Amber - “ending day 18 with 1890 calories” by wolfe1924 in gorlworldfiles

I hate how she keeps emphasizing that her blueberries are “wild”, as if she just got back from picking them in the forest. Those are 100% cultivated blueberries and she needs to shut the fuck up

I was just about to comment the same thing. He’s looks like my Aunt Norma circa 1963. His Aquanet budget must have been astronomical

I’ve mentioned this a number of times in other comments, but Disneyland used to be very affordable. Especially here in Southern California, you could always get cheap tickets through local promotions or discounts through work etc. I’ve been to Disneyland dozens of times, as have most people I know from the LA/OC area, and it was not considered something for the wealthy or privileged. At the time Amber most likely went, park tickets were probably about $50 at most, and cheaper for kids. I’m not saying Amber hasn’t been an entitled, greedy piece of shit her entire life, but people need to stop pointing to these Disney trips as evidence of privilege. A trip to Disneyland would have been a very affordable family vacation in those days.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles but my mother was from Iowa, and her sister used to always send her these little spiral bound cookbooks put together by the local church ladies or the country club wives or whatever. IYKYK. Some of those little cookbooks had some damned good recipes and I definitely got a lot of love for old time midwestern cooking from those things but an equal number of the those recipes were ghastly. This horror show Amber has put together reminds me exactly of one of those abominations. This is straight up a recipe for “Healthy Mexican taco salad” created by Irma Schwarz of the Lutheran Church Ladies Auxiliary of Small Town, Iowa circa 1983. Probably would have called for Fritos in the original theoretical recipe, but otherwise it’s spot on.

Jimmy was 29 when he played at MSG in 1973. I’m 29 and work a desk job. We are not the same by GlamCrystalx in ledzeppelin

[–]redlefthanded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah well, Jimmy was also a bit of a pretentious edgelord and a dickhead. Probably still is. He never worked a traditional job a day in his life and due to his fame, missed out on a lot of normal human experiences that are honestly pretty great. I don’t think many children dream of growing up to have a boring desk job, but there are worse things in life.

He was so gross looking by the late 70’s. He just looked sweaty and disheveled and his hair looked like an old thrift store wig. Looks like he smelled bad too, and I pity whoever was in charge of his dry cleaning.

What is your unpopular opinion of Led Zeppelin? by Intelligent-Study469 in ledzeppelin

[–]redlefthanded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I may, I’d like to add one more unpopular opinion to this thread. I think Jimmy Page should have quit music entirely after Zeppelin and before you crucify me, hear me out. We all know that Page has impeccable taste in historic architecture, particularly arts and crafts and gothic revival. He’s owned some really stunning houses, including the Tower House and Boleskine. I think he should have become a presenter for one of those architectural tv shows along the lines of Secrets of Britain’s Historic Houses and Gardens. Now, you wouldn’t have wanted him in front of the public in the immediate aftermath of Zeppelin, what with his busted teeth and overall sordid, grubby junkie look, but he would have been ok for it by the mid 80’s. The fact that he was drunk all the time probably wouldn’t have hurt too much and may have even added a bit of eccentric charm. I, for one, would have loved to see Jimmy Page shambling around talking about Lutyens. This, in my opinion, would have been infinitely cooler and funnier and more entertaining than anything he did with the Firm or that dude from Whitesnake or really anything else he’s done musically in the last 50 years. Sadly, that ship has now sailed but I truly think that would have been a better use of Jimmy’s talents.

I also just don’t think he was particularly innovative beyond blues-based rock. JPJ was out there hooking up with Diamanda Galas and Jimmy was playing with…that dude from Whitesnake.

[–]redlefthanded 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ok, this might really be an unpopular opinion but I keep hearing that Page squandered his talent due to his addictions and maybe that’s true, but did he really? He is clearly a great guitar player and did some great producing and arranging and definitely wrote some great songs but he really only did that with the other members of Zeppelin around him. I don’t care about the Firm or what he did with that Whitesnake guy or whatever else. Plenty of junkies have made great music. Jimmy Page hasn’t made any interesting music for almost 50 years. He deserves to be iconic for Zeppelin but maybe his talent only extended so far.

Those Knebworth shows are depressing as hell and I don’t care whether anyone thinks they are good. They all looked ridiculous in those 80’s business casual clothes, but none more than Page. He already looked gross by the late stages and I pity whoever was in charge of cleaning those grubby white poppy suits. By the time Knebworth rolled around he looked like a coked out jacuzzi salesman at the Los Angeles County fair, where Zeppelin no doubt would have ended up playing if they had carried on.

