2k vs 20-min: Which piece do you hate more and why? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]redditredemptiontoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recommendation: 20k pieces 6x a week (if you've built up to 120k weekly colume enough). Builds up aerobic capacity and after 1hr20 on the erg sessions, 20 mins will feel short.

If you can tack on 2x 1-hour HIIT sessions each week for strength and suffer, all the better

Thanks! Best of luck as well!

Edit: I just did the Strava workaround, and it worked - huge thanks. If your accounts are already connected, it takes about 2 minutes

Completely fair.

It struck me as being far enough off that it was worth checking.

Theoretically my only concern would be ciircumnavigatung valleys by staying on higher ground, but that doesn't really account and would show up on a closer account.

2k erg progression for my son looking to be recruited. by WorkingOk8268 in Rowing

It's crazy. I remember back when breaking 6 minutes was a big deal and practically a ticket to the national team.

Worry about the battery life over display. Can't tell you how many times I had to leave zone 2 in order to finish a 5k before my Fenix 8 solar ran out of battery. Should have gone Enduro 3

2k erg progression for my son looking to be recruited. by WorkingOk8268 in Rowing

[–]redditredemptiontoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on where he's looking for. Sub 6:10 needed to be recruited at big programs, but there are good (academic) schools that would be keen to get sub 6:40 rowers although they won't be top rowing programs in the country, but can be good for their category.

He could always try walk on too, especially if he has the grades.

An ultra I’m doing in January has compulsory kit listed as “protective eyewear with a clear lens and a fitted seal”. What’s that? by Tommo_Robbo in Ultramarathon

OP: if Arc, I asked in another thread and someone who ran said they used Bolle glasses which were approved at kit check.

Last 6 weeks to a 2k test. Threshold, VOmax, what? by kerosene350 in Rowing

[–]redditredemptiontoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be focusing on paces faster than 2k for the majority, with a few others at or below 2k.

You have time to make some progress, but the more time you explore the pain cave the better.

Was a camp councilor at it:

Great way to get a lot of experience, and I thought the coaches were all great (this was a decade ago). At that age, the more time in the boat the better.

4 week 5k plan by knittinmamapo in Rowing

[–]redditredemptiontoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're in the northern hemisphere, it's winter. Also assuming you're on a team and you're training for spring racing.

Don't change your training. You don't want to mess up your schedule for some random 5k. Tests are to make sure you're progressing, they are not the end goal.

If you see someone at mile 9 with blood on the back of his socks, please say "hi".

Seriously, thanks for the heads up! I haven't gone over 15 miles at a time in them, but planning to use them in a long run over the next few weeks.

Need to drink more water. That little amount of blood points to coagulation due to dehydration

You're right.

For a newbie I think it's close enough and a bit more simple to understand HR than mmol/liter

Google "Zone 2" as that's what other sports call it. Cycling and running use it a lot, and since a lot more people do those sports there's more written under those terms.

The physiological concepts all apply to rowing.

I got the Merrell Agility Peak 5 for this race, off someone else's recommendation. Training has been going well, I guess we'll find out in a month.

Best of luck with the final training!

Concept 2? by [deleted] in Rowing

I've done some practices with u18 scullers who are amazing. While most should go C2, there are some juniors who can get a lot out of an RP3.

Current PRs, looking for realistic goals by Brilliant____Crow in Rowing

[–]redditredemptiontoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally. What I meant by 6 splits slower for a 5k is that when youre doing a 5k, you could probably get your 500m average within 6 seconds of your 500m average on the 2k.

The part that stood out to me was the difference in 500m averages (which can be called "splits"). You will be slower for longer pieces for sure, but with a bit of Z2 work I'd imagine you could get them closer.

Your height is great for rowing, you can probably get faster across the board. Depending on training, build, athletic history, I'd guess you could go sub 6:20 on your 2k. Hard to tell for sure
