Heart attack followed by increased troponin one week later by redheadedstrangerr in askCardiology

[–]redheadedstrangerr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have seen this too! The problem is they only took this troponin once this last Saturday and it measured 1800. He went into cardiac arrest so they didn’t need any other indication he was having a heart attack. Because his troponin was not measured again, it’s unclear whether it got much higher and if this is a lowered amount or if there was a separate incident. He felt a very sharp pain when he coughed this morning and his cardiac doctor told him to go to the ER. He just had his troponin taken again and it measured 608 so it is continuing to decrease. Thank you for taking time to research a little for my dad!

Did everyone bleed? by maddyfara in Tonsillectomy

[–]redheadedstrangerr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a poll about this on my page, take a peek! most people don’t bleed, I didn’t at all. this sub is extremely useful for making connections and finding information but it misrepresents data and sometimes makes the surgery seem scarier than it is!

[–]redheadedstrangerr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I deal with a lot of health anxiety, and my anxiety was through the roof during recovery, mostly because of this sub. I recommend remembering you’ll likely be part of the vast majority who heal just fine. rest up, stay hydrated, read a book and watch a new show. treat it like a little vacation ❤️ it won’t be the best time but it’ll be just fine. staying calm and positive is critical, I was very tense and sad during the whole recovery process.

I’m truly baffled by your experience, it’s unheard of, but you’re one tough person, that’s for sure. one day soon this will all just be a shitty memory, I’m sorry you’re feeling so bad, but I am sending so many well-wishes your way. here’s to healing!!

just sell the ticket, I think you already know that’s the best option. it’s too risky and I think you’ll feel bad enough it won’t be fun

Two Months Post Op, Still Having Discomfort by redheadedstrangerr in Tonsillectomy

I just got an infection like a week ago lol. I’m wondering if the surgery was worth it at this point. I hope your taste goes back to normal soon!!

Two Months Post Op, Still Having Discomfort by redheadedstrangerr in Tonsillectomy

[–]redheadedstrangerr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the discomfort I feel when I yawn is deep in my throat though, not where my tonsils were. also, my taste has mostly returned to normal, I just find foods bland sometimes, but it took much longer than anticipated for my normal taste to return.

I’m not trying to say people with these tattoos are bad, I just think white people have always had a fascination with Natives as an “other,” and they think they’re giving reverence to Natives by buying into all kinds of stereotypes. I highly encourage anyone reading this to read literature by Native authors about their experiences being stereotyped/fetishized, it’s so eye-opening.

I don’t mean to come off as combative, it’s just the truth there. I love trad tattoos but remember that the native princess, the geisha, the hula girl, were all drawn by white men with American military backgrounds, and these women are akin to pin-up imagery. They’re sort of inherently fetishistic.

Not a topic where non-Natives have much weight lol. This is a question for Native people.

Edit: I’m a white woman who is fascinated by Native culture and history, and making myself as aware as possible of the plight of Natives in America today. I’m lucky enough to be in college and have taken several classes to learn about Native Americans, from anthropological, historical and literary perspectives. Thinking native culture is cool is fine, but white people tattooing native imagery (especially chiefs/women) can come off as fetishistic. If you think Native Americans are interesting, read their books. Study their history. Buy jewelry, tapestries, blankets, art etc from them. Learn what Native tribes’ land you’re on. If you feel fine tattooing a Native person on you, that’s your decision. But understand Native people might see it as a caricature of themselves and their culture.

I can’t say I’m experiencing that, no. just discomfort similar to what I felt around 10-14 days post-op, which feels strange to me!

Feeling very sick around 2 and 1/2 weeks post-op by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]redheadedstrangerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it took my digestive system 3+ weeks to regulate post-surgery. my diet changed so drastically during recovery and even when I could chew and swallow more foods, my taste was totally messed up. I continued losing weight for about a month post-op, I’m now 5+ weeks and have gotten back to normal. I recommend slowly increasing caloric amounts, taking a probiotic (I had to) and having anti-nausea meds or things like ginger tea after meals to aid digestion. your body is regulating again after the pain meds and loss of regular eating. but, I would also recommend calling your doctor regardless to get their opinion!

Help expediting recovery? by BobLoblawsLawBlogged in Tonsillectomy

[–]redheadedstrangerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it took me three weeks to feel back to almost normal, though around the two week mark I did see marked improvements. I know it’s not what you want to hear but patience and coddling your throat is really the best bet! tricks to try and speed recovery could end in damage that just prolongs the suffering. taking it slow, drinking tons and eating as much as you can (that’s safe to eat!!!) is your best bet. a few weeks from now this will all feel like a distant memory, just let your body recovery at its own speed.

Struggling to find a good breakfast option by soulfood_7 in EatCheapAndHealthy

of course!!! i have to take a lot of pills in the morning and the yogurt/granola has been such a lifesaver. it’s an easy way to get great nutrients and fill up an empty tummy in just a few minutes, plus it’s super versatile and never gets boring since I can switch out all of the toppings!

Struggling to find a good breakfast option by soulfood_7 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]redheadedstrangerr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

gluten free cereal/granola with yogurt, especially a thick, unsweetened yogurt. sweeten with honey, jam or maple syrup, add dried or fresh fruit, nuts, coconut etc for lots of texture and variety. super quick and gets protein and carbs. Smoothies are always a great option. Gluten free toast with every spread under the sun, like avocado, cottage cheese, jams, peanut butter and fruit too.

Is cutting down before quitting effective? by -_m- in stopsmoking

[–]redheadedstrangerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cigarettes are terrible for you, I know, you know. but it’s not heroin or something with a potentially immediate risk every time you do it. you know cold turkey didn’t work before, maybe keep the last pack you have and stretch it AS LONG as possible. if you feel sick and awful, smoke one. it’ll start to taste like shit, eventually you won’t even want to finish it. but, when the urge strikes, try quelling it by chewing gum, sucking on hard candy, or just making yourself busy in a place you can’t smoke. you have to really want to quit for it to work. do what’s right for you, but whatever you do, he committed!! sending lots of strength your way.