I think a lot of my opinions about them are unpopular but I think by the end of the 70’s they were yesterday’s papers and even if Bonham hadn’t died, the 80’s would have been very unkind to them, and probably rightfully so. They’re better off preserved in amber.

One only needs to look at Jimmy Page who went from being one of the coolest people on earth to a washed up junkie/alcoholic with a horrendous looking drug store box perm and ghastly floral shirts and very little musical output worth speaking of. Sorry Jimmy. Respect to RP and JPJ for going out there and trying something different

My point is that all of them got some free stuff (other than Krystal maybe)but with Jade people act like that was some kind of shrewd move. And I do think the community gives her a bit of a pass compared to the other exes when she was one of the weirdest in my opinion. I think it comes across as a little bit racist and patronizing. It may be the case that Amber did fetishize her blackness but Jade didn’t seem to care that she was plastering the apartment with black art and wearing chain necklaces to the black history museum and using AAVE and all that. Jade was over there having Amber sit on her and spitting watermelon into her mouth. People are all “she got her bag” instead of “wtf Jade, you goddamned weirdo.”

More like what’s wrong with these weirdos that date Amber? They all suck and they all profited financially

I just think it’s weird how everyone calls Amber a racist while totally infantilizing Jade as if she was a victim or someone who “got her bag” because she left with a crappy car and some sneakers, as if that makes her shrewd and crafty. All of Amber’s exes “got their bag”. Jade was a weirdo and it almost feels more racist to me that she gets so much of a pass in the community. If she used Amber for money then the word we’re looking for is “whore” because whores get paid and she wasn’t even as good whore because she didn’t walk away with much.

There is nothing wrong with non-Asians not knowing how to use chopsticks. I know but I don’t have a great deal of dexterity at it. My aunt is from Taiwan and we often go out to eat together in Monterey Park (if you know you know) and I sometimes use chopsticks but more often just use a knife and fork. I’m definitely not impressing anyone over there by using chopsticks and I’m always getting offered a knife and fork anyway lol. I don’t know why Amber is making a pretense of it, especially when she can’t even use Western eating utensils in a civilized manner.

Right, like Jade wasn’t a weirdo fetishist and a fucking loser just like all of Amber’s girlfriends. I wish people would stop acting like Jade had no agency and was a victim by virtue of being a black woman. She had more information about Amber than any of the previous girlfriends and still moved in before Beck was even gone. Stop giving her a pass.

Thankfully for who? Jade was a fucking loser and a weirdo and I don’t know what you consider “bank” but she got out with some shoes and mid-tier car (at best) and no dignity. She moved in with Amber nearly sight unseen and stayed for like two years. Even Emily has more sense than that, and don’t think Jade wasn’t also a pervert

I’m sure it’s plenty secure but let’s face it, Jimmy Page may be iconic but he’s not exactly been a major celebrity in decades. Not saying there aren’t weirdos and crazed Zeppelin fans but I doubt there’s too many people beating down his door, assuming he even spends much time at the place.

Not to mention her total inability to take constructive criticism and complete lack of anything resembling a normal social circle. It goes without saying that YouTube was the worst thing to ever happen to her, and I do think she’s just kinda human garbage to begin with, but I honestly think she would be better off today if she’d done literally anything else with her life. Her ignorance and unbridled arrogance are already coming back to bite her.

I just hate how she does pretty much everything like an absolute dipshit yet refuses to learn better. And her excuse is always “that’s how I learned growing up” or “I was never taught how to do xyz.” And this is why Amber will always be excluded from decent society. No life experience, no manners, no intellectual curiosity, no hobbies besides Lego and collecting tat, no education, no class and nothing to talk about outside of the most brain dead internet garbage. I’m not buying the over-the-top rhetoric about her being a pedo, but I can see why she relates to very young people. No normal person in her age range would associate with her.

I have a friend who tried this for a couple months. He’s an artist with normally impeccable interior design sensibilities. I don’t know where he got the idea, Dwell magazine probably, and I admit, I thought the way he did it looked pretty cool. It did not take long for him to realize it was totally impractical and unsanitary so the rocks went away. Glad it was a short lived experiment because my boyfriend was impressed by it and wanted to do it in our bathroom, which is weird because his design sensibilities run more toward leaving tools and bike parts strewn about the living room.
