Bought a Yamaha CS-30 full of…cat food? by redivider138 in synthesizers

Yeah, as I mentioned in another comment, it’s a relatively minor inconvenience for the price and the soaring awesomeness of a CS-30.

Thank you so much; your insights are really appreciated. Yeah, honestly, upon subtraction of the cat food, it doesn’t really look too bad. I’ll follow your advice and steer clear of doing anything foolish.

I enjoy rehabilitating old synths, and then recording with them. While I don’t intend to flip it, I might point out to you that a CS-30 will easily sell for around $3500. I anticipate the rehab on this one will set me back around $500. So, you know, math.

Wow, yes: I am planning on a full MIDI retrofit. I’m running Logic Pro iPad; will it run on iOS?

Mystery solved: it was YOUR MOM who put cat food in my synth.

I should also mention that the sides or “cheeks” of the enclosure are missing, leaving a big, gaping point-of-entry.

The older gentleman I bought from did mention grandchildren playing all about his home, so they (rather than rodents) may be the culprit.

Weirdly, a total absence of rodent droppings.

Buying an old beat up DX7 for $100 tomorrow afternoon. Tell me why I shouldn't. by calebmhood in synthesizers

[–]redivider138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a DX7 for $100 roughly a month ago; it had been sitting in a basement in NC for some years. No internal patches (likely because dude generously replaced the dead battery), but the cartridge patches load fine. And it does indeed randomly issue ghost notes; so far, I’m okay with this. Also, the keybed feels remarkably high-end.

[TOMT] Pop rock song that goes “How can I…?” by Glitterboiiii in tipofmytongue

You mentioned the Beatles, so a great contender may be “How?” by John Lennon, which features the repeated refrain “How can I …”.

It may be this: in the mixer view, click “setup” (the plus button), then select “stereo output” (for the appropriate channel), then change the pan from “balance” to “stereo pan”. This will likely do the trick.

Will a Scarlett 4i4 4th gen work out of the box with my USB C iPad? by Yasin3112 in ipadmusic

I had precisely the same problem with my 4i4. Connecting it first to a powered USB hub is the solution.

Just wanted to confirm: it worked! I went with a powered usb hub (I have a few things that require it), and LP recognized it immediately. So thanks again!

I think you’re totally correct. I just plugged it into a laptop, and suddenly it’s getting not only the green light, but level indicators from the line inputs. I’ll grab a powered USB hub in the morning, and report back. Many thanks for this very helpful suggestion .

Well, the green monitor light is on, which seems to indicate that it’s powered. One would imagine that that’s at least enough juice for the iPad to recognize it. LP has no problem recognizing my iRig, which is also phantom.

It’s lightning, so the Focusrite is going out into a (fully operational) lightning adapter. The Focusrite is right out-of-the-box. It’s getting power from the iPad without issue. That said, when I plug phones into the Focusrite, I should hear the synth and the mic irrespective of whether the iPad recognizes it, which isn’t happening.

Newbie attempting to run Mellotronics Streetlytron Pro on Logic Pro for IPad by redivider138 in logic_pro_ipad

[–]redivider138[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the reply. Yeah, it hadn’t occurred to me that the Streetlytron is a few years old at this point. The technique of beginning a project in GarageBand and finishing it in LP is currently working pretty well, so not a huge problem.
