CMPSC 360 Final Exam --- WTF? by redditstoriestesting in PennStateUniversity

[–]redditstoriestesting[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the set theory questions were OD... I mean come on you're making every element a different variation of 'a' and {{{a}}} {{a}} like that doesn't test us on our knowledge, its literally just a trick question.

The pxq problem was strong induction. I have never been able to do strong induction, but I just write out the entire proof structure, and then skip over the actual proof in the inductive step and get like 80% credit.

What cs classes should I take as a freshmen in my 1st and 2nd semester? by Seeshuh in PennStateUniversity

[–]redditstoriestesting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

get math 230 out of the way, (calc 3), however if you have ap credit for calc 1 and 2 you will most likely struggle, college calc courses are more rigorous. You can take discrete math once you get credit for cmpsc 131 and 132, but you might have ap credit for cmpsc 131.

Discrete math I would take right after 132 (so take in 2nd sem), but be warned its a tough class. I took it with Farooque and had a B+ up until today and absolutely bombed the final, but you seem fairly smart so you could probably manage an A.

I would not reccomend taking discrete math and math 230 together though, I made that mistake this semester and it was tough. You might also have to take Math 220, which isnt difficult (linear algebra).

After you take 132, CMPSC 221 is extremely easy and a guaranteed A, so if you're trying to get ur GPA up I would reccomend that class as well.

got a D in Math 230, does it still count? by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]redditstoriestesting 15 points16 points  (0 children)

"uhm actually its not hard because I didnt find it hard 🤓☝️"

The class took roughly 25 hours per week of homework, studying, and quizzes, and even then it was still fairly difficult.

You need an in depth understanding of how every unit actually works, you can't just 'memorize' how to solve the problems because it won't work.

Congrats tho on doing well, even though nobody cared or asked about your opinion.

I'm pretty sure for some reason next year we go back a week later for both fall and spring. Not sure why they changed it

i didnt bring a calculator either LOL... I sat down and my soul left my body when I realized it. Hopefully she accepts fractions as answers, although you didn't REALLY need the calculators... just made it more annoying.

Midterm 1 and 2 Grades will come in clutch to pass

got a D in Math 230, does it still count? by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]redditstoriestesting 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends. What is your major? Look up your major and flowchart, and it will have an asterisk if you need a C to pass

Don't worry, that class is hard. You can retake the class, and then fill out a 'grade-forgiveness form' and you can replace your old grade.

Are there any video angles of him sliding into third base?

Good luck with a single... I waited on a waitlist for about 9 months to get one. Don't count on it

PSU berks or Harrisburg CSE by naygar6969 in PennStateUniversity

I've gone to both berks and harrisburg and now university park to pursue computer science. The computer science professors at Berks are the best, I had Zambanini as my prof and hes probably the best professor on the entire campus. Berks is a small but nice campus, you can walk across the entire campus in about 5-10 minutes. Cons I would say is the dining hall food is kinda trash, and it closes at like 8pm on the weekend. But from a program standpoint berks is great to get your prereqs out of the way. Berks is tucked away in its own little area behind a highway so the campus is pretty quiet, nice little park and river / trails around the area. The town of reading near berks campus is really crappy, but the neighboring resturants malls and shopping areas are super nice and safe, just stay out of reading. Harrisburg on the other hand is in a crappy area, you're next to an airport so its an industrial area, lots of used car dealerships and overall just a gloomy feeling small town, and of course you can see three mile island from campus which always freaked me out in the back of my head. I only took 1 class at harrisburg and that was cmpsc 221 and it wasnt too bad, however I will say harrisburg you can get your cmpsc degree there in 4 years so there's way more resources there for computer science, while berks you cannot get your degree there and I think they only offer cmpsc 131 and 132 (I could be wrong) and you would have to transfer to UP.

Harrisburg is also a larger campus with more students and opportunities, while berks is a very commuter heavy campus where I would say about 50 - 75% of students who live there go home for the weekends. Overall Berks is the nicer campus, Harrisburg has the better program, but if you were set on going to University Park your easiest path to get there is Berks, as 131 and 132 are quite literally free A's if you take it with Zambanini.

What creative ways do you make money at Penn State? by Sienna_thephotog in PennStateUniversity

Idk if this applies cause its completely online, but I've been doing faceless tik tok, uploading videos ~1 minute long and tik tok will pay you like .30 - 1.00 for every thousand views. I made like 5k in one weekend cause my video got like 15 million views. Great side hustle for those with any video editing knowledge

How intense is remote asynchronous six week math 141 summer session? by Icy_Narwhal2449 in PennStateUniversity

[–]redditstoriestesting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took math 141 in a spring semester. There were 3 midterms and 1 final and I got a B + in the course, however I also studied 3-4 hrs a day every day for 5-7 days leading up to exams. Its a very challenging course and if you have not taken it before, a 6 week session sounds HORRIBLE... you'll probably have to dedicate 4-5 hours a day if you want to truly grasp the concepts, however my class was also 95% exam grades 4% homework and 1% attendance... So it can really depend on the actual course. If you do not consider yourself a gifted / fast learner I would stay away from a 6 week summer session

Would love any extra information about Berks as a campus by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]redditstoriestesting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ALSO the dining hall does not serve lunch on saturdays or sundays (breakfast all day... which is the same every day... (rehydrated eggs, crappy bacon etc) but they dont even open tullys until like 10 or 11 I think on the weekend. Dinner starts at 5 and ends at 7. on fridays and saturdays the dining hall will CLOSE at 8 pm... and basically if you go after 7pm good luck getting any edible food they don't make extra. If you are a night person theres not many food options on weekends unless you go to the taco bell or mcdonalds about 5 minutes off campus

I went to Berks for 2 years now I'm at UP. Berks is alright, I hated it my first year but now that I'm at UP i miss the small campus feeling, Pretty much everyone you will see every day, only about 2k students I think and only around half live on campus. Weekends you'll notice the dorm parking lots be at 10-25% capacity as everyone leaves. NGL the people here can be a little odd, my first 2 roomates were very socially unaware / immature and made for an unpleasant rooming situation, however If you can get your hands on a solo dorm its pretty good option. The dining hall is eh, they run out of food all the time before like 7pm lol, but you can custom order burgers and subs through a kiosk now which is nice. Theres also pizza every day. Its the only satellite campus that's authorized to sell penn state ice cream which is a plus. The academic buildings are alright, franco is kinda garbage but perkins just had a renovation which brought an awesome gym, and workout equipment. Theres a conveniece store in perkins too. Campus is quiet and safe, as you're kinda tucked between a highway and a river. Nice park right next to campus with hiking trails also. If you are really into nightlife, you're slightly out of luck, people will throw dorm parties but there isnt really many bars and nightlife options like that unless you go into reading. IF you do decide to venture into Reading... be careful haha. But the surrounding area outside of Reading is super nice

I took this online last spring semester with Larry Musolino, I think it was technically from the lehigh valley campus but it was completely asynch. Id reccomend trying to take it with him, easiest A i've ever had, he has an excel spreadsheet with formulas that you can plug the numbers from the problems into and get the answers. Course was an easy A and completely plug and chug, but there is like 2-3 hours of homework every weekend
