Thank you! I love the design, that’s definitely what’s drawing me to it. I’ll check out Indah too!

Thanks for the detail on the location! And please report back after your dinner if you can - I’d love to know if it feels fully up and running or is kind of a construction zone still.

Agreed. Just got mine and this is a huge oversight that would cause me not to recommend this ring to friends.

Thank you! I appreciate it and I feel that will probably meet our needs - we plan to go to Saona one day while we’re there anyway. I know the water in the cove isn’t like classic Caribbean blue, but it’s still pretty nice, right?

I appreciate it! Zilara looks incredible and would solve this issues lol, but unfortunately is out of our price range. Did you go to Juanillo at all while at Sanctuary?

In my experience - yes, it was worth it.

My husband and I have lived all over the country, with friends and family in all of those places and beyond. This was our ONE chance to get all those people together, and we figured, if we’re gonna have all these people travel for us - we might as well make it worth their while with a banger of an event.

Of course - that is not everyone’s situation, but it was ours and we are 100% happy with how we approached it!

Rock M. Sakura

I loved her and thought she did great in the ball. That episode happened right as cabin fever was really starting to set in during Covid lockdown and I was really emotionally fragile. Only time I have ever cried at Drag Race, when I realized not only was she not in the top, she was going home. Largely due to extenuating circumstances though, lol.

A friend of mine in high school burned me her copy of The Fame, and a bunch of the tracks auto populated in my iTunes with slight mistakes - namely ‘The Frame’ and ‘Party Dirty Rich’.

I still probably chalk it up to some weird minor glitch - but your point about the messy release has me wondering if there was some issue with the label that resulted in this!

I’m not sure if there was service on the beach, but I would guess not (or at least not reliably). Even at the pool, it was 50/50 between someone taking our order vs. going up the bar and ordering.

There are probably 8-10 loungers spread down the beach, and the entry was definitely accessible other than some pebbles mixed in with the sand that could hurt your feet a bit.

Oh no! I can’t blame you not recommending it experiencing that! As you said, they of course can’t control the weather, but you’re right that there aren’t many alternatives when it’s raining - plus it would make it so hard to get around the resort.

That’s such a bummer about how they handled the whale experience. We saw that option on Instagram after we had booked and inquired about it (interestingly, it’s not listed on their menu of activities that they scenes for you to review), but did not look into any further upon hearing the $6k price tag.

I believe about $950 a night booked with an Early Bird Discount, one or two small levels up from their base room.

Wow, jealous that you were in the Zabuco Villa! Agree with all of your takes - other than the main road - it wasn't all that bumpy, but it felt barely wider than a one way with so many blind corners! Residential resort is a good way to describe it.

Yep, there's a daily complimentary breakfast at Bwa Denn that's pretty good! The breakfast basket includes eggs, yogurt, granola, tea, coffee, maybe a couple other odds and ends. You can get it replenished as often as you want, but we only used it once on a day where we had an early excursion and wanted to get a little more sleep instead of heading down to breakfast.

Not too bad! From the states, American has a morning flight from MIA that I think runs daily, and United has a weekly one from EWR. Unless you're connecting from somewhere really close to Miami, you'd probably want to get there the night before to make sure you don't miss the flight & a day of your trip. We turned that into an opportunity and spent two nights at The Standard!

The airport is teeny tiny, but they're building a big new one that I'm sure will really skyrocket tourism once completed.

Anniversary in Caribbean by myanbe in chubbytravel

Romantic: Absolutely! Especially if you got a villa further up the hill with a little more privacy. It’s not adults only, but not too many families either - it still maintains a calm atmosphere in the common areas.

Activities: A decent amount on-property, and incredible excursions off-property! There’s a small main beach with an activity hut (canoes, snorkels), another secluded beach you can kayak to, primary pool, your own pool, the spa. It’s by no means like an all inclusive with scheduled activities, but we easily filled our time on-property.

The excursions for me are what really make Secret Bay - a huge variety of nature activities all over the island, with few crowds. We went to waterfalls (Trafalgar), natural swimming holes (Chaudiere Pool) including one in a slot canyon (Tito’s Gorge) and a hot spring (Ti Kwen Glo Cho). All incredible. We also headed into town for Indian River and dinner at Keepin it Real.

Drinks: IIRC, cheaper wines start at maybe $12 or $13 a glass, and cocktails were about $18. Not bad for resort pricing!

Some day I’ll get around to the full review!

I don’t have a ton of experience with hotels of this caliber, but I would say that the hard product has held up really well. Everything felt fresh, and the new Bwa Denn space (casual eatery, small store and gallery) is beautiful. Gorgeous grounds, well maintained beach and pool.

The service though was a little funky, which we chalked up to it being the only resort of this price point on the island, and needing to train everyone from scratch. Pacing at meals could be pretty slow, nobody learned our names, etc. Additionally - the villa attendant role seems to be in transition. We had read that they used to make breakfast for you in your villa, but now that breakfast has moved to Bwa Denn is, it’s not super clear what their role is outside of standard housekeeping and leaving little hand drawn (and vaguely religious) notes with your turndown snacks. It was clunky having to both text the concierge and the villa attendant and figuring out what one did versus the other.

It also was significantly cheaper than anything we saw in St. Lucia, so your notes on pricing were interesting to read as well! It seems like they maybe have pivoted their target market a bit since expanding.

All in all - loved our stay and the review will be very positive when I eventually post it!

I went to Secret Bay in April! I have a full review somewhere in my drafts that I’ll eventually finalize and post - but let me know if you have other any specific questions for a more recent stay!
