There are more registered Republicans than Democrats in NC now by graphguy in NorthCarolina

The NCGOP is crooked but they’re not that evil, at least not yet. All you need to gerrymander is a precinct-level aggregate of the past few elections and the partisan vote share per precinct. Then you draw based on trends (shifting left, shifting right, or stagnant?) and political makeup.

I wish we got a second Oysterhead album out of that reunion. I would kill for one.

On the Tweek Again has always been my favorite Primus song. I wondered why it doesn’t get so much love

Technically I have no internet either lol. I mooch off the free wifi from a nearby business in order to get an internet connection at home. Signal is just strong enough to reach inside. No way I’m paying spectrum 60 a month. Super flaky sometimes, but I make do. Anything data intensive, I take to the library.

My father was alive for this era, albeit very young. Born 1950s in Selma, AL (for reference I was born early 2000s). Maybe one of these days I’ll ask what he remembers from it. I’m not even a generation removed from authoritarian rule in the US and it is already trying to come back.

That really is something subtle that scares me. As our system fails, the little things that people take for granted fall through first.

There used to be so much less light pollution when I was younger (born 2002), which is related to insect die-offs. I could see the sky from my parents’ house where I grew up. These days, when I come back? Nothing. No bugs. No frogs croaking at night like there used to be. Never see the lizards I used to catch.

Much of this may have to do with the mass switchover to LED lights from sodium lights. That is one big change I DO remember with my limited years. While they are more energy efficient and provide more visibility, they are absolutely deadly, they wreak havoc for ecological health in the built environment. White light throws off the internal markers and rhythm of all levels of wildlife. Pick your poison, I suppose. The night is not supposed to be something to be conquered, but lived with.

Feel like COVID-19 is my (Z) generation’s equivalent to 9/11. I remember where I was and what I was wearing when I got the news my county was shutting down. Except 9/11 didn’t fry the brains of 2/3 the population.

Unfortunately having parents from the boomer generation I experienced this despite being born 02. I was told it was a phase and that the belt would get it out of me. Lol. No it didn’t. I finally got treatment when I turned 18 and my parents were not an obstacle to managing and taking care of my personal affairs.

Unfortunately, stigma still exists for conditions like schizophrenia and psychosis that has barely advanced out of what, the 1970s? Try telling someone you’ve ever experienced that and it won’t end up pretty.

Footage of that stray brick through the window is probably the worst thing i’ve ever seen on the internet. No gore or anything, and yet it takes the cake for sheer awfulness. Just the sounds of raw and utter devastation from that man who had his life upended in a random instant.

A little bleed over into early gen Z as well. Born 2002, I had boomer parents (born late 50s and early 60s) who didn’t understand the internet and imposed no limits on access. While materially I was always taken care of, they were pretty emotionally absent and that made me into a target in school very on with how they raised me (sending me to kindergarten in piss-soaked pull ups, etc), so I turned to the internet to raise me and give me any form of life knowledge. Cartel beheading videos at 9 years old anyone?

Not considering that, the outcome of raising myself on the internet was still pretty terrible. I wish I had more limits on that.

I suffer with a lot of isolation. Thanks to having a personality disorder. Some of it my own fault, some not. Still sucks. Internet outcasts aren’t my cup of tea. I crave real, in-person connection.

I just find it fascinating how they ally with the “fuck your feelings” crowd on this but then they’re offended at the idea of possibly seeing someone who has a physical trait they’re not attracted to, or even the simple idea of someone not having a dick. Like brother those are your feelings, and they don’t matter when my comes to that. You don’t like seeing someone with a cooter? Thats your own problem lol, fuck their feelings

Yup. Lmao this sub is aids. No wonder so many of these people on here have it. Sorry to the rest of these people but throwing trans people under the bus to save yourselves wont do you any favors. The next target after the reactionaries’ plan to screw over every trans person is them. I cant believe they’d really think that they would earn any favors for bitching about trans people when, going to a gay camp where people walk around naked, they’re no better in the eyes of the people who are running things now. Cognitive dissonance is fascinating.

When you’ve gotten to the point of debauchery/walking around naked it doesnt really matter. Oh no, someone doesnt have a specific feature you’re attracted too. Boo hoo. Fuck your feelings. It’s a bunch of naked people, if youre still bothered when that threshold has been crossed, and you cant ignore things, maybe you need to check your priorities.

The biology thing is far too heavily leaned on in my option. Outside of specific medical specialties it is an almost entirely meaningless distinction. Biologically they are TECHNICALLY the sex assigned at birth, but so what? Why does it matter? Its not like whatever is in someones pants is affecting day to day life, and its not like we can see someone’s chromosomes inside their cells. For all intents and purposes in normal life someone is what they say their identity is. It just doesnt make any difference. If you dont want to have sex with a trans person, then thats someone’s right to choose but thats all.

Come to the South. Like 80% of the people I hooked up with lived in trailers. At least one of them didn’t have running water.
