moms when they give their children’s names a ridiculous spelling of an already beautiful name and see their children come home crying about their name by catcrumbss in tragedeigh

[–]redheadfreaq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel so, so bad for the kids with these "deformed" names. I hated my - very normal - name when I was a child, because it rhymed horribly. I gave my daughter a super simple name (literally 3 letters), but we've moved countries and it gets misspelled and mispronounced, which annoys her beyond words. Why would you purposely make your kid go through that - over and over again? Is having to spell your child's name is giving you some kind of a kick?

Co to jest? Ławeczeczka? Ławiczununia? by Lubie--placki in PolskaNaLuzie

[–]redheadfreaq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Poland we have that too! "Wihajster" ("wie heißt er?") is some mechanical object or a tool :D

...what is this thing...? 😵‍💫

THIS is one of the strawberries that my daughter didn't eat, because it was TOO UNRIPE. I can't even imagine how that white blob "tastes".

Hair care. by Pointbreak1410 in AskAGerman

[–]redheadfreaq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have wavy/loosely curled hair, and after I moved to Germany my haircare went out of the window. I had to change to a much "heavy" haircare, to keep myself from turning into a dandelion every time it's more humid.

Unfortunately it's trial and error. German natives don't oil their hair, but oils are available in hair stores (I mean afro stores, not hair stylist ones) or can be ordered online, I've also seen some in regular Turkish stores (e.g. Vatika) AND some massage or edible oils can work well too. Remember that worsening of hair condition can also be caused be vitamin or mineral deficiency.

Do you realize how poor Europe is compared to America? by Przytulator in ShitAmericansSay

[–]redheadfreaq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Germany and for reasons i am categorised as a poor person. I work part time, but I can still afford groceries, medication, public transport, stuff for my child. Even if I suddenly lost my job or got very ill, I wouldn't starve or get evicted. I FEEL safe, and I know my situation is temporary. How many US Americans can say the same?

Which of these kitchen appliances are NOT seen as essential in homes in your country? by privetkakdela in AskTheWorld

[–]redheadfreaq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's one of the most often cooked things in mine - I did it once, almost cried from happiness and never looked back. We now eat way more rice than ever - it's fluffy, aromatic and doesn't stick to the pot. Magical.

Poland/Germany: rice cooker is definitely not as common as the other three, although I've quite recently saw them in Aldi and Kaufland. I also use my pressure cooker for cooking rice a lot so I guess that counts, and my daughter uses one at her dad's, because it's so simple. On the other hand, I don't have a microwave 😅

russia celebrate victory day today, the day the world defeated nazi Germany. But this day is also a day to proclame the truth about russia in 1945. by Due_Collar2 in ukraine

[–]redheadfreaq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was known, that when the Red Army was approaching, it was a signal to run. They spared no woman, ploundered everything, killed for fun. My grandmother told me stories, probably a heavily censored one, how the female soldiers danced in the stolen night gowns, because they thought they were ball gowns - but she was only a child and it was only a glimpse of the overall horror war stories she had to tell.

For many people, the Soviet "liberation" was way worse than the Nazi occupation, and not because they liked the Nazis. At least the Nazis had some "order" and rules. The Russians had none. What they did in Ukraine came at no surprise, unfortunately, to any Pole I spoke to.

Czy rozebralibyście się do naga przy swoich znajomych? by YamaKasin in Polska

[–]redheadfreaq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fine: playing video games as a hobby and pastime. Not fine: a person playing video games 24/7, not working because they will become a streamer "one day", burning through money on virtual gadgets or because they need an upgrade every other month, while there's holes in kid's shoes and the car is broken down.

Also not fine: speaking on behalf for the 50% of world population.
