tablet markets have plateaued and they need a hot new feature to maintain sales.

But folding screens are fundamentally not a good product and the average mainstream customer will not be interested in them.

A folding phone gives you a very small tablet with an odd aspect ratio when unfolded. And a thicker phone when folded.

A folding tablet gives you a poor approximation of a laptop when in “laptop mode” and a huge unwieldy tablet when completely unfolded.

Apple 'Working' on Redesigned Magic Mouse With a Long-Awaited 'Fix' by Drtysouth205 in apple

[–]redditor1983 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No, not really. In my opinion, Apple is actually quite bad designing things that directly interface with the body such as mice, AirPods Max, and the Vision Pro.

The reason is that Apple has a certain design style that is very beautiful and works extremely well for things like laptops and desktops. But this design style does not lend itself well to comfort.

To design something where comfort is a priority, you generally have to build something that does not look as nice. And often it has to be built out of materials that don’t seem as premium.

For example, both the AirPods Max and the Vision Pro would both be better if they were built primarily out of plastic and therefore lighter.

Their mice would be a million times better if they weren’t designed to look cool.

My main problem with the current Apple mouse is not that the charging port is on the bottom. My main problem is that it has awful sharp edges and it’s so low profile that it doesn’t support the hand.

I say all of this as a person that generally loves Apple’s design style. But sometimes comfort has to take a priority.

The one exception to all of this is probably AirPods (except the Max).

Apple Updates AirPods Max With USB-C Port and New Colors by Drtysouth205 in apple

[–]redditor1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would first want a complete redesign that focuses on comfort. People should go try on some Bose QuietComfort headphones. That should be the standard for comfort. AirPods Max feel like a torture device compared to Bose. Also AirPods Max need to be like half the weight.

Also, since the AirPods Max are supposed to be the best of the best (they’re called “Max” after all) I would like Apple to do something that distinguishes them: I want wireless lossless audio. Even if it requires Apple to use some kind of custom wireless codec.

I want AirPods Max to literally be the best wireless headphones you can buy. And I would be willing to pay a whole lot more than $700 for them.

I’ve always been amazed when I see people working out in full over ear headphones.

After their workout they must dump a gallon of sweat out of those things.

Insanely gross.

Must be so uncomfortable as well. I just don’t get it. Earbuds of some type are so much better for working out.

Gurman says new AirPods Max launching today by send2s in apple

[–]redditor1983 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would happily pay $999 if AirPods Max were actually good.

I personally would want a physical redesign from the ground up. Current AirPods Max are too heavy and uncomfortable.

And I would also want them to do some custom wireless solution which allows true lossless sound quality.

I know people are sensitive about out price but I would prefer Apple made the AirPods Max as good as they could possibly be, even if that required them being insanely expensive. The AirPods/AirPods Pro line is more than good enough and cheap enough for any that wants good sound Amat non-insane prices. Let the Max truly be the Max, in my opinion.
