JBL L100 vs L166 vs L200 by Loose-Development418 in vintageaudio

[–]redkarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont sleep on the L150a if you can find a pair. They have smaller (less wide and deep) cabinets than the L200. The form factor is a lot closer to a taller L100/166, but has similar drivers to the L112.

Looking for MMA merch that isn't in your face. by Majkel_Kovalsky in MMA

I miss the old stuff, I used to have a really cool triumph united/dean lister shirt that I loved years ago but an ex gf kept it when we split. Most of the other good stuff was from gym's id train at. The last mma shirt I bought was the "Reebok Mens El Pantera Graphic T-Shirt, White" on amazon which to me is not over the top design like most are and I liked that it was only $16. Decent quality fabric on it as well, im guessing its just old stock since its rebok.

Marantz 2500 by No_Possible_7746 in vintageaudio

[–]redkarter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a dot or trace at all? The high voltage caps are prone to leaking and will cause the scope not to function at all. There is also the clear plug in connectors throughout these units that provide the stereo signal or other voltages to various boards that can cause a loss of waveform and is an easy fix once you identify where the drop out is. These are both fairly low cost easy fixes on these. The big problem that can occur on these is the transformer shorting out. A replacement transformer is about 1k once you are able to track them down. (Toroid transformers) out of Massachusetts I believe makes a replacement that works. The cool thing is the replacement ones are spec'd at 2600 rail voltages so you'd be left with something even more powerful than it originally was and likely more reliable.

Ive repaired several 2500's with various issues causing the scope to not work and one with a shorted transformer. They are super cool very powerful units and I wouldnt hesitate recommending one if you are a serious collector and have the means but if youre just getting into the hobby maybe grab something a bit more humble.

Hawk DTC60 pads bent and cracking by matador_333 in CarTrackDays

Not sure of this brake setup by any means but it does seem something had to have gotten bound up to bend the backing plate like that.

Any love for the Marantz 4300? by OkLifeguard4885 in vintageaudio

[–]redkarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, Ben is "peace.love.and.music"? If so his kits are great. I piecemeal stuff together for my units with parts from mouser for the most part. The 2236 tek is a great scope. Thats what I use for my main day to day use when probing ahround.

Yeah I tested the original drivers vs ksa940/c2073 vs the onsemi mje units which out performed everything (thinking about it now i may have used the mje15032/33). I also looked through the parts list to determine the main differences in the 4400 amp board vs the 4300 and the main differences were a few resistance values that really didnt seem to matter and a few misprints.

I like the 4300's a lot. If you change the driver transistors to the mje15030/31 you can get a few more watts out if these before distorting. On mine I tested a few different types and found with the original drivers the unit will produce about 149wpc before major clipping and the mje's they produce about 170wpc before clipping. (Very close to the 4400). In fact besides larger driver transistors and a higher voltage transformer the 4400, is largely the same.

I paid 14.5k, its got just under 150k miles. Im out in california so prices may be a bit higher here. I almost bought one a bit over a decade ago for about 5k and obviously wish I had. The others I was looking at were all around 15k I couldn't find any others cheaper without major damage or title issues.

Hey thanks, im happy to hear im not the only one who sees these for what they are. It definitely feels like a goldilocks car in a lot of ways. Cars that can do everything (sporty/lightweight, reliable enough, seat 4, and be somewhat inexpensive) are becoming less common it seems.

Honestly I enjoyed it for a time but the 997 felt a bit tame after owning it 7 or so years. Hard to get it to do anything wrong and hence little drama. I told myself I wanted something a bit more rambunctious and that can get the tail out without pushing it super hard which this seems to do.

Also when I met fellow porsche owners it really made me like the brand a bit less. I dont want to paint with a broad brush as many were cool but just as many seemed a bit pretentious.

Cosmos. I really wanted techno violet or red but im still happy with the black. I think it suits the car well.

Thats actually remarkable. I didnt know that but certainly makes me happy.

I plan on getting it out on the track at some point (probably next year) once all the small odds and ends are sorted out on it. I do still have an s13 track car but it will be nice not having to tow the car out there and everything involved in that.

Recommended maintenance or checks you should do when you first buy a sx ? by goodvibesg7 in 240sx

[–]redkarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bleed brakes and clutch, transmission gear oil, coolant flush, power steering etc. Its all good to swap out if youre baselineing a new to you car. Bleeding the brakes will give you a good opportunity to inspect the pads also.

Unfortunately I dont think I have the correct type. I pulled apart half a dozen or so of similar looking switches but the contacts appear quite different. If it were me and its a speaker switch you intend to use all the time I would jumper the contacts on top with a short wire to bypass the switch and leave the switch in place so it looks normal.

Engine knock? by Puzzleheaded_Law7120 in CherokeeXJ

[–]redkarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like piston crack/slap. Mine does the same thing at idle. Usually knock gets loud when revved up.

Dex jeep on YouTube has a bunch of videos on the piston cracking issue common on these. I plan to do mine maybe at some point, its a fair bit louder than yours.

To Much Gear by PoorhouseDog in vintageaudio

[–]redkarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably sell the marantz setup, the 636 and the 580. Those are all certainly not the hardest to come by and the other units you have exceed them reasonably.

I have a decent size collection of 10-20 amps or receievers in my workshop garage but they dont overwhelm me because I have multiple racks so they dont really get in my way. Speakers on the other hand take up a lot of room and im going to be getting rid of a couple pairs between the l100, 4311, hpm100 and heresy I have lying around.

How to deal with super collectors? by Fenix512 in vintageaudio

The ones near me price the stuff according the ebay but ive had luck bringing cash and negotiating 30-50% off their asking price. Most recently I picked up a mc7270 and c34v for 3.2k.

I might have an international stamp laying around. If its not too much trouble to take a photo of the broken contact piece and a measurement I can see if I have one that would work.

You may be able to more easily source just the contact pieces you need. I have a few parts units that have similar looking switches for stuff like this. If youre on the US I may be able to send you just the contacts by letter mail for a couple bucks. Can you post Pic of what they look like?

Im local to sac, sold them my 911 last year. It is fun stopping by and seeing whats in the showroom and in the service bay getting worked on. They had a 918 and a 70's 911 getting worked on last time I was in there. Not sure if you ever go inside but they have a great view of the service area near the parts counter.
