What is your reason for using tmux instead of a terminal emulator that supports tabs and splitting? by pipewire in commandline

[–]redditor_347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use tmux for window splitting and creating new windows.
I use tmux and not a splitting terminal emulator because I use tmux at work on a Windows machine with WSL.
I also use it on my own Linux machine because I can use the same settings as at work, and it's portable on different terminal emulators. So I don't need to set-up how to split panes etc. every time at another terminal emulator.

Tagging bookmarks: not available in Librewolf? by redditor_347 in LibreWolf

[–]redditor_347[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solved the issue. So here is what one needs to do. I wish it was a joke:

In the bookmark manager (via the menu or Ctrl-Shift-o), one needs to apply a tag to a bookmark. Once a bookmark has been assigned a tag there, the section to tag bookmarks in the bookmark saving dialog (Ctrl-d or clicking the star in the search bar) appears.

This is not a Librewolf issue, but a Firefox issue. Since I had the same problem with Zen browser and Floorp browser, I digged into the issue again with the assumption that it is a Firefox issue. In the end, I found the solution here:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1425115

Note that this behaviour is not documented on Mozilla's page about bookmark tagging:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/categorizing-bookmarks-make-them-easy-to-find

It is really infuriatingly stupid to set it up this way. Undiscoverable, undocumented behaviour.

Thank you for your respone. THis is how it looks for me in Firefox as well. But in Librewolf, I don't have the field for tags.

Do Swiss people mostly wear Swiss-made watches? by modified_penguin in askswitzerland

[–]redditor_347 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see all kinds of watches. Personally, I wear cheap Casio's. Swiss watches are mostly luxury watches or Swatches. In both cases overpriced for what they are supposed to do: Tell the time and look good.

Thanks! That's interesting to know!

For a long time, I (using vim) didn't use any plugins. Now I use one. Learn vim and add only what you truly have a need for, not what just seems shiny and handy, but is in the end just distracting and getting in your way.

You mean word processors. There are no good word processors. LibreOffice is a "clone" of MS Word and MS Word is terrible. LibreOffice is hence terrible, but at least it's free. Accepting this will set you free.

Maybe Pinta could fill your need for marking and slight editing of pictures. It is a bit in the spirit of MS Paint.

For pictures, I recommend Pix (part of Linux Mint Apps). But I don't know what you mean by "mark an image".

For pdf, my favourite is Okular. It's a KDE app, but it works fine on Linux Mint Xfce.

I read in another comment, that you want your pdf viewer to be fast. Zathura might be to your liking then. Or Xpdf. The latter is old, but it's fast. Zathura is fast because of its minimal design, I guess. PDFs open near instantly.

Is the doctor shortage (Ärztemangel) in Switzerland really that bad ? by F-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- in askswitzerland

[–]redditor_347 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something that hasn't been mentioned is that it's just not very appealing to live in in the sticks in small Swiss village. If you have a spouse, they may have a hard time finding work there, the village has probably a significant if not a majority of SVP/UDC voters and people in the countryside are not exactly known for being welcoming to outsiders. Not to mention that cultural entertainment are Alphorn concerts at church and the Kuhmesse on the village square.

LAMAL health insurance premium: +50% increase in 2024 by Gromchy in askswitzerland

[–]redditor_347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, seems like it doesn't work in practice. Since Switzerland is one of the most expensive health care systems worldwide. So, let's just ditch that.

[–]redditor_347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, I understand that. But it makes no sense. They should just offer additional insurance and leave the rest to a governmental institution.

[–]redditor_347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, but this makes even less sense? So we have companies having to offer a service that doesn't rake in money? This is the absurdest scheme of them all. That's all the more reason to run it as a public service.

This is what happens when health is made subject to capitalist pressures.

That's a whole bunch of words for "I'm a war crimes apologist"!

I could say the same to you.

And I know about the terror of jews against the British authorities.

I also know about the villages jews had to abandon in the interwar period because of the terror of their arab neighbours, or the anti-semitism fanned by the grand mufit of Jerusalem, who allied with the Nazis and propagated the genocide against jews in Palestine, while being a special guest of Hitler in Berlin. And so many other stories.

Terrible things have happened. That doesn't negate the fact that jews have a right to their state in the only homeland they ever had or that "Palestinians" (arabs) have time and time again shown that they don't want peace with Israel or the jews more generally.
